The research is aimed  at  finding out the politeness  strategies  based on Brown and Levinson politeness strategies theory that used by the members of UKM Debat, the University of Bengkulu when practice debate. The subject of this research was the members of UKM Debat, the University of Bengkulu that consist of eight students. This research was using descriptive qualitative as the methodology and the data were collected by using transcript from video recorder and observation sheet as the instruments. The result of data analysis shows that the debaters use all of politeness strategies but they do not used all sub strategies when practice debate, which is bald on record, positive politeness strategy, negative politeness strategy, and off record. There were 28 utterances that consist of politeness strategy. The debaters mostly applied positive politeness strategy, which occurs 19 times (67,8%). Bald on record and off record occur 4 times (14,3%) and the last is negative politeness strategy which occurs 1 times (3,6%). Positive politeness strategy gets  the  highest  position  in  the  data  because  in  practicing  debate,  all debaters have known each other and have a close relationship

<p>This research deals with the use Positive Politeness in “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” Movie. To do the research, the writer formulates the problem as follow: (1) What Positive Politeness strategies are used in “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince” Movie? 2. What is the most dominant strategy of Positive Politeness Used in “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince” Movie? This study is focused on Brown and Levinson (1987) positive politeness theory by using fifteen strategies of positive politeness. The objective of the study are to describe and determine the positive politeness used in that movie. The data are obtained from all the dialogues in that movie. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this study is “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” movie, and the objects are the fifteen strategies of positive politeness. The techniques of collecting data are by watching movie, identifying and transcribing the script of the dialogues then put them into columns. The data is analyzed by identifying and transcribing the script of the dialogues, classifying the positive politeness strategies used in that movie then counting it and find out the dominant positive politeness strategy. The findings of the data analysis show that there are thirteen of fifteen strategies of positive politeness found in the movie each with the number and percentage of occurrences. Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengembangkan buku petunjuk pratikum pada pokok bahasan gelombang dan bunyi untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode research and development (R & D). Sebagai subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa MAN 2 Model Mataram Kelas XI. Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah Dick & Carey yang terdiri dari 10 langkah yang harus diikuti untuk menghasilkan produk berupa buku petunjuk pratikum. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara, angket dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif untuk mengukur motivasi belajar siswa. Abstract:  The purpose of this study was to develop a pratikum manual on the subject of waves and sounds to improve student motivation. This research uses research and development (R & D) method. As subject in this research is student MAN 2 Model Mataram Class XI. The development model used is Dick & Carey which consists of 10 steps that must be followed to produce the product in the form of manual pratikum. Data obtained through interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative to measure student's learning motivation.

The research aims to describe the functions of humor used in an American comedy movie The Boss. The subject of the research was American comedy movie The Boss. Descriptive qualitative method was used to conduct the research. Data collection was done through library research and documentation. Data analysis was done through identification, coding, classification and description. The researcher found several findings. Supported by Meyers theory of joke, there are 6 functions of jokes found in the movie such as to insult someone, to express anger, to tease someone, to relieve tension, to get attention, and to amuse others. The dominant function was differentiation particularly to insult and to express anger 21 times, the second was clarification particularly to relieve tension humorous lines and amuse others 15 times, the third was enforcement particularly to tease 18 times, and the last was identification particularly to relieve tension and to get attention 27 times. These functions were also analyzed and discriminated by different setting and participant based on formality and participants distance. According to the analysis, most jokes occurred in informal situation with intimate relationship among the participants and functioned to tease someone and to relieve tension. This finding also proves that American humor is expressed with more slapstick and vulgarity as the characteristic of American humor used in daily communication. The purpose of this research were to find out (1) whether the types of politeness strategies in Enola Holmes movie are in accordance with politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) or not, (2) what type of politeness strategies most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie, (3) which character(s) use politeness strategies most frequently than the others, and (4) what type of violating maxims based on Grice’s maxim most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie. The design of this research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research were in the form of utterances that contained politeness strategies and cooperation and implicature (Violating of maxim). The result shows that (1) the types of politeness strategies in Enola Holmes movie are in accordance with politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987); (2) Bald on Record is the most frequent politeness strategies appeared in Enola Holmes movie. Bald on Record is mostly used by the characters because there is a power, social status, or close relationship among the characters.; (3) there are three characters who used politeness strategies more frequently, they are Enola Holmes, Sherlock Holmes, and Tewkesbury (4) Violating maxim of relevance is the most frequently appeared in Enola Holmes movie.

This study focuses on analyzing the use of Brown and Levinson's politeness strategies to reflect sociocultural competence among adult learners. English is an international language in international communication to talk with people of different age, gender, status, etc. Besides, politeness strategies can reflect somebody's sociocultural competence when he/she talks to others. At the beginning of this study, preliminary research showed that English was used as a language tool in the class for adult students in conversation classes. The adult students came from different backgrounds including job, age, gender, status, culture, existence, and experience. Some of them had been abroad and communicated with the English native speaker directly. A proficiency test was used at the beginning of the research. It was continued by a sound recorder, video recorder, DCT, and interview to get the data. The findings reveal the more prominent use in bald on record and positive politeness strategies. Those strategies, based on the theory of Brown and Levinson and Celce Murcia, showed there was a close relationship between the speakers. The rest of the strategies showed that there was a distance between the speakers. In conclusion, politeness strategies were in students' interactions to reflect their sociocultural competence. The suggestion focuses on giving practices to students to increase their experiences in implementing politeness strategies.

