The article substantiates the relevance of sustainable development in modern business settings. The study provides calculation of indices of economic, environmental and social sustainability of regions in the 2017–2019 period along with suggesting an algorithm for a multifactor dynamic regression modeling method application. Within the scope of this research, the impact of agribusiness companies’ performances on economic, environmental and social sustainability of regions has been measured to integrate them as the key elements of aggregated indices of regional sustainable development. The greatest influence among the studied indicators on the economic, ecological and social sustainability of the region was revealed. To attain the research agenda, a methodological approach based on the calculation of indices and growth rates for relevant economic, social and environmental indicators has been employed. The findings reveal that the greatest impact on regional economic sustainability have the following indicators: total output of roots, tubers, vegetables and cucurbits produced by food manufacturing companies of all categories; the crop area for harvesting grain and grain legumes; total output of industrial crops; the area for forage crops harvesting. The greatest impact on environmental regional sustainability is attributed to the following indicators: the crop area for harvesting roots, tubers, vegetables and cucurbits; the area where the pesticides were applied. The greatest impact on social regional sustainability among all indicators under study has been demonstrated by the output of grain and grain legumes and the crop area for harvesting industrial crops. Based on the research findings, in the context of agribusiness strategic planning, the study provides a reasoned argument as to the critical need to adhere to the basic principles of sustainable development to ensure further socioeconomic growth in rural areas.

Sustainable development and sustainable housing indicators are a response to the trend of adopting sustainable development objectives, adopted by most countries, especially developed and less developed countries. It is difficult to implement indicators developed for a developing country context in other contexts with different social, economic and environmental conditions. Social sustainability is the most important priority regarding evaluating the housing development projects in the developed and less developed countries. Economic conditions is linked in many aspects to the social sustainability indicators. Environmental indicators are important, but the less developed countries in general has a very low environmental foot prints, this is because the industry sector is usually week comparing to the developed countries. This paper reviews the sustainable housing indicators, with a focus on United Nations reports and indicators developed for contexts similar to study area, without ignoring the most reputable indicators developed for developing countries context. The research came with a set of indicators reflects the social priorities of the new housing development in Sudan. A questionnaire participants decided the relative important of each indicator and also the importance of the parameters of each indicator. Developing a set of social priorities for Sudan will give extra efficiency in promoting and assessing sustainability in the study area. Description of the questionnaire results which reflects the national social sustainable housing development priorities are discussed. The researches came with a set of recommendations to enhance the social aspects for new housing development projects in Sudan. Using this set of priorities and recommendations will give extra efficiency in promoting and assessing sustainability in the study area.

The long-term strategic goal of Russia is the sustainable development of its regions. Recreational resources are able to create conditions for sustainable development of the region, the importance of which is due to the fact that on the one hand they are the basis and source of economic restructuring and its modernization, and on the other, they have an impact on social factors of sustainable development. National parks, being one of the important forms of natural and recreational resources, can become the initiators and centers of active dissemination of sustainable development strategy in the surrounding areas. The paper studies the impact of alternative use of the potential of national parks in the formation of sustainable development of the region. As a factorial feature, the share of the area of the national Park in the region of its location from the entire area of the region was made, as a result - indicators corresponding to the economic, social and environmental spheres of sustainable development of the region. The indicators of the resulting indicators of the economic sphere of development of the region were selected: GRP per capita, investment in fixed capital aimed at protecting the environment and the rational use of natural resources; current costs of environmental protection; social - morbidity rates per 1.000 people, the number of deaths per 1.000 people; life expectancy; environmental - the number of air samples studied exceeding the maximum allowable concentration as a percentage of the total number of samples studied. To measure the tightness of the relationship between certain indicators, the calculation of the empirical correlation ratio was applied. The calculations show the existence of links between the size of the national Park and economic, social and environmental indicators, thereby confirming the special functional role of recreational resources in the formation of the foundations of sustainable development of the region, which should now be considered as the basis and source of economic restructuring and modernization.

