Effect of nutrient management on yields, economics and nutrient content and their uptake of soybean (Glyscine max L.) under rainfed conditions

The field experiments were conducted during kharif2013, 2014 and 2015 at Research Farm of Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Jhabua to study the effect of nutrient management practices on yields, nutrient content and economics of the soybean grown under rainfed condition of Jhabuahill. The experiment laid out in randomized block design with nine nutrient levels viz., T1-control, T2- vermicompost (5t/ha), T3-FYM (10 t/ha), T4-Recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF=20 N: 30 P2O5: 20 K2O kg/ha), T5-50% RDF + Rhizobium + PSB, T6- 50% RDF + 50% vermicompost, T7-50% RDF + 25% vermicompost + Rhizobium + PSB, T8- Rhizobium culture + PSB and T9- 50% vermicompost + Rhizobium + PSB. Results revealed that application of application of 50% RDF + 50% vermicompost(T6) gave significantly highest seed yield (22.62 q/ha), straw yield (23.86 q/ha), biological yield (46.48), gross return (Rs. 69,230/ha), net return (Rs. 49,571/ha), production efficiency (20.56 kg/ha/day) and economic efficiency (450.64 Rs./ha/day) as compared to control. Whereas maximum B:C ratio (3.84) was recorded in 100% RDF followed by vermicompost @ 5 t/ha. Similarly, higher nutrient content (N, P and K) in seed as well as straw and their uptake were recorded under 50% RDF + 50% vermicompost. The highest protein content (41.99%) and protein yield (94,864 kg/ha) was also observed with the application of 50% RDF + 50% vermicompost. Hence, application of 50% RDF + 50% vermicompost better for obtain higher yields, economics and nutrient content and their uptake of soybean under rainfed condition of Jhabuahill of Madhya Pradesh

A field experiment was undertaken to study the effect of nutrient management on rice cv. Puspa (IET-17509) during pre-kharif season of 2013 and 2014. The experiment was conducted at Rice Research Station, Bankura with eleven different nutrient management practices i.e., N1 = N, P2O5, K2O @ 60, 30, 30 kg ha-1 (RDF);N2 = RDF + Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1; N3 = RDF + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 ; N4 = FYM @ 5 t ha-1, N5 = Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 ; N6 = RDF + glyricidia (well decomposed) as green manure @ 3 t ha-1; N7 = RDF + ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 N8 = RDF + borax @ 2 kg ha-1 ; N9 = RDF + Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 + ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 ; N10 = RDF +Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 + borax @ 2 kg ha-1 ; N11 = RDF + Vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 + ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 + borax @ 2 kg ha-1 respectively in randomized block design comprising of three replications. The result of experiment revealed that rice plot fertilized with the combination of NPK @ 60:30:30 + VC + ZnSO4@ 20 kg ha-1 + borax @ 2 kg ha-1 recorded the highest grain yield of 4.45 t ha-1 which was 56.69 % higher (2.84 t ha-1) than the FYM treated plot. Organic substitution by FYM and vermicompost (VC) had failed to register the significant impact on growth, yield and nutrient uptake. Nutrient uptake and residual nutrient status was also highest in NPK @ 60:30:30 kg ha-1 + VC @ 2.5 t ha-1 + ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1+ borax @ 2 kg ha-1 fertilized plot.

Field experiments were conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Thirupathisaram, Tamil Nadu during <italic>kharif</italic> and <italic>rabi</italic> seasons of 2011-12 to evaluate the different establishment techniques on growth and yield of rice. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with four replications. The treatment structure comprises of wet seeding, drum seeding, random transplanting, line planting, SRI square planting and SRI machine planting. Among the different establishment techniques, SRI machine planting significantly influenced the growth and yield characters and yield and which was on par with SRI square planting. The maximum plant height, number of tillers hill<sup>−1</sup>, LAI, dry matter production, number of panicles m<sup>−2</sup>, number of grains panicle<sup>−1</sup>, panicle length, grain yield and straw yield were recorded under SRI machine planting during <italic>kharif</italic> and <italic>rabi</italic>. The lowest grain yield and straw yield were recorded under wet seeding during both <italic>kharif</italic> and <italic>rabi</italic>.

