Amphibian life in nature is an interesting case which can be an ecotourism interest. The life cycle as well as the uniqe behaviours of the amphibi, is an interesting case to support the ecotourism activities. This research intends to determine the richness of amphibian minds, the diversity of amphibian kinds, and the amphibian distribution in order to support the ecotourism activities and to determine the society perception in utilizing the amphibi for the ecotourism activities. A combination of line transect method and Visual Encounter Survey method were used to know the species richness diversity and the distribution. One score one indicator quisioner was used to know the society perception against the amphibi to support ecotourism. The research was conducted in Braja Harjasari Village, East Lampung Regency during March to April 2017. Data analyzing was used a Shannon-wiener and Margalef index. The sosciety perception was analyzed descriptively and showed in a chart. The result showed that the amphibian richness was 0,6 which mean low, the diversity was 1,0 which meant medium, the shannon-wiener and margalef index was 0,9 which mean low community was stable and each kind of the amphibi was distributed equally. The society perception against the amphibi to support the ecotourism activities was mostly positive.

Crab of the genus Uca is one type of crustacean that makes mangroves a habitat to carry out their life cycle in order to remain sustainable. The purpose of this research is to identify the first, the second is to calculate the abundance, species diversity, dominance, and the third is to know the state of the aquatic environment around pH, temperature, salinity and substrate. The method used is the cruising method and the quadratic line transect method. The method of roaming as far as 300 m. While the line transect method is carried out by drawing three transect lines along 28 m. The identification results in Meras waters found 6 species. Based on data analysis using the cruising method, the number of individuals in Meras waters is 383 individuals, while in Molas waters there are 210 individuals. Based on data analysis using the quadratic line transect method, the species abundance index in Meras waters is 6,767 ind/m2, while in Molas waters it is 4,533 ind/m2. The value of H' at two locations is moderate. The value of C in two locations is low.   Keywords: Meras, Molas, Crabs, abundance, species diversity, dominance.

Purulia, the westernmost district of West Bengal, India is least explored with respect to the biological diversity and relatively little information is available to date.  The present study was conducted from February 2017 to January 2018 to document avifaunal diversity in Purulia Town and surroundings.  Sampling was done through the line transect method with photographic documentation and subsequent identification following suitable keys.  Species richness and seasonal abundance were calculated.  Altogether, 115 species of birds belonging to 19 orders and 43 families were recorded during the study period.  Passeriformes was the most dominant order represented by 46 species during the study.  The Shannon-Wiener (H’) value was highest for January (1.564).  A large number of migratory birds visit Purulia every year mostly during winter and it is reflected in the present study.  Diverse foraging habit among the birds was observed during the study period and omnivorous birds (29%) were found in highest number followed by invertivores (26%), carnivores (25%), granivores (8%), herbivores (7%), frugivores (3%), and nectarivores (2%).  The present study is a preliminary effort to document the avifaunal diversity of Purulia and a more extensive systematic study should be carried out to investigate and protect the avifaunal diversity of this region.

Abstract Many methods are used to survey butterfly populations, with line transect and area surveys being prominent. Observers are typically limited to search within 5 or 10 m from the line, while observers are unrestricted in larger specified search regions in area surveys. Although methods differ slightly, the selection is often based on producing defendable data for conservation, maximizing data quality, and minimizing effort. To guide method selection, we compared butterfly surveys using 1) line versus area methods and 2) varying width transects (5 m, 10 m, or unrestricted) using count data from surveys in North Dakota from 2015 to 2018. Between line and area surveys, we detected more individuals with area surveys, even when accounting for effort. However, both methods accumulated new species at similar rates. When comparing transect methodology, we detected nearly 60% more individuals and nine more species when transect width increased from 5 m to unrestricted, despite similar effort across methodology. Overall, we found line surveys slightly less efficient at detecting individuals, but they collected similar species richness to area surveys when accounting for effort. Additionally, line surveys allow the use of unrestricted-width transects with distance sampling procedures, which were more effective at detecting species and individuals while providing a means to correct count data over the same transect length. Methods that reduce effort and accurately depict communities are especially important for conservation when long-term datasets are unavailable.

Density and Flock Size of the Raven (Corvus corax) In the Orawa - Nowy Targ Basin During Non-Breeding Season During the 2002/2003-2004/2005 non-breeding seasons the density of the Raven in the open habitats of the Orawa - Nowy Targ Basin was studied by line transect method. The results were analysed in four periods (autumn, early winter, winter and early spring). The median density of Ravens did not differ significantly between individual periods and was respectively: 3.5, 3.8, 4.8 and 3.8 indiv. / 10 km. Number of birds during particular controls varied from 1.0 to 24.8 indiv. / 10 km. However, while excluding flocks, the median density of single individuals and pairs of the Raven was considerably lower and in subsequent periods reached respectively: 2.2, 2.4, 2.2 and 1.7 indiv. / 10 km. Flock size did not differ significantly between individual periods. Single individuals and, less often, groups of two birds were recorded mostly. Small (3-5 indiv.) and medium (6-15 indiv.) flocks were recorded rarely and large flocks (16 indiv. and above) - only exceptionally. The high density and strong fluctuations of abundance of Ravens were determined by flocks presence, which was probably linked to irregular occurrence of food resources.