The spread of the doctrine of sustainable development in society has led to a change in approaches to activities, giving priority to resource and energy conservation, eco-orientation, socio-economic and humanistic aspects. This highlighted the need to develop methodological support for assessing the end result of innovative projects, when economic, environmental indicators and compliance with social needs of consumers are important. The market of electric scooters is considered, which, from the ecological point of view, are mainly considered as an alternative to the use of mechanisms with internal combustion engines (motorbikes, scooters, etc.). A method for evaluating the R&D results based on the principles of sustainable development, which: takes into account the level of implementation of sustainable development goals during the development and commercialization of R&D results and is formalized in the pricing structure; allows you to objectively determine the place of the product on the basis of sustainable development in a changing competitive market. The method was tested on the example of a three-wheeled electric scooter for people with disabilities, created by specialists of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. To do this: the factors of sustainable development are established, their ranking is done and the impact on the object of study is determined; marketing research of the market of micromobility for people with disabilities, with the allocation of its segment – electric scooters has been conducted; formalized apparatus for the method of competitive methodological approach to pricing based on sustainable development goals has been developed. The proposed method of economic evaluation of R&D results creates a basis for making flexible management decisions based on sustainable development, allows to take into account its components: economic, environmental and social.

The concept of virtual water, as a new approach for addressing water shortage and safety issues, can be applied to support sustainable development in water-scarce regions. Using the input-output method, the direct and the complete water use coefficients of industries categorized as primary, secondary, or tertiary, and the spatial flow patterns of the inter-provincial trade in the Gansu province region of China, were explored. The results show that in 2007, 2010, and 2012 the direct and complete water use coefficients of the primary industries were the greatest among the three industry categories, with direct water use coefficients of 1545.58, 882.28, and 762.16, respectively, and complete water use coefficients of 1692.22, 1005.38, and 873.44, respectively; whereas, the direct and complete water use coefficient values of the tertiary industry category were the lowest, with direct water use coefficients of 16.65, 7.74, and 66.89 for 2007, 2010, and 2012, respectively, and complete water use coefficients of 65.46, 66.89, and 72.81 for 2007, 2010, and 2012, respectively. In addition, study results suggest that the volume of virtual water supplied to Gasnu province’s local industries has decreased annually, while virtual water exports from the province have increased annually, with the primary industry accounting for 95% of virtual water output. Overall, the virtual water of Gansu province in 2010 showed a net output trend, with a total output of 0.506 billion m3, while in 2007 and 2012 it showed a net input trend with a total input of 0.104 and 1.235 billion m3, respectively. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Ningxia and other water-scarce areas were the main input, or import source for Gansu’s virtual water; during the years studied, these provinces imported more than 50 million m3 individually. Based on these results, it is clear that under the current structure, virtual water is mainly exported to the well-developed coastal areas and their adjacent provinces or other water-abundant regions. Therefore, Gansu province should (1) adjust the industrial structure and develop water-saving and high-tech industries; (2) adjust the current trade pattern to reduce virtual water output while increasing its input to achieve balanced economic development and water resource security.

Social housing functions are interrelated in manifold ways, expressing different needs and preferences of heterogeneous and socially unequal modern societies. The home as a place of individual shelter and privacy and as a node of interaction in social networks interferes with activities that had been spatially outsourced in the past and reintegrated again in recent times, such as productive labor, care or supply. In addition, social housing functions compete with economic functions of capital accumulation and profitmaking, transforming the dwelling into a tradeable commodity. Likewise, ecological functions of saving land and resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions have to be satisfied. These interdependencies challenge sustainable housing politics, most prominently signified in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 1, 10, and 11. The contribution captures this network of housing functions by advocating to strengthen social housing functions against economic functions. Political and philosophical justification of this position refers to theories of social capital and relational justice. Political measures feasible of being applied within the neoliberal system will be delineated, aiming to sustain social housing functions.