Field experiments were conducted to study the effect of establishment techniques on yield and economics of red gram [Cajanus cajan (L.)] under irrigated condition at Regional Research Station, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Paiyur - 635 112,Tamil Nadu, India during Kharif season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 respectively in randomized block design with four replications. The treatments are line sowing/dibbling of seeds, sowing behind the country plough, sowing in polybag and transplanting at 25 and 40 DAS, sowing in portrays and transplanting in 25 and 40 DAS. The redgram variety LRG 41 was used for study. The results revealed that, dibbling of seeds in lines recorded higher grain yield of 2351 kg ha-1, net income of Rs.99495/- and B:C ratio of 3.39. Thus, dibbling of seeds in lines recorded 6% higher over sowing in poly bag and transplanting at 25 DAS and 27% higher yield over sowing behind the country plough. Considering yield and economics, line sowing seems to better option for the farmers followed by sowing in polybags and transplanted in 25 DAS. Under transplanted situation, transplanting of seedlings at 30 DAS was more suitable where the monsoon was delayed for 30 to 45 days under rainfed situation.

Inorganic fertilizers alone cannot sustain high levels of productivity. It may cause deterioration of soil environment leading to low productivity. An investigation was carried out to develop integrated nutrient management technology for fruit yield of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The experiment was conducted at Horticulture Research Division, Nepal Agricultural Research Council Khumaltar, Lalitpur during 2010/011. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications and having seven treatments viz., Control (100% NPK), Azotobacter + 25% N + PK, Azotobacter + 50% N + PK, Azotobacter + 75% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 25% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 50% N + PK, Azotobacter + FYM + 75% N + PK. Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative (SSI) under Sub Surface Drip Irrigation (SSDI) is gaining momentum among the farmers because of more output with less input. Even though the benefits of SSI under SSDI are realized by farmers, development of optimal irrigation and fertigation schedule is need of the hour for Western Agro-climatic zone of Tamil Nadu. Field trials were carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar from 2014 to 2017 to develop an optimal irrigation and fertigation schedule for SSI for Western Agro-climatic zone. The experiment was taken in a randomized block design with three replications. The experiment consisted of eight treatments of which six treatments comprised of SSDI with three irrigation regimes of 100, 80 and 60 percent pan evaporation and two fertigation levels of 100 and 75 percent of recommended N & K and two treatments in surface drip irrigation (SDI) with 100 percent pan evaporation (PE) + 100 percent RD and 100 percent PE + 75 percent RD of N&K through fertigation. The results of this study revealed that SSDI with 60 per cent PE + 100 per cent RD of N&K through fertigation recorded lower water use (1004 mm) and higher WUE (113 kg/ha-mm). However, significantly higher and comparable yield of sugarcane (148 t/ha) was recorded in SSDI with 100 per cent PE + 100 per cent RD of N&K through fertigation and surface drip irrigation with 100 per cent PE + 100 per cent RD of N&K through fertigation. The net return (Rs. 2,09,405 per ha) and B:C ratio (2.6) was higher in SSDI with 100per cent PE + 100 per cent RD of N&K through fertigation treatment.

Present field experiment was conducted at farmer’s field in Ringondiya village, Madhya Pradesh during rabi season 2018-19 to study the effect of integrated nutrient management practices on performance of chickpea, basic soil properties and nutrient availability. The performance of chickpea (cv. JG-322) was evaluated under seven treatments viz., T1-Control, T2-100% N:P:K (20:50:20), T3-50% N:P:K + FYM @5 t ha-1, T4-50% N:P:K + vermicomposting @2 t ha-1, T5-50% N:P:K + PSB @4 kg ha-1, T6-50% N:P:K + FYM @5 t ha-1 + PSB @4 kg ha-1 and T7-50% N:P:K + vermicomposting @2 t ha-1 +PSB @4 kg ha-1 replicated thrice in a randomized block design. The grain yield, straw yield and harvest index of chickpea were determined at harvest. Similarly, the soil pH, electrical conductivity, soil organic carbon and soil available nutrients (N, P and K) were also determined in post harvest soil samples. The results revealed that the integrated nutrient management practice significantly improved the performance of chickpea. The soil organic carbon and available nutrients were also found increased under INM practices.

