The National Mesothelioma Virtual Bank (NMVB), developed six years ago, gathers clinically annotated human mesothelioma specimens for basic and clinical science research. During this period, this resource has greatly increased its collection of specimens by expanding the number of contributing academic health centers including New York University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Marketing efforts at both national and international annual conferences increase awareness and availability of the mesothelioma specimens at no cost to approved investigators, who query the web-based NMVB database for cumulative and appropriate patient clinicopathological information on the specimens. The data disclosure and specimen distribution protocols are tightly regulated to maintain compliance with participating institutions’ IRB and regulatory committee reviews. The NMVB currently has over 1120 annotated cases available for researchers, including paraffin embedded tissues, fresh frozen tissue, tissue microarrays (TMA), blood samples, and genomic DNA. In addition, the resource offers expertise and assistance for collaborative research. Furthermore, in the last six years, the resource has provided hundreds of specimens to the research community. The investigators can request specimens and/or data by submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI) that is evaluated by NMVB research evaluation panel (REP).

Ronald N. Giere (1938-2020) nació en Cleveland, Ohio, Estados Unidos. Estudió física, doctorándose en Cornell University en Filosofía en 1968. En su larga carrera académica fue profesor en New York University y en University of Pittsburgh. Estuvo también en el Departamento de Historia y Filosofía de la Ciencia de Indiana University (Bloomington) y posteriormente en University of Minnesota. Pertenecía a la Asociación Estadounidense para el Avance de la Cien- cia, fue miembro del consejo editorial de la revista Philosophy of Science y antiguo presidente de la Philosophy of Science Association. Ha sido uno de los referentes de la filosofía de la ciencia de nuestra época, con un impacto muy importante a nivel internacional. El objetivo del monográfico en ArtefaCToS como homenaje a la figura de Ronald N. Giere es poner de manifiesto su pensamiento en las cuestiones claves que ha abordado la filosofía de la ciencia a lo largo de buena parte del siglo XX y que continúa siendo un punto de referencia para los retos que la filosofía tiene planteados actualmente. © 2020 New York University Perceived value among children is an important concept in consumer decisions, yet surprisingly no research has operationalized value for this consumer group. To address this omission, and following the guidelines of DeVellis (2016), this investigation reports the findings of a seven-stage process to develop a valid and reliable instrument for measuring perceived value among children aged 8–14 years. Value for children is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct capturing perceptions of what is received and what is given up, which differs from adult measures in terms of its composition and complexity. A 24-item scale is developed that shows internal consistency, reliability, construct validity, and nomological validity. We also demonstrate the validity of the new scale beyond an existing adult perceived value measure. Directions for future research and managerial implications of the new scale for studying children's consumer behavior are discussed.
