Anemia is a condition that is almost always found in pregnancy. Although a program of Fe tablets has been introduced during pregnancy, the prevalence of anemia during pregnancy is still high. This situation maybe caused by another risk factor of anemia such as Thalassemia. This study was aimed to investigate the presence of carrier Thalassemia in pregnant women at the Puskesmas Kertapati, Palembang, South Sumatera using erythrocyte indices. This was a cross-sectional study with a sample size of 68 subjects, taken by purposive sampling technique. Hemoglobin level of all subjects was measured by Easy touch GCHb and confirmed by Sysmex K21. Differences of hemoglobin between Easy Touch GCHb and Sysmex K21 were analyzed by impaired t-test used SPSS program. Other data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. The mean hemoglobin levels in subjects were 10.7 g/dl. There were 68 subjects have anemia according to Easy Touch GCHb  but only 30 subjects that confirmed positive anemia by Sysmex KX 21. T-test result gavep value <0.05 that isconsidered there was a statistically significant difference between Easy Touch GCHb and Sysmex KX 21 results(p=0.001). Calculations using the England-Fraser index, Mentzer, Sirdah, and Srivastava indicate that none of the research subjects had thalassemia carrier status.

Abstract Introduction This cross-sectional study aimed to associate the normative cephalometric results of mandibular retrognathism treatment with patient perception on the esthetic improvement of facial profile. Objective this cross-sectional study aimed to associate the normative cephalometric results of mandibular retrognathism treatment with patient perception on the esthetic improvement of facial profile. Material and method The normative cephalometric results were obtained from lateral cephalometric radiographs of a sample of 24 Class II malocclusion patients in the pubertal growth spurt. Such patients were treated with a mandibular advancement device and evaluated by comparing pre- and post-treatment variables. The same radiographs were used to produce standardized black silhouettes that were randomly arranged. Patients were instructed to choose their preferred profile and indicate the changes perceived using a 7-point Likert scale. The data were compared with cephalometric results using a mixed-model methodology for time-repeated measures, Student’s t-test, and t-test for heterogeneous variances, at 5% significance level. Result A rate of 75% of patients preferred post-treatment silhouettes and changes were perceived regardless of the choice of either pre- or post-treatment profile. There was no significant difference between the cephalometric variables of the tracings that produced the silhouettes considered better or worse after the evaluation. Conclusion There was no association between the cephalometric results after treatment and the perception of esthetic improvement by patients treated for mandibular retrognathia.

Preliminary : Endothelial cells are a single layer that lines the entire vascular system. Endothelial dysfunction can be triggered by several main things, namely physical stress, oxidative stress and irritant substances. Obesity triggers an inflammatory process and metabolic disorders that will lead to increased oxidative stress. Long-term oxidative stress will cause damage to cells and tissues and trigger degenerative diseases. Damage to endothelial cells is expected to be detected by examining Von Willenbrand levels so that it can prevent complications of vascular disorders early. Method: This research is descriptive with cross sectional design. Carried out from March to October 2018 on the USU Campus. The first examination was done to measure body weight and height to determine body mass index, then performed lipid profile and blood sugar levels (KGD) in the sample, then examined von Willenbrand factor levels carried out in the integrated laboratory of USU FK using the method ELISA in both the sample group and the control group. The research subjects were adolescents aged 17-25 years with BMI> 25 kg / m2Data analysis was carried out using the T-Test statistical program, comparing two groups. Result: Of the 40 obese subjects found Von Wilenbrand level values The lowest factor was 1.78 IU / ml and the highest was 35.60 IU / ml. Whereas in 40 non-obese subjects Von Wilenbrand grade values were the lowest factor of 2.01 IU / ml and the highest was 45.10 IU / ml. This difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.661).Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the levels of Von Wilenbrand Factors in obese subjects with non-obese subjectsKey Words: Obesity, endothelial cells, Von Wilenbrand Factors

This research aimed to analyse the feasibility of the use of maquette and the effectiveness of maquette in improving students’ critical thinking ability. The research model employed was the development research model developed by Borg & Gall. The research subjects were third graders. The testing was divided into preliminary field testing, main field testing, and operational field testing. The analysis of the medium feasibility was based on the assessment by media experts, the assessment by subject matter experts, students’ response, and teacher’s response. The analysis of maquette effectiveness was carried out using a t-test (two independent samples) to figure out the difference and gain score of the experimental class for the purpose of identifying the improvement after the use of maquette. In the feasibility analysis, a score of 88 in the category “feasible” was gained from the assessment by a media expert and a score of 85 in the category “highly feasible” was gained from the assessment by a subject matter expert. From the preliminary field testing, scores of 60.5 and 65 in the category “highly feasible” were gained for the students’ response and teacher’s response, respectively. Meanwhile, from the main field testing, scores of 56.1 and 66.5 in the category “highly feasible” were gained for the students’ response and teacher’s response to the maquette use, respectively. The t-test results show a significant value in the critical thinking, namely.000 <.05, indicating a significant difference between the control class and the experimental class. The gain score was 0.5 and fell into the “moderate” category. Thus, it can be concluded that maquette is effective in improving critical thinking ability.

