Background/Aims The quality of information technology (IT) services is key to effective healthcare delivery. However, the high aspirations of health ministers for IT services in hospitals may not be aligned with clinicians' perceptions. This study aimed to assess frontline clinicians' perceptions of the quality of IT services in their institutions. Methods The British Orthopaedics Directors Society online forum was used to invite a group of trauma and orthopaedic clinical leads from a range of hospitals to complete a short questionnaire regarding their perceptions of IT service quality in their practice. Results Negative perceptions of IT service quality were found to be common, with 45% of respondents rating their trusts' overall IT quality as poor or very poor. Of these, 13% deemed their trust's IT service quality to be so poor as to put patients at increased risk. Wide disparities were also reported between respondents' ratings of IT infrastructure quality and institutional responsiveness to concerns. Conclusions This small initial evaluation highlights concerning variations in clinicians' perceptions of IT service quality across different trusts. It also suggests the need for further, more detailed assessment and monitoring of IT quality improvement, for which the same questionnaire method may be useful.

More and more enterprises regard Information Technology (IT) as their most valuable property and make full use of IT to maximize the performance of their business operations. As a result, enterprises are attaching more importance to coordinating their IT strategy and enterprise strategy in order to get the most from their IT investment. For the sake of better IT performance and long-term development, firms must adopt a complete strategy for IT governance. In Taiwan, most financial enterprises have not considered IT governance to be a necessity, and those which are implementing IT governance have difficulty explaining, systemically, how it affects IT performance. Based on the five dimensions of IT governance, this study uses the balanced scorecard to measure IT performance and discusses the influence of effective governance on IT performance. The results show that the five dimensions of IT governance (strategic alignment, value delivery, risk management, resource management, and performance measurement) are all positively correlated with IT performance. The results of this study can help Taiwan's financial enterprises set the proper course for IT governance and more clearly understand how it serves to improve IT performance.

Nowadays a growing interest in Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) proves the trends and needs of their implementation in organizations. In order to successfully implement an ITSM project in an organization, it is essential to implement a suitable ITSM solution to support the related processes. The ITSM solution implementation can be conducted either in a big bang or phased manner by module. The present paper intends to offer the analytical means to support decision-making in the implementation sequence of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) solution modules. Since the decision problem of the module sequence involves a myriad of organizational and technical issues, which are vague in essence, we propose the Balanced ScoreCard (BSC) based evaluation criteria for supporting module sequencing decision along with fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) method to be applied. The proposed approach has been applied to a local Iranian company in the field of IT services to implement the acquired ITSM solution; the provided numerical example illustrates the applicability of the approach for the purpose. The priorities for the implementation sequence of the modules are determined in the case study.

Information technology (IT) has become increasingly important to accounting professionals. Education in relevant IT-related topics, however, appears to have lagged workplace demands. Most undergraduate accounting programs require an Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course to fulfill the major program requirements. Because this course is often the only one to address AIS topics, students may tend to view IT as being less important to their career paths. Such attitudes may reduce the quality of course outcomes. A survey of 103 undergraduate AIS students was conducted to assess attitudes along two dimensions: knowledge and skills and interest and enjoyment. Results showed that, for a number of factors, interest and enjoyment was positively associated with knowledge and skills. The level of the two dimensions, however, varied, and students displayed greater interest in traditional accounting than in technology-related courses. Most importantly, attitude towards IT affected success.
