The problem of the research is factors that influencing the students’ writing skill. This research wasconducted at English Education Department FKIP Lancang Kuning University, Pekanbaru. Using DescriptiveResearch focusing on the second year students of class A consisting of twenty five students. This research tries to explain the factors influencing the improvement of the students’ writing skill. The instruments of this research were observation, field notes, and interview. After analyzing the data, it was found that factors influence the improvement of the students’ writing skill were material, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s strategy, and teacher’s approach. In conclusion, materials, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s strategy, and teacher’s approach are factors that influence the students’ writing skill.

The successful of teaching and learning process is cannot be separated from the lecturers' role that inspiring the students. An inspiring English lecturer should be possessed at least three skills namely attitudinal skills, teaching technical strategy, and students’ changes in learning English. In teaching strategy skills, it has the other indicators of being an inspiring English lecturer such as a) preparation; b) planning and development curriculum; c) use curriculum framework; d) clear targets and objectives of teaching; e) developing strategy and planning activities of teaching; f) designs of appropriate learning modules; g) planning classroom activities; h) finding new innovative teaching strategies; i) finding newest references; j) good classroom management. In teaching strategy to university students, the lecturer should be more interesting, creative and able to keep the students away from getting bored. In order to keep the students' away from getting bored in learning English, the lecturers had to use good teaching strategy. The objectives of this research are: (1) to know the teaching plan of the English lecturers based on teaching strategy; (2) to the teaching implementation of the English lecturers based on teaching strategy in English Education department. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is English Education Department of IAIN Samarinda. In this study, the researcher used a questionnaire guide and an observation sheet. The result of this research is that all of the lecturers of English Department of IAIN Samarinda is an inspiring person who always prepares the lessons well. This indicates that all students of English Education Department of IAIN Samarinda more appreciation with the statement. Meanwhile, the statement that shows the lowest responses is found on the statement of an English lecturer should think hard to find the latest references in their instructions. This indicates that a huge number of these indicators had not yet owned by IAIN English lecturers Samarinda.

This article examined the use of face-to-face peer review in writing class to develop students’ writing skill especially in writing a narrative text. The research was categorized as classroom action research and conducted at English Education Department at Tentena Christian University. The subject of the research were 16 students who enrolled writing 3 course. The aim of the research was to develop writing skill of English education department students at Tentena Christian University. Face-to-face peer review is the type of peer review in which the participants take turns to give comments and corrections toward each other writing and discuss it orally to avoid misunderstanding. The research consisted of two cycles where every cycles consisted of five meetings; four meetings for the instructional process and one meeting for the test. The data of the research were collected from observation sheets, field notes, questionnaires and students’s test achievement. The result of the research showed that face-to-face peer review was effective in developing the student’s skill in writing narrative text.

This study aims to reveal students’ perception on the use of comic strips in creative writing at English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. The study is a quantitative research and the descriptive method is applied. The questionnaire that consists of 14 items is used as an instrument to collect the data. The questionnaire employs Likert scale. Total random sampling is used to determine the sample. The sample is 42-seventh students English Education Department which consist of 27 students from class A and 15 students from class E. The students who have been chosen as the sample has already finished the class creative writing and has used comic strips as media. The collected data are quantitative and have analysed by percentage formula. The finding shows that most of the respondents have positive responses about the use of comic strips in creative writing. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the media comic strips are considered useful to the students. English lecturers are suggested to receive students’ responses towards the use of comic strips in creative teaching.

