Introduction. The 100-years’ history of MICE – MSUCE is also a history of establishment and flourishing of one of the world’s most powerful experimental school of development and application of the photoelasticity method in the investigation of the stress state of civil and special structures. Reliable forecast of the stress state of buildings and structures under static, thermal and dynamic impacts is an indispensable prerequisite of safe operation provision of civil structures during the construction and the operation. The photoelasticity method, allows, along with the analytical methods of the mechanical science, for continual study of the stress state of the object under test, being an experimental method efficiently used both in “standalone” mode and in conjunction with numerical methods. The goal and the objectives hereof: a retrospective development review of the photoelasticity method, in particular, of the contribution of LSR of MICE, and the assessment of the contemporary state of the method in terms of its actuality, novelty and practical significance of mechanical problem solutions, of stress-strain state studies of structures and buildings. Materials and methods. The subject hereof is the polarized light method or the photoelasticity method: development, problematics, solution methods of mechanical problems and studies of structures, applications. Results. The paper describes solution examples of vital problems by the photoelasticity method: stress analysis in the wedge-shaped notch zone of the area boundary, stress state problem under forced deformation in the block-basement contact area, stress state study of underground hydropower plant tunnel with the weir erected by pinpoint blasting. The performed analysis of the photoelasticity method and its contemporary level illustrates the opportunities provided by the method in solving of mechanical problems and in structural studies. Conclusions. Is the experimental school of the photoelasticity method of LSR–MICE – MSUCE really the sunk Atlantis? The development of the experimental mechanics of deformable solid bodies is characterized by progressive proximity of experimental and numerical analysis research methods. The physical modelling, in particular, the polarized light method, allows for obtaining stress-strain state diagrams of structures, or solutions of mechanical problems, feasible for assessment or for calculation result corrections, that is why the polarized light method retains actuality and practical significance. The development of the deformable solid body mechanics determines the significance of the physical modelling, including the polarized light method. The benefit of the polarized light method is the continuity of mechanical problem solutions which is especially important when local areas with specific features of the stress strain behaviour are considered. Modern technologies of material property studies, invention of new materials lead to creation of new mechanical models, for adequacy assessment of which physical modelling methods are required, in particular, the polarized light method.

This study is devoted to the study of relevant works on the history of the Stavropol Cossacks, works in the field of education of the Stavropol Cossacks as an independent Cossack group, trade, cultural and economic ties in the Stavropol Territory, spiritual life, language, culture, traditions and customs of the Stavropol Cossacks. Among modern studies in the history of the Stavropol Cossacks, the following topics stand out: military life and everyday life, folklore and song traditions, the movement for the revival of the Cossacks, as well as the current state and prospects for the development of Cossack organizations. The prospect of the development of pedagogical technologies based on the Cossack traditions of educating young people in Stavropol is highlighted as a separate topical topic. The relevance of the study lies in the need for a private study of the historiography of the regional Cossack group of Stavropol Cossacks in order to expand the scientific and pedagogical tools in the field of «Cossack studies». The practical significance of the study is expressed in the possibility of using the data of the article in the search for supporting material for teaching the "History of the Cossacks" in a higher educational institution (taking into account the regional specifics). The scientific novelty of the research is expressed in a new view of the Stavropol Cossacks as an independent Cossack group formed at the end of the XVIII century. The source base is represented mainly by archival data from the State Archives of the Stavropol Territory, data banks on archaeological, cultural and linguistic expeditions, sources of personal origin, the works of contemporary historians and directly the works of historians, whose studies formed the basis of the historiography of the history of the Stavropol Cossacks. The research methodology is based on the principles of historiographic comparative studies and comparative analysis of sources. Within the framework of the sociocultural approach, we rely on the following methods. Special-historical: the narrative method, the historical-comparative method, the historical-systemic method, the retrospective method. Sociological: document analysis, method of generalizing characteristics, method of ideal types. Culturological: comparative method, cultural-systemic method. Pedagogical: pedagogical interviewing, a method of studying and generalizing pedagogical experience.

Scarab beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) can exhibit striking colours produced by pigments and/or nanostructures. The latter include helicoidal (Bouligand) structures that can generate circularly polarized light. These have a cryptic evolutionary history in part because fossil examples are unknown. This suggests either a real biological signal, i.e. that Bouligand structures did not evolve until recently, or a taphonomic signal, i.e. that conditions during the fossilization process were not conducive to their preservation. We address this issue by experimentally degrading circularly polarizing cuticle of modern scarab beetles to test the relative roles of decay, maturation and taxonomy in controlling preservation. The results reveal that Bouligand structures have the potential to survive fossilization, but preservation is controlled by taxonomy and the diagenetic history of specimens. Further, cuticle of specific genus ( Chrysina ) is particularly decay-prone in alkaline conditions; this may relate to the presence of certain compounds, e.g. uric acid, in the cuticle of these taxa.

The article analyzes the three-volume edition «History of kabardino-circassian literature», prepared by a team of literary scholars of the Kabardino-Balkarian Institute for Humanitarian Research, the last volume of which was published recently. The difficult and long-term path of the creation of this scientific ore is traced, the changes that have taken place in the work project are indicated, their objective and subjective reasons are clarified. Initially, it was planned to study only the Kabardian literary process, but in the course of it, the authors added the work of Circassian writers, and then the literature created by the Adygs in the foreign diasporas, which increased the significance of the work. It is indicated that in the «History of kabardino-circassian literature» not all bright creative individuals have separate chapters. It is proposed, in addition to this edition, to write a monograph, where separately consider the work of B. Utizhev, Kh. Beshtokov, K. Duguzhev and poets and writers who have revealed their potential in recent years (there is such a plan in the sector of «Kabardino-Circassian literature» KBIGR. In conclusion the article emphasizes the theoretical and practical significance of the topical work of leading Adygean literary critics.

Purpose Marx’s monetary theory is an important part of Marxist economics and an irreplaceable milestone in the intellectual history of the monetary theory. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the main content of Marx’s monetary theory from three aspects: the source and nature of money, the function of money and the historical significance of money. Design/methodology/approach Moreover, this paper also gives an extended understanding of Marx’s monetary theory from four perspectives: the endogenous credit mechanism of money, the functions of money and demands for money, the financial function of money and the economic and social functions of money. Findings Lastly, the present paper discusses the practical significance of Marx’s monetary theory from three perspectives, namely, the inspection of “Bitcoin” from the nature and function of money, the definition of demands and the division of supplies at the monetary level, and the prevention of systemic financial risks and the focus of financial supervision. Originality/value Marx’s monetary theory is an important part of Marxist economics and an irreplaceable milestone in the intellectual history of the monetary theory. However, for a long time, the contribution of Marx has rarely been mentioned in the intellectual history of monetary theory. Even the book, Political Economy (On Capitalism), has been only summarily concerned with the source and function of money in Marx’s monetary theory, rather than revealing Marx’s outstanding contribution in the monetary theory and the financial connotation of Marx’s monetary theory, and expounding its practical significance.