Circular frames are a successful way of treating difficult fractures and non-unions. At our institution (CSC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, our method differs from developed healthcare systems in that we do not use x-ray to site the frames. A retrospective cohort study was performed between CSC and a UK LRS unit. Demographics, diagnosis, frame type, pre- and post-op deformity, proximal and distal construct alignment comparative to the tibia, and time to union or failure. 70 patients in total were identified and were randomly selected from a hospital in UK. Demographics & deformity were similar and failed to reach significant difference on testing: union rate 70% v. 82%, time to union 9.8 v. 8.5 months, and radiation exposure mean 0 v. 74 cGy/cm2 (range 6.4–326.7). These are startlingly homogenous results considering the differing resources available. We believe that ring fixators are a viable treatment method in austere environments where image intensifiers are unavailable, and demand no unnecessary radiation exposure.

Objective: To Analyze the association between prevalence of fatigue referred by physical therapists and their occupational exposure to radiation emitted by therapeutic microwave diathermy equipment. Methods: A Cross-sectional study conducted in 193 physical therapists from four cities of the west of Paraná State, Brazil. A specified structured web questionnaire was applied for collecting data about microwave diathermy exposition and potential confounders, plus the Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue (MAF). Statistical analysis included logistic regression and Student's t-test. Results: The prevalence of fatigue in the category exposed to microwave diathermy was higher (15.0%) than in non-exposed (2.9%). On multivariate logistic regression, a significant independent association between exposure to microwave diathermy and prevalence of fatigue was observed (odds ratio 4.93; 95% confidence interval 1.04 - 23.25; p = 0.04). The Student's t-test showed significant difference between the number of hours exposed to diathermy microwave, being 3,839.1 within physical therapists who referred fatigue and 497.6 within others (p = 0.004). Conclusion: The results demonstrate a significant and independent association between occupational exposure of physical therapists to radiation of microwave diathermy and prevalence of fatigue. Therefore, occupational safety guidelines aimed at these professionals as a prevention of possible adverse effects, as well as the replication of this study are suggested.

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Indonesia is a “re-emerging infectious disease”. DHF can be prevented by vector control. Human behavior is very influential on dengue vector control, namely the cleanliness of the house and activities. In 2017, DHF cases in Indonesia were 59,047 cases. In North Sumatra Province, there were 5,327 cases, in Medan City as many as 1216 cases, with Medan Deli District as the sub-district with the most cases, with 100 cases. Objective: This study aims to see the improvement of mother's behavior by using the roleplay method and simulation games. Methods: The research is a quasi-experimental non-equivalent group design. The target population is mothers who live in Medan Deli District. The selection of research subjects by purposive sampling, with the number of subjects in each group is 15 people. This study uses the method of role play and games as a comparison method, with a questionnaire as a measuring tool. Paired t-test to see the increase in the mean of each group, and unpaired t-test to see the difference in the mean value. Results: The results of the paired t-test data analysis found that these two methods showed significant results, with p values of 0.000 and 0.001 with a mean increase in the role play method of 1.40 and the game method of 1.53. The unpaired t-test was found to have a significant difference between the average post-test scores between the role play method and the game method, the mean post-test score for the role-play method was found to be lower than the post-test score for the game method. Conclusions: Counseling using the role play method and games provides significant results in increasing maternal behavior about DHF. The game method shows a greater average increase than the role play method.

Background: Health care services are costly and complex and provide facilities that significantly affect the economy and quality of life of individuals. In this study, we determined the gap between patients’ expectations and perceptions of hospital service quality to provide reference data for creating strategies to improve health care quality. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, five private hospitals in Tehran were selected. Using a simple random sampling method, 110 patients were recruited and voluntarily responded to the standard service quality (SERVQUAL) model questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the K-S test, t-test, and paired t-test using SPSS V. 23. Results: The results showed that among the quality of health care components, the highest mean was related to the responsiveness (M=3.89) and the least was related to the tangible dimension (M=3.11). The lowest average quality gap (perceived service and expected service) was seen in the responsiveness dimension (2.96 and 3.28) and followed by reliability (2.66 and 3.90), tangible (2.53 and 3.91), empathy (1.36, 3.19), and assurance dimensions (2.39 and 4.75). Conclusion: The findings revealed a significant difference between the patients’ perceived and expected services, which indicates that the quality of services as perceived by patients was lower than their expectations. According to the findings, the assurance dimension had the greatest gap. To reduce or eliminate the existing gap, it is suggested that hospitals consider strategic and operational planning to improve hospitalization experience‏, quality of medical services, and hospital resources.