Motivation: Most studies on strategic orientation have focused on financial performance while neglecting social and environmental performance. In this era of sustainable development, the performance of SMEs is better measured using the triple bottom line approach (financial, social and environmental). Studies that examine the effect of strategic orientation on the sustainable performance of SMEs are scarce. Novelty: The aim of the study is to explore the impact of strategic orientation on the sustainable performance of SMEs. While extant studies have explored the effect of strategic orientation on the financial performance of SMEs, this study used the sustainable measure of performance that included financial, social and environmental indicators. Methodology and Methods: The study followed the quantitative research design and a self-administered questionnaire was employed during the data collection process. Data was collected from one hundred and forty SME owners in a cross-sectional survey. The participants of this study were in the retail, service and manufacturing sectors. Data and Empirical Analysis: The Pearson correlation and regression were used for analysis. The Pearson correlation results indicated a positive correlation between strategic orientation and sustainable performance, while the regression analysis showed that strategic orientation has a positive impact on the sustainable performance of SMEs. Policy Considerations: South Africa is a signatory to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals. The sustainable performance of SMEs can help to achieve these goals. The findings of this study can help small business owners to continuously acquire strategic orientation education for themselves and their employees. Agencies that support small businesses should organise seminars to train and educate SME owners on strategic orientation and sustainable performance.

Pursuing sustainable development creates competitiveness for manufacturing firms in the market, however the financial pressure of adopting sustainable environmental practices is still a major concern. Few studies were found on the inter-relationships between supply chain management practices, environmental sustainability, and firm financial performance. Moreover, manufacturing companies are compelled by different pressure groups across the globe to maintain environmental standards while conducting their business and supply chain activities. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the impact of supply chain practices on environmental sustainability and financial performance. In addition, the role of environmental sustainability as a mediator between supply chain management and financial performance was analyzed to improve sustainable development. A well-designed questionnaire was administered to manufacturing companies in Jordan for data collection. A total of 376 responses were analyzed and the proposed hypotheses were tested by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach. The results reveal that environmental sustainability was tested significantly and influenced by supply chain practices such as relationship with customers, postponement, level of information sharing, and information quality. Whereas environmental sustainability had a significant direct effect on financial performance. Finally, environmental sustainability mediated the relationship of all supply chain management practices with financial performance except strategic supplier partnership dimension. The study provides policy guidelines to decision makers while simultaneously assists the managers to improve sustainability practices in manufacturing companies.

This paper considers innovations as one of the factors of sustainable agricultural development of the Stavropol Territory. It focuses on the impact of state policy at the regional level in the field of innovations on the sustainable development of the region’s agriculture. This paper tests whether the implementation of the policy in innovations increased the sustainable growth of agricultural development. To do so, a model with switch variables was used. Principle component analysis was used to calculate a composite sustainability index of selected socio-economic and environmental indicators. The hypothesis that the introduction of a state policy aimed at innovation has a positive impact on the sustainable development of the regional agriculture was corroborated. We also assessed the impact of implementing this policy within each dimension separately. The socio-economic indicator is more important than the environmental indicator.

One of the stable trends in development of the world electric power industry is the transition from monotony to diversity in its evolution. It is characterized by a wide range of the strategic tasks solved by a set of the used energy resources and a changing spectrum of the possible energy technologies. However in the thermal energy supply of consumers in Russia for almost 100 years there is practically the only system of water heat supply that does not meet modern ecological, anthropogenic, technological and social requirements which motivated authors to conduct research on the alternative system of electrical heating. Materials for the study of the two heat supply systems were the actual parameters of alternative systems and their implication in technological and economic spheres as well as the impact on environmental indicators. Research methods include system approach, analysis of statistical data and authors’ estimates. Result of comparing of the two alternative heat supply system is the classification of their positive and negative factors at the qualitative and quantitative levels of assessment. The conducted research has shown the significant advantages of the new electric heat supply system which is more in line with the requirements of sustainable development of Russian cities, preserves health and improves quality of life of their inhabitants.