This study described and examined on the current English language learning strategies used by Indonesian Students English Education Department enrolled at State Islamic University of Sultan SyarifKasim Riau in Indonesia. The subjects of the study were (99) male and female students still studying for their Undergraduate degree in English Education Department. The study investigates the frequency of strategies use among these students according to gender and proficiency variables. Proficiency is reflected by students’ learning level (i.e., sophomore, junior, senior), self-reported proficiency in English (i.e., the students’ university average in English courses) and language self-efficacy (i.e,. how good the students perceived themselves as English learners). The collecting data used Questionnaire adopted from Oxford (1990a), Mohammad Amin Embi (1996) danPolitzer (1993), interview lecturers about the language learning strategies used by students. The results of this study showed that State Islamic University of Sultan SyarifKasim, English Education Department used learning strategies with high to medium frequency, and that the highest rank (79.6%) was for Metacognitive strategies while the lowest (63%) was for compensation strategies and the others used cognitive, memory, affective and social. In general, the results showed that gender and proficiency had no significant differences on the use of strategies. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that more training should be given in using Cognitive, Memory, Affective, social and Compensation strategies by embedding them into regular classroom activities or teaching and learning process

ABSTRACT The research aims at utilizing cooperative learning in teaching reading skill for Islamic college students. The research was classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles where each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subject were taken from PAI 5 which contained 30 students. The data of this research were obtained from the test, observation checklist, and field notes. The findings of research showed that cooperative learning was effective in developing students’ reading skill. The findings revealed that there were nineteen students who achieved the minimum criteria of achievement in cycle 1, which percentage was 63.3%. In cycle 2, it was found that there were twenty five students who achieved the minimum criteria of achievement, which percentage increased to 83.3%. Both of the classical and individual achievements have met the criteria of success. Besides, students were active in joining classroom activities and completing their classroom tasks. Therefore, it can be concluded that the cooperative learning was effective to develop the students’ reading skill. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan pembelajaran kooperatif dalam pembelajaran keterampilan membaca mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi Islam. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian diambil dari kelas PAI 5 yang terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil tes, lembar observasi, dan catatan lapangan. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran kooperatif efektif dalam mengembangkan keterampilan membaca mahasiswa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa ada sembilan belas mahasiswa yang mencapai kriteria pencapaian minimal pada siklus 1, dengan persentase 63,3%. Pada siklus 2, ditemukan bahwa ada dua puluh lima mahasiswa yang mencapai kriteria pencapaian minimum dengan persentase 83,3%. Persentase klasik dan individual telah memenuhi kriteria keberhasilan. Selain itu, mahasiswa aktif mengikuti kegiatan kelas dan menyelesaikan tugas kelas mereka. The purpose of the research is to find out the use of video to improve students’ pronunciation. The study employed a classroom action research. The participants of this study were 37 students. They were the second year students of FKIP (faculty of teacher training and education) in Islamic University Riau (UIR) Pekanbaru, Indonesia. This study was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle comprised four meetings. The data of this research were obtained through (1) observation sheets, (2) field notes, (3) interview, and (4) tests which consisted of consonants in detail, linking, and stress within target segments based on the phonetic symbols. The findings showed that the use of video in mastering pronunciation was able to improve students’ pronunciation. The study also revealed that the activities of using video enable students to enhance the quality of sound patterns they pronounce. In this case the researcher found that the key factors that enhance the quality of sound patterns were also influenced by familiar words, student’s basic needs and level. Hence, those factors should be considered in learning and teaching pronunciation. Moreover, the activity such as listening and imitating the way native speaker pronounces words and sentences as the lesson material can help students improve their pronunciation. The average class score of students’ pronunciation increased from 58.4 in the first cycle to 88.3 in the second cycle. Material, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s approach, and teacher’s strategy were also significantly essential for the improvement of students’ pronunciation.

Students four grade semester English Education Department have difficult in writing. They have  limitation in English vocabulary building, students didn’t understand  systematically in writing. They usual use common words in writing English so that they weak in writing skill. Lecturer choose clustering technique to improve students’writing skill. The advantages this technique can mapp students’mind, an idea or theme with symbols and diagram after that they can improve become written or text. Furthermore all of the content in which they want to write based on the outline. This research aim to know improving students’writing skill  through clustering technique on students STKIP Kusuma Negara, Jakarta. It is qualitative research using classroom action research method. It was conducted two cycle. Each of cycle consist of four steps. There are planning, acting, observing and reflecting. This research was conducted with the subject twenty five students in fourth semester English Education STKIP Kusuma Negara Jakarta. Data were collected  through interview, observation and test. The result of this research is improving students’writing skill through Clustering Technique showed an increasing percentage and average score. Cycle I was  32 % students pass in writing skill or the average score is 73.28, in Cycle II was 88 % students pass in writing skill or the average score is 81.6. The students given positive responses, they were enthusiastic and motivated when they written in English by Clustering Technique. Based on the result, it  can be concluded Clustering Technique could improve the students’writing skill on STKIP Kusuma Negara.