Quantification of butterfly diversity and species richness is of prime importance for evaluating the status of protected areas. Permanent line transect counts were used to record species richness and abundance of butterfly communities of different habitat types in Trishna wildlife sanctuary. A total of 1005 individuals representing 59 species in 48 genera belonging to five families were recorded in the present study. Of these, 23 species belonged to the family Nymphalidae and accounted for 38.98% of the total species and 45.20% of the total number of individuals. Mature secondary mixed moist deciduous forest showed the maximum diversity and species richness, while exotic grassland showed minimum diversity and species richness. Out of 59 species, 31 are new records for Tripura state, while 21 are unique species and nine are listed in the threatened category. This study revealed that mature secondary forests are more important for butterfly communities, while exotic grasslands have a negative impact on species composition.

Background: Decreasing of sea cucumber resources on numbers and size of fishing capture in Negeri Porto waters influenced its community structures. Further, water environment steadiness will questionable. For this reason, study was done to analyzed community structures of sea cucumbers include of numbers species found, density, potency, species presence frequency, distribute pattern, ecology index and environment measurement. Method: Research done on February to May, 2008 at Negeri Porto used Line Transect Method. Result: showed there were eight species of sea cucumbers found (potency as much as 12.286 individuals). Bohadschia marmorata got highest in numbers species found, density, potency and species presence frequency. There were three distribute pattern of sea cucumbers found wich are uniform, random and group. Conclusion: Sea cucumbers diversity was in lower, species are closed to compatible. B. marmorata and Holothuria edulis are tends to dominate this water. Environment factors such temperature, pH, salinity, DO, turbidity, current and sediment distribute showed that Porto waters was suitable to sea cucumbers growth.

Abstract : Orangutan is classified as an endangered species. Forest clearance for a variety of purposes and functions over the region led to the limited habitat for orangutans. Orangutans habitat is fragmented into several regions led to the survival of a population of a species depends on habitat conditions. Performing a nest survey is important to give a deeper understanding of the ecology and help determine the best protective management measures. We provide basic data of orangutan density and orangutan nesting characteristics in protected forest area Sibongkaras village. This study was conducted in April 2019 until June 2019 in protected forest area Sibongkaras village, Pakpak Bharat. Tracking begins with observed the presence of a nest based on a purposive sampling method. And data retrieval was done by line transect method. Data analyzed at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sumatera Utara. Our result showed that the orangutan population density was 0.0072 individuals/km2 or 0.72 individuals/ha. The dominant position of the nest is in a position which is a position I nest close to the main stem of the tree with the nest number 13 (43.3%). Generally, the nest is found at an altitude of  >15 meters with a sum of 27 nests (90%).Abstrak : Orangutan diklasifikasikan sebagai spesies yang terancam punah. Penebangan hutan untuk berbagai tujuan dan fungsi di kawasan tersebut menyebabkan terbatasnya habitat orangutan. Habitat orangutan yang terfragmentasi menjadi beberapa wilayah menyebabkan kelangsungan hidup suatu populasi suatu spesies tergantung pada kondisi habitat. Melakukan survei sarang penting untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih dalam tentang ekologi dan membantu menentukan langkah-langkah manajemen perlindungan terbaik. Kami menyediakan data dasar kepadatan orangutan dan karakteristik sarang orangutan di kawasan hutan lindung Desa Sibongkaras. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan April 2019 hingga Juni 2019 di kawasan hutan lindung Desa Sibongkaras, Pakpak Bharat. Pengamatan dimulai dengan mengamati keberadaan sarang berdasarkan metode purposive sampling. Dan pengambilan data dilakukan dengan metode transek garis. Data yang diperoleh di analisis di Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sumatera Utara. Hasil Penelitian kami menunjukkan kepadatan populasi orangutan di 0,0072 individuals/km2 atau 0,72 individu / ha. Posisi sarang yang dominan adalah pada posisi sarang yang berada di posisi paling dekat dengan batang utama, dengan jumlah sarang 13 (43,3%). Umumnya sarang ditemukan di ketinggian > 15 meter dengan jumlah 27 sarang (90%).

A year-long study was conducted at the Kole Wetlands, a Ramsar site in central Kerala to document the diversity of dragonflies and damselflies and understand their seasonality.  Checklist survey method was used to sample adult odonates in 30 randomly chosen locations.  A total of 44 species (30 dragonflies and 14 damselflies) belonging to 33 genera and eight families were recorded in the study area.  Species richness showed a peak in the post-monsoon season and a dip in the summer.  The observations support the value of the Kole Wetlands in providing valuable resources for Odonata.

The accuracy and precision of eight line transect estimators and one strip transect estimator were examined by helicopter aerial survey. Carcasses of feral pigs were counted in an area of treeless floodplain and Eucalyptus woodland. The ratio and Cox's methods, Fourier series, exponential power series, half-normal, exponential polynomial, negative exponential, hermite polynomial and hazard rate estimators gave accurate estimates. Using the survey method described, most estimators were of similar accuracy and precision, but the Fourier series estimator was the most accurate.