Problem-solving is the important part of mathematics curriculum. Most of students still have difficulties and error in prombelm solving. This research aims to know problem-solving ability of students on counting operations of algebra form. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject is students grade VII-F SMP N 1 Wonosari. The data collecting technique is a problem-solving test. The data analysis according to Miles and Huberman, which is data reduction, data presentation, and making the conclusion. The results of this research showing that: (1) 95.56% of students can understand the problem, 4.44% of students cannot understand the problem; (2) 18.33% of students can devising a plan, 81.67% cannot devising a plan; (3) 28.61% of students can carrying out the plan, 71.39% cannot carrying out the plan; (4) 45% can looking back the answer, 55% cannot looking back the answer.

Abstract: This research aims to examine the implementation of reward and punishment strategies implemented in KB-TK Rumah Cerdas in an effort to improve teacher discipline. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subject in this study was teacher of KB-TK Rumah Cerdas Malang. Data collection techniques using interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and inference. The results showed that the implementation of reward and punishment strategies in teacher discipline management in KB-TK Rumah Cerdas is to sanction money fines for late teachers and gold awards for teachers whose discipline comes on time. The implementation of this strategy has been shown to help improve teacher discipline in KB-TK Rumah Cerdas. Keywords: discipline; teacher; reward; punishment Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti implementasi strategi reward and punishment yang diterapkan di KB-TK Rumah Cerdas Kota Malang dalam upaya meningkatkan kedisiplinan guru. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu guru di KB-TK Rumah Cerdas Kota Malang. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk implementasi strategi reward and punishment dalam manajemen kedisiplinan guru di KB-TK Rumah Cerdas adalah dengan pemberian sanksi denda uang bagi guru yang terlambat dan penghargaan berupa emas bagi guru yang disiplin datang tepat waktu. Penerapan strategi tersebut terbukti membantu meningkatkan kedisiplinan guru di KB-TK Rumah Cerdas. Kata kunci: Kedisiplinan; guru; penghargaan; hukuman

Changes in space and time also have an impact on changing patterns, approaches, methodologies, and characteristics of dakwah. Therefore da'wah can be situational and contextual according to the space and time that surrounds it. The understanding of a da'i in understanding Islamic da'wah comprehensively will give rise to a perspective in which the approach, dimensions and dynamics that must be prepared and what kind of model will be used in da'wah activities will determine the success of the da'wah activity. Kiai Ahmad Fauzan is one of the scholars who can be said to be visionary. Due to in-depth reading in terms of conditions, situations, and abilities, finally Kiai Ahmad Fauzan, besides using a cultural approach, also uses a structural approach. The structural approach was used as a method of da'wah which was fairly effective for him. Because, from the use of the structural da'wah method, Kiai Ahmad Fauzan can make it easier to coordinate, regulate, and ratify the rules that should apply or not. The methods of proselytizing Kiai Ahmad Fauzan found in this study are methods of political da'wah and methods of proselytizing education. This research uses descriptive-qualitative research with historical analysis in the form of "oral or spoken" from historians and people who have a close relationship with the subject or object under study.

This research was intended to analyze the politeness strategy employed by the characters in expressing apology based on Brown and Levinson’s politeness strategies in the movie The Princess Diaries (2001). Designed as a descriptive-qualitative research, the data was analyzed by using the descriptive method where politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) was applied to see the types of politeness strategies. The data was taken from an American Comedy, Family and Romance movie entitled The Princess Diaries (2001). The result of the analysis showed that there were 15 utterances that can be classified as apologizing expression which were analyzed by using Brown and Levinson (1987) Politeness Strategies. Those 15 utterances were divided into 11 utterances using positive politeness and 4 utterances using negative politeness. Based on Brown and Levinson’s politeness strategies, positive politeness happened in a group of friend and a group of family that have close relationship with the Speaker while negative politeness used to avoid offence of the Hearer by showing respect. Thus, it is concluded that positive politeness was the most politeness strategies applied by all the characters in the movie to express apology, and all the characters who applied positive politeness strategy are female.   Keywords: Politeness Strategies, Apologizing Expression, Discourse Analysis.

Songs are one of media in language to communicate or deliver a message which created by a songs’ writer through a singer to listeners. Songs is very effective as a media in analyzing systemic functional linguistic, because in song contained two text at once, those are when a singers sing, the song is the spoken text, and the song lyric is the written text. The objective of this study is to describe the aspects of Interpersonal Meaning in the lyric of Adele’s Album 21. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative method. The writers analyzed the a song entitled ”Don’t You Remember” based on the Subject, Finite, Predicator, Complement and Adjunct that describe in the table. The writers classified them based on Mood-Residue elements and made the conclusion based on the research findings. The results of the data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyric Don’t You Remember of Adele’s album “21”, there are only 4 clauses which do not have aspects of interpersonal meaning from 28 clauses which be analyzed because the clauses only have one element, it is residue. Thus, the conclusion is  85.7 % of the data can be analyzed to find out mood and residue  as the aspects of interpersonal meaning.Keywords: Interpersonal meaning, Song lyric
