It is requisite that each activity is necessary to have a clear purpose as it was designed to be a well applicable plan. Scientific literacy indicates that science has value outside scientific practice is hardly modern idea and reality, although we lose sight of this history. Unfortunately, PISA study at 1999-2015 and several preexist works has shows that common science teachings don’t optimally guide students to achieve scientific literacy. As matter of fact, the answer to how to guide student achieving scientific literacy has not been obtained yet. By proposing this work, I am consider that thematic learning as an alternative method to guide students on achieving scientific literacy. Thematic learning is an educational method of teaching in which emphasis is given on choosing a specific theme for teaching concepts. It is based on integrating various information and use it to demonstrate the topic. Pedagogy of thematic learning is based on its exploration of broad areas in one theme. I don’t deny that the concept of integrating subjects to teach in Indonesian schools, generally is not new and has not been very successful in the past. In addition, some people consider thematic learning as an opportunity while others view it as having problems. The answer, however, to how thematic learning education implementation has not been studied yet comprehensively. Therefore, thematic learning lesson plans is very important to be designed then implemented. This work constructs lesson plan to guide primary education student on achieving scientific literacy, using R&D approach four-D model: define, design, develop, and disseminate. It gained lesson plan completed by student worksheets also assessment tests as well, that validated by experts and practitioners nor reliability counted based exclusively on test.

Abstract. The objective of this research is to show how people with disabilities are represented in Physical Education textbooks in use in Primary Education. The study design is empirical, descriptive, and focuses on comparing between the analyzed textbooks. A sample of 3,836 images were collected from textbooks published in Spain between 2006 and 2013, under the Organic Law of Education (LOE). A research technique based on content analysis was employed through a tailor-made system of categories, which was previously tested for validity and reliability in a pilot study, by consulting experts, as well as by intercoder agreement test. The statistical analysis of data was performed using the software SPSS 19.0. Univariate and bivariate analysis with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Levene test and Pearson Chi-Square test were performed, setting the significance level at 5%. Results showed that people with disabilities are mostly excluded in these images, especially impaired women. Disabled people are represented as Caucasian, either children or youth with a physical disability, mostly using wheelchair. Physical activity appearing in this group is associated with sports at a competitive and maximum level. These results are far from the inclusion of disability in today's society and specifically in textbooks of Physical Education in Primary Education within the Spanish educational system.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] Scientific literacy (SL) as an idea is considered by many to be one of the main goals of science education. This study focuses on Roberts' (2007) second vision of SL, the ability of students to competently navigate "situations with a scientific component..." (p. 730). Assessments centered on Vision-II-SL could be refined to better capture student's competency. To this end, this study focuses on the development of an open- ended Vision-II aligned assessment (QuASSR-oe2). To make this assessment usable in large populations this study utilizes automated scoring, which is the synergy of natural- language-processing and supervised-machine-learning. This study establishes the validity and reliability of the QuASSR-oe2 using psychometric techniques from classical-test theory and Rasch analysis. The study also establishes that accurate automated-scoring models (QWK > .7) can be generated, thus allowing for efficient scoring of open-ended student responses. Ultimately, this allows for the QuASSR-oe2 to be easily utilized in large populations.
