ABSTRACTThe presence of messenger application makes communication between lecturers and students easier, but in fact the ease gives negative impact so that the ethics should be owned by the students have decreased. At the time of contacting the lecturers, some of them did not say hello, introduced themselves, used informal language and were pushy. The purpose of this research is to know the student communication behavior in messenger application. Theory used is Theory of Communication Competence, Management of Anxiety and Uncertainty Theory and Computer Mediated Communication Theory. The research method is qualitative using case study data analysis. The results of this research that communicating with the lecturer using an informal language, calling a lecturer, not introducing himself, no apology does not mean the student is not polite. Familiarity, self-disclosure, and the environment shared between lecturers and students influence communication behavior. Students who have intimacy and openness communicate in a relaxed manner, but unlike students who lack familiarity and openness with the lecturers so that they communicate rigidly and reluctantly. Modern identity has been shaped by technology, which has in turn shaped theories in understanding identity. How one communicates who they are to others is given limitless possibilities by the advent of the Internet and computer-mediated environments. Thus, identity theory today must take into account computer-mediated communication theory and research. Such research indicates four ways in which identity is affected by technology. First, researchers have discussed the differences between an individual’s true identity and the virtual identity he or she presents, via self-selected text and images, to an online world. Second, researchers have discussed how the Internet can provide both protective anonymity for those who seek it and cathartic disclosure for those who need it. Third, researchers have discussed ways in which users pursue both reflective virtual lives online and role-play with identities, often multiple identities. Fourth, researchers have conducted experiments that reflect the impact that virtual identity has on the practice of communication and the impact communication has on the presentation of the self.

In this article, we will analyze the cultural dimension of intranets as knowledge management tools within organizations. An intranet is an information communication technology (ICT) based upon Internet technology (http://www, TCP/IP). The intranet phenomenon was introduced in the early 1990s following the idea that it can integrate all the computers, software, and databases within a particular organization into a single system that enables employees to find and share all the information they need for their work (Bernard, 1997; Cortese, 1996). Intranets function as a computer-mediated communication (CMC) tool and are used as computing networks used for sharing organizational information. While Internet technology is leading, access is restricted exclusively to organizational members (by means of electronic firewalls). In a study to the role of intranets in strategic management decisions, Curry and Stancich (2000) define Intranets as “…private computing networks, internal to an organization, allowing access only to authorized users” (p. 250). The term private indicates that an intranet is a network that can be accessed only by members of a particular organization. The term network emphasizes the connection between computers that enables corporate communication. Intranets run on open but controlled networks that enable organization members to employ the same WWW servers and browsers, which are distributed over the local area network (LAN).

The off-shore software development companies in countries such as India use a global delivery model in which initial requirement analysis phase of software projects get executed at client locations to leverage frequent and deep interaction between user and developer teams. Subsequent phases such as design, coding and testing are completed at off-shore locations. Emerging trends indicate an increasing interest in off-shoring even requirements analysis phase using computer mediated communication. We conducted an exploratory research study involving students from Management Development Institute (MDI), India and Marquette University (MU), U.S.A. to determine quality of such off-shored requirements analysis projects. Our findings suggest that project quality of teams engaged in pure off-shore mode is comparable to that of teams engaged in collocated mode. However, the effect of controls such as user project monitoring on the quality of off-shored projects needs to be studied further.

This study aims to determine the effect of the short video Tik Tok application on the existence of senior high school students. The theory used in this research is the CMC (Computer Mediated Communication) theory which is applied by the media to users which causes mood modification, tolerance, withdrawal, and conflict. The research approach used a quantitative approach using the Rho Spearman correlation analysis. The data collection technique used a questionnaire. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between the use of the Tik Tok application and the existence of high school equivalent students in Pekan Baru Riau. There were 36 respondents in this study using purposive sampling technique. The coefficient value shows a correlation of 0.637 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p <0.05), meaning that the higher the use of the Tik Tok application, the higher the existence of junior high school students. On the other hand, the lower the use of the Tik Tok application, the lower the existence of high school students. The Tik Tok application shows that it can channel the talents of its users to share hobbies, talents and expertise with everyone. The advantage of Tik Tok that other applications do not have is the completeness of various video features for its users. Although there are social media such as YouTube that offers video features in the form of video sharing channels, YouTube only provides channels for certain users who meet the requirements, not for everyone.

<p><em>This study explored patterns of interaction in a synchronous Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) collaborative activity in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting in the Saudi Arabian context. The study focused on the use of synchronous Chat in teaching and learning. Collaborative learning is considered to lead to a deeper level of learning, enhanced critical thinking, shared understanding and long-term recognition of the learned material.</em><em> A qualitative approach was used in the data collection process. </em><em>Participants were 20 high school students, native speakers of Arabic, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The study examined participants’ English usage in conversation, a quiz, and a discussion, all of which took place online, in a CMC format. There was also a paired work presentation of 25 minutes’ duration. Results revealed that CMC enabled learners to further their understanding of instructional content and to better apply what they had learned when they were placed in a group. The results from the online discussion showed that participants’ linguistic performance improved, including better utilization of words. Although grammatical usages lack certain accuracy, the use of CMC to a larger extent contributed to enhanced communication skills and autonomy. </em><em>Based on the findings some suggestions and recommendations were provided</em><em> as to aid teachers as well as students in implementing the Internet technology in EFL classrooms.</em><em></em></p>

This article discusses the communication strategy of the Tasawuf Underground community in da’wah to the punk community. The researcher analyzed the data collected through observation and in-depth interviews with key informants who retained da’wah experience in the Tasawuf Underground community. This study indicates that to preach to the Tasawuf Underground community, a preacher needs to have four things: a) source credibility; in this case, a preacher should have the charisma to influence the audience. b) the introduction of the “road map to home” is a term to invite punk children to study religious knowledge as a provision to return to the afterlife. c) effective communication between da’i and mad’u uses several media, mainly: social media, mass communication media, and interpersonal communication media. d) The message of da’wah is carried out in an informative and persuasive manner; an atmosphere of friendship and kinship is built between the audience and the communicator so that intimacy transpires. They built a communication strategy that resulted in changes in attitudes, actions, and improvements in the punk community members’ quality of life. Credible communicators, understanding audiences, choosing the suitable media and messages, and da’wah messages conveyed in a friendly and familial manner make communicators or preachers competent to influence the punk community in Tebet to return to the path of God and family.

The Internet has changed the way people communicate including how internet have used as the tools for producing and distributing the message. In Indonesia, the number of internet user has been increasing, particularly internet user who categorized as the youth. Some research states that the high internet user in this group has the correlation with the low quality of family interaction, the decrease of the social relationship as well as the feeling of lonely. This article tries to support those arguments. By applying the theory of Uses and Gratification and Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) this article tries to understand the correlation between the intensity of new media access and the quality of interaction of the internet user to the surrounding environmental interaction. The population is a student of Untag Surabaya who representing urban youth. This research involved 388 samples that are taken by using systematic random sampling. The results of the study show that there is a relationship between the intensity of accessing new media to the quality of the surrounding environmental interaction. The test results show that there is positive, strong, and significant correlation r (388) = 0,759; and 0.759, p <0.05. The higher the intensity of new media access, the higher the interaction of the environment around the students. This study is expected to provide new insights and findings related to the quality of students' social interactions relating to the use of new media.
