This study sought to explore the influence of professional growth opportunities on the job performance of deputy principals of public secondary schools in Lugari Sub-County, Kenya. Adopting the descriptive research design, the study utilised mixed methods approach engaging both questionnaires and interview guide. The focus population for the study included 28 principals, 28 deputy principals and 420 teachers of public secondary schools within Lugari Sub- County. All the 28 principals and 28 deputy principals were purposively sampled for study whereas, 200 teachers were identified for study by simple random sampling technique. A pilot test-retest study was conducted in three public secondary schools from nearby Uasin Gishu County and a reliable Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.79 and 0.81 was obtained for the deputy principal response questionnaire and teacher response questionnaire, respectively. Supervisors and researchers from Mount Kenya University School of education were engaged to ascertain the validity of the research instruments and necessary adjustments effected on the tools before use. The questionnaires gathered quantitative data from teachers and deputy principals whilst the interview guide assembled qualitative data from the principals. The statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0 was used for the analysis of quantitative data yielding frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviation. Qualitative data were analysed thematically based on the objectives and presented along with the quantitative data. The findings established that schools in Lugari Sub County hardly support deputy principals for in-service training, the majority of deputy principals perceived unfairness in promotion procedures and that the position of deputy principal did not adequately prepare deputy principals for principal-ship. The study recommends that deputy principals need to be supported by the school management to collaborate and improve their requisite skills to discharge their duties effectively.

The purpose of this study was to explore the buffering role of opportunities for professional development within the frame of the indirect relationship between workplace age discrimination (as a job demand) and job performance on a sample of N = 325 Italian teachers. Results of moderated mediation analysis indicated that emotional exhaustion mediates the relationship between workplace age discrimination and impaired job performance. Furthermore, the relationship between workplace age discrimination and performance through the mediation of emotional exhaustion became stronger at lower levels of professional development. Although professional development is recognized as a crucial job resource, this study sheds light on its protective role among teachers dealing with discrimination caused by their age. Fostering of professional development could prevent teachers from feeling emotionally exhausted and, in turn, from the occurrence of impaired performance.

Formal Education in the 21st Century is focused on the development of learners’ skills and competencies essential to navigate the complexities and uncertainties of the age. Effective acquisition of these skills in the school is predicated on adequate provision of technological resources, adequate school infrastructure and continuous professional development of teachers for innovative instructional delivery. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the extent to which infrastructural provisions and continuous professional development of teachers in secondary schools in Nigeria support the development and acquisition of 21st Century teaching and learning skills. The study which adopted the impact of school infrastructure on learning by Barrett et al.as a conceptual framework, used descriptive survey design. Two self-constructed instruments were used to collect data from (20) selected secondary schools, (50) teachers and (200) students. Data were analysed using frequency count, percentage score, mean, and standard deviation. Findings showed that the schools visited lack infrastructural provisions, the teachers do not have the requisite skills and the students are not aware of any other means of learning different from the conventional styles offered by their teachers. Therefore, this study offered a two-prong approach of immediate provision of technological infrastructure for schools and the development of teachers’ professional skills through focused training targeted at enhancing their technological instructional delivery skills.

The current study examines the relationship between the style of management and the school climate and the persistence in secondary schools in Arab society. Although studies have been carried out in Israel and abroad, few have focused on examining the subject in Arab society. The current study will focus on key issues concerning the impact of the ethical climate and managerial style on this phenomenon.      The main research question in the current study is whether there is a link between the school ethical climate and management style and the persistence of students in secondary schools in Arab society.      The findings of the study show that schools with a more caring ethical climate have a higher persistence rate and accordingly, the lower the caring ethical climate, the lower the percentage of persistence in school. It also indicates that the more focused the style on human relations, the more caringf the climate will be, and the more mission-focused the style, the more instrumental the ethical climate will be. The findings also indicate that there is a positive relationship between a management style focused on human relations and persistence.      The conclusion of the main study indicates a positive relationship between a management style focused on human relations and a caring climate and the persistence of secondary school students in Arab society. A management style based on positive, humanitarian relationships focused on cooperation between principals and teachers allows for similar relationships between teachers among themselves. patterns of cooperation and mutual support are developed instead of competition and striving against each other, allowing for the creation of a more caring ethical climate.

INTRODUCTION: Continuous Professional Development (CPD) offers nurses the opportunity to improve their knowledge, skills, and also improve their performance in the healthcare setting. The purpose of the study was to examine if there is a relationship between CPD and job performance and to find if there is a significant difference of job performance when sex, age, and clinical experience are considered.  METHOD: Correlational research design was utilized; 164 registered nurses were conveniently sampled from Ghana. The study utilized a self-constructed survey questionnaire for continuous professional development while Six Dimension Scale of Nursing Performance (SDNS) developed by Schwirian (1978) was adopted and modified to measure the job performance of nurses. The statistical treatments used were Pearson Correlation, t-test, and ANOVA to address the research questions. RESULTS: The study showed that there was a moderate positive significant relationship between continuous professional development and job performance. There was no significant difference in job performance when age, sex, and clinical experience are considered.  DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATION: Healthcare administrators should encourage and advocate for the participation of nurses in continuous learning to improve nurses’ knowledge and skills. Institution policies should be properly aligned to help nurses in the participation of professional roles. Further research should explore other variables in relation to continuous professional development to improve the job performance of nurses.

Imaging materials are the most important consumables in X-ray Departments and are key to the cost-effective running of the departments. While in use, some materials like radiographs are spoiled and discarded due to several reasons. At the same time, the skills that the radiographers have in producing radiographs play a major role in whether the film is accepted or rejected. The aim of this study was to undertake a wastage survey of materials used in conventional, specialized medical imaging and their relationship with Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Data collection was done in Mbangathi District Hospital. Phaseone involved the collection of radiographs and print paper wasted during examinations that were discarded. Phase two of the study was concerned with the filling in of questionnaires by the radiographers working in Mbagathi hospital regarding CPD. The study applied a descriptive design. The findings revealed that at Mbagathi X-Ray Department wastage rate was 5.47%. There were various reasons for radiograph wastage in Mbagathi Hospital which included exposure errors 59%, positioning 11%, processing 11% and film fog at 19%. From the results, exposure errors emerged as a major area where most wasted radiographs came from. The results from the questionnaire completed by the radiographers regarding CPD revealed that lack of finances was the most common obstacle to the attendance of continuous professional development activities (90.9%), followed by poor communication (72.7%), lack of time (54.5%) and the infrequent organization of CPD activities (27.3%).