The field experiments were conducted in farmer's field at five locations each of kole lands to study the effect of Magnesium (Mg) on yield and soil and plant nutrient status of rice during 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The treatments comprised of different levels of Mg viz; 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 kg Magnesium sulphate(MgSO4)/ha along with control. Observations on growth characters yield attributes, yield and soil and plant nutrient status were recorded. The results revealed that application of 100 kg MgSO4 / ha recorded the maximum number of panicles/m2 (419.13), number of grains/panicle (109.36), thousand grain weight (28.78 g), grain (9.27 t/ha) and straw yield (9.04 t/ha) of rice. The results of pooled data on plant and soil nutrient status revealed that application of magnesium had a positive effect on nutrient content and availability of nutrients in soil. A significant positive correlation was also noticed between Mg application, yield attributes, yield and nutrient contents. The study concluded that application of 100 kg MgSO4 / ha was found to be optimum for correcting the deficiency in Mg deficient areas of kole lands under below sea level farming.

The Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of fertility management on growth, yield attributes and yield of pearlmillet in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with ten treatments and four replications during summer, 2019 at Anand, Gujarat. The experiment comprises of different nutrient management practices including 100% and 75% RDF with 15 t and 10 t FYM along with Bio NP consortia. A significant higher growth and yield parameters enhancement with the application of 100% RDF + 15 t FYM ha-1 + Bio NP Consortia was recorded in plant height, number of tillers, length of ear head, protein content and biological yield. The treatment T5 produced maximum (91.5 q ha-1) biological yield and statistically it was on par with T9 and T5. However, the lowest biomass production (73.0 q ha-1) was reported in treatment T1. Results of different nutrient management practices on days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, ear head girth and test weight were found non-significant.  Protein content of pearlmillet was increased from 7.5% to 9.06% under different nutrient management practices.

A field experiment was conducted comprising eighteen advanced lines of mustard in a randomized block design with three replication at Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Hathazari, Chittagong during Rabi season (December 2009 to April 2010) for estimation of divergence among advanced lines of mustard. The genotypes were grouped into four clusters. Cluster I contained the highest number of genotypes (6) and the cluster III contained the lowest (3). The inter-cluster distances in all cases were larger than the intra-cluster distance which indicated that wider diversity was present among the genotypes of distant grouped. The highest intra cluster distance was observed in cluster II and the lowest in I. The highest inter cluster distance was observed between the cluster III and II followed by III and I and the lowest between cluster IV and III. Days to 50% flowering (81.94%), days to maturity (8.24%), plant height (5.82%), branches per plant (1.91%) and siliquae per plant (1.17%) contributed maximum towards the total divergence which suggested that these characters were highly responsible for genetic divergence in the present materials. But the highest cluster means for primary branches per plant and maximum seeds per siliquae with minimum seed yield per plant were obtained from the cluster II. The genotypes from cluster I had dwarf plant along with earliness in days to 50% flowering, days to maturity and maximum number of primary branches per plant. Therefore, the genotypes from cluster I and III could be utilized in the hybridization programme for getting desirable transgressive segregants and high heterotic response due to getting maximum yield along with short duration.   Key words: Multivariate analysis; Divergence; MustardDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjpbg.v23i2.9322 Bangladesh J. Background: Pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa is one of the most obnoxious pest causing grain damage ranging from 10-80% with a monitory loss of US$ 256 million annually. Being an internal feeder, infested pods do not show any external symptoms of damage until the fully grown maggots chew the pod wall, leaving a thin papery membrane intact called as window, through which adults exit from the pod. Several field studies were conducted to determine the efficacy of insecticides for the control of pod fly. However, these findings did not find acceptability and led to partial success. Insecticides that should leave lesser residues and pose lesser environmental threat have become imperative. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of certain new insecticide molecules against pod fly in pigeonpea ecosystem. Methods: Two field experiments were conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Lam, Guntur during Kharif, 2012 and 2013 in a randomized block design (RBD) using pigeonpea cv. ICPL 85063 (Lakshmi) with 17 treatments including untreated control and 3 replications. Two sprays were given at 10 days interval starting from pod initiation stage. At maturity, number of pods showing pod fly damage were recorded and expressed as percentage. Grain yield was recorded and cost–benefit ratio was worked out. Result: Among different insecticides, thiacloprid 21.7 SC, followed by diafenthiuron 50 WP, flubendiamide 480 SC and dimethoate 30 EC were very effective against pod fly with more grain yield and registered highest incremental cost benefit ratio (ICBR). It was further suggested that effective insecticides may be alternated in order to avoid development of resistance to pod fly in pigeonpea.