ABSTRACTThis study was designed to increase students’ active involvement and to improve their speaking ability using Think-Pair-Share Strategy at Muhammadiyah University of Ponorogo. The study was collaborative action research. This study was conducted in one cycle consisting of five meetings using the following procedures: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The data of the study were collected through the observation checklists, field notes, and questionnaire. The subjects were 26-second semester students of Class A. The increase could be seen from the number of students who were categorized as actively involved from only 7 students (29%) in the preliminary study to 20 students (78%) of 26 at the end of the study. The improvement of students’ speaking ability could be seen from the increasing number of students whose average score was 3, from 7 students (29%) of 24 students in the preliminary test to 17 students (65%) of 26 students in the final test. Therefore, this strategy is appropriate for the students to increase their active involvement and improve the speaking ability.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan keaktifan dan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa dengan menggunakan Berfikir-Berpasangan-Berbagi di Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang bersifat kolaboratif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari lima pertemuan dengan menggunakan prosedur sebagai berikut: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan penghayatan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan kuesioner. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 26 mahasiswa semester 2 kelas A. Peningkatan keterlibatan aktif mahasiswa dapat dilihat dari meningkatnya jumlah mahasiswa yang termasuk dalam kategori aktif yang pada saat penelitian awal hanya 7 mahasiswa (29%) menjadi 20 mahasiswa (78%) dari 26 mahasiswa yang masuk pada saat hari observasi pertemuan terakhir. Peningkatan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa dapat dilihat dari meningkatnya jumlah mahasiswa yang memiliki nilai rata-rata 3, dari 7 orang menjadi 17 orang. Maka dari itu, strategi ini sesuai bagi mahasiswa untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan aktif dan memperbaiki kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris mereka. How to Cite: Syafii., M. L. (2018). This research was aimed to know how far the students’ understanding of digital literacy, to know how high the students’ writing originality, and to know the correlation between students’ understanding of digital literacy and students’ writing originality. Digital literacy is someone’s capability to use the digital device, receive, communicate process, evaluate, and share the information cognitively and technically. Originality is emphasized in writing because it is used as the measurement of the writers’ idea and creativity in writing. This research used correlational study to check the correlation between variable. The population of this research was the 2015th generation of English Education Department Students of IAIN Salatiga. It used cluster random sampling to decide the sample of this research. Class A was used as the sample of the research that consisted of 32 students. The data that was collected was analyzed using SPSS 20. Based on the data analysis, it resulted that r(count) 0.83 > r (table) 0.349. From the result, it can be concluded that there was positive perfect correlation between digital literacy understandings with student’s writing originality

This study aimed to identify the integrated lesson as an alternative teaching strategy in pronunciation teaching. The pronunciation teaching mainly focused on word ending of past tense regular verbs. The participants of the study included a lecturer and 30 students of English education department. To collect the data, the researcher used observation and reading test. The result showed that the lecturer employed the integrated lesson based on some criteria: the students, the lecturer, the learning environment, the learning resources, and the classroom activities. The reading test result showed that from 30 students, 11 students got 100% of correctness, 3 students got 95% of correctness, 5 students got 90% of correctness, 4 students got 85% of correctness, 3 students got 80% of correctness, 2 students got 75% correctness, and 2 students got 70% of correctness. It was indicated that integrated lesson accomplished by the lecturer with careful planning and preparation could give positive influence to the students’ language comprehension and performance.
