Research has shown that parental involvement in the educational experiences of their children increases student achievement and strengthens school programs. The majority of this research, however, has concentrated on the primary and elementary levels, with little being known about parental involvement at the middle and high school levels. This study sought to add to the literature related to parental involvement at the high school level by examining the experienced meaning of parental involvement from the perspective of high school parents. Specifically, parents of tenth-graders attending a low-income urban high school located in the southwestern United States with an ethnically diverse population were interviewed. These parents varied with regard to their economic status, cultural background, educational background, and personal beliefs. The interview sessions were semi-structured and included open-ended questions. All interview data were transcribed, coded, and analyzed according to Kvale's (1996) and Creswell's (2007) processes for analyzing data. Results indicate that these parents experienced difficulties in participating at their child’s school but often reaped benefits from their participation. While parental descriptions of their experiences of involvement were complex, multi-layered, and reflected the individuality of each participant, four major themes emerged from their stories: (1) technology and parental involvement; (2) economy and parental work schedules; (3) potential for parental growth; and (4) parental involvement outside the school. The implications of each of these themes is discussed in the context of providing suggestions to better utilize the benefits parental involvement can bring to the education provided at the high school level. To this end several suggestions are made regarding programs, practices, and services that could be implemented based on the educational and social needs of parents.  Keywords: High School, Parent, Parental involvement, Parents’ Perspective, Technology

In the subject, “High School Mathematics in the Univeristy,” I believe I have found a title which will permit me to discuss almost anything. For it might be interpreted to mean “what mathematics will the high school graduate need if he comes to the university,” or it might be interpreted to mean “what courses in mathematics on the high school level should the university provide for the student who comes with an insufficient mathematics preparation”? Furthermore, although it may not be immediately obvious, I believe that this topic is in close accord with our general theme, “mathematics to meet social needs.” Too often meeting social needs is thought to mean merely dashing about trying to find quick cures for deep-seated and little understood social ills, or making solemn pronouncements about the Social Order, or learning how to keep one's bank balance straight to say nothing of learning how to acquire and keep a bank balance of any kind. But, if we are to make some attempt to solve the great social problems of our day, it is hardly open to question that we must have knowledge, not only about the socalled Social Sciences, but about everything which interests and influences people in their individual and social behavior. This means knowledge of just about everything under the sun. To get this knowledge, and to apply it intelligently to the solution of these problems requires serious and concentrated study. Much of it is most economically secured by studying at a college or university. To pursue such studies effectively, the student cannot dispense with at least some mathematics, and in some fields, he obviously cannot have too much mathematics. And there are even those who will study mathe mathematics for its own sake. However, these are few in number; for, although mathematics is generally referred to as the handmaiden of the sciences, it is usually a case of “often a bridesmaid, but never a bride.”

INTRODUCTION OF TECHNOLOGY IN SUPPORT FARMING OF DUCK IN PASLATEN VILLAGE DISTRICT OF KAKAS REGENCY OF MINAHASA.The purpose of raising ducks by members of the Kinakas Jaya group was to produce eggs and meat. The eggs produced were around 60-70 percent of the total number of duck members owned by group members. The low production and productivity of ducks causes low income received by group members and not continuous whereas the demand for duck products has increased from year to year. Duck farming in North Sulawesi has a very large development prospect in terms of the population that tends to increase every year. The problem with raising ducks by group members was still traditional and the availability of DOD was not continuous. Based on these problems, empowerment of group members was carried out, namely extension and introduction of hatching machines. The research was conducted with the aim to find out the extent of empowerment activities in supporting duck business in Paslaten Village, Kakas District. The research method used was a survey method. The sample location was Paslaten Village, which was determined by purposive sampling (a village with a group of duck farmers). Respondents were members of the Kinakas Jaya group who were empowered through the introduction of technology. The age of the respondents ranged from 42-50 years with junior high school level (37.5%) and high school 62.5%. Extension was done and responded well by group members. Furthermore, the process of hatching eggs was carried out by group members. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the technology was successfully adopted by group members, but the success rate of hatching eggs was still low. Suggestions submitted need to increase the frequency of counseling and application of technology
