Family quality of life (FQoL) is considered one of the aims of early intervention (EI) services and a good indicator of service quality. Families were recruited from EI centers in 12 of 17 communities (states) in Spain. This study describes the FQoL of 250 Spanish families with children aged 0 to 6 years in EI services during a family-centered implementation process. We used an EI-specific FQoL scale that includes families’ perception of their child’s functioning as one factor. We also describe the relationships among individual, family, and service variables as well as FQoL. Type of disability, socioeconomic status, and family-centered practices impacted Child Functioning, Overall Life Situation, and Access to Information and Services factors, respectively. Fewer number of professionals involved was related with greater perception of child’s functionality. Family-centeredness, type of family, and type of disability were the most influencing variables for the Total score. Implications for practice are discussed.

Starting from the research question about the meanings the family attributes to interactions experienced during their child's hospitalization, this study tried to understand the interaction experience of families in pediatric hospitals, as well to identify the interventions considered effective the family's perspective. Symbolic Interactionism was the theoretical framework that supported the data analysis process, and Grounded Theory was the methodological framework. Six families with hospitalized children participated. The results allowed us to identify the phenomena "feeling secure to assume risks" and "feeling insecure to assume risks", representing the symbolic meanings attributed to relational contexts that emerge from interaction between families and health professionals. The identified concepts significantly contribute to achieve a better understanding of the family-centered care approach and provide a way to reflect on interaction and intervention with families in pediatric clinical care practice.

Distress reverberates throughout the family during palliative care and bereavement, inviting consideration of a family-centered model of care. Targeting families thought to be “at risk” has merit. The Family Focused Grief Therapy model was tested in a randomized controlled trial of 81 families (353 individuals) and bereavement outcome is reported here for treatment completers compared to controls. There were no significant baseline differences between treatment completers and non-completers. Significant reduction in distress occurred at 13 months post death for the families completing treatment, with further improvements for the 10% of individuals most distressed at baseline. A preventive model of family-centered care applied to those at greatest risk is meritorious and in keeping with the aspirations of Cicely Saunders for improving the quality of hospice care.

Chronic diseases have a significant social and economic effect on individuals and societies. These diseases require lifelong care and management. Individuals with chronic diseases need to focus on complications, treatment and prevention. Self-efficacy for performing self-care behaviours is important to bring a change in lifestyle in these individuals which will eventually help in successful personal disease management. This case discusses a typical patient and family centerd care (PFCC) model where the lifestyle changes of a 14-year-old male hemophilia patient were successfully managed. This hemophilia patient required constant medical services, however there were constraints like low accessibility and affordability to healthcare centers. In this model, patients and family members are made partners and collaborators in delivering a sustainable focus on the patient. This model has helped in reducing the frequency of hospital visits and caretakers valuable time. Patient and family-centered care enables patients to self-manage treatment and facilitate doctors to attend other critical cases efficiently. The implementation of PFCC in managing a hemophilia patient turned out to be immensely useful and thus could improve the patient’s quality of life.

The quality of human resources, considered as a set of certain assessment criteria that are dynamic in nature, due to the basic indicators and factors of the internal and external environment of the social and economic system of the region needs a comprehensive management impact aimed at improving the system and its elements. The quality of human resources in socio-economic systems, as well as tools aimed at the formation of qualitative parameters, form the problem of improving the economic mechanism for improving the quality of human resources in modern conditions, which should take into account the management goals, the state and prospects for the development of quality parameters of the system elements, to ensure the effective functioning of the conceptual model of quality management of human resources.
