Understanding children’s physical activity (PA) patterns and the factors that may influence PA are important for developing interventions within this population. One hundred and ten children aged 9–10 years from 8 schools had their PA patterns assessed over 7 days. Physiological and self-report data were also collected. Multilevel analyses revealed that cardiorespiratory fitness was a consistent, significant and positive predictor of weekday and weekend PA, while the availability of home sedentary activities was a significant but negative predictor of PA. Since a range of variables were associated with PA levels, intervention developers should be cognizant of variables that may influence children’s activity.

<p>The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge has replaced the existing Tappan Zee Bridge in New York. The new bridge was built by Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC. and is owned and operated by the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA). The new bridge is a 3.1 mile long crossing of the Hudson River and has an iconic main span structure, consisting of twin cable-stayed bridges, with 1,200’ main spans and 515’ side spans. Each new bridge carries four traffic lanes and the new crossing has been designed to accommodate the future addition of a rail bridge between the roadway decks. Utilizing a probabilistic-based service life design approach, the new bridge has been designed for a minimum 100-year service life before major maintenance for non- replaceable components, such as the foundations, sub-and superstructures. This paper provides the design features of the main span bridge and describes the design solutions, such as the use of fib Bulletin No. 34 to address the Service Life Design of the concrete components to address the durability challenges of this world- class project.</p>

This paper discusses the influence of local governments over the realization of «Double First-Class» project in China. Based on the qualitative analysis of 36 universities’ mid-term reports, the spillover effect on local economic and social development was found to be enhancing the core competitiveness of local governments. Text analysis of eight local governments’ «Double First-Class» implementation reports showed that the way of their promoting the «Double First-Class» construction were investment and talent introduction. The local participation in the «Double First-Class» competition under the constraint of national financial resources leads to the Matthew effect of university development. Universities selected for «Double First-Class» will get more resources and develop better, while other universities will be left behind. Therefore, the central government needs to intervene the competition of local governments.
