Nanosized Bismuth Iron Garnet (BIG) was synthesized via sol-gel method. The nanomaterials with ferrite structure were heat-treated at different temperatures from 700 to 1100 °C. The structure and morphology were characterized by Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The PXRD show that with the increase of temperature the size of crystallites for BIG gradually increased. The BIG ferrite nanopowder was composited with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) by solution casting method with different ferrite ratios. The magnitudes of S-parameters of PVDF/BIG were investigated using rectangular waveguide in conjunction with a microwave vector network analyzer (VNA) at microwave frequencies. The S-parameters of PVDF/BIG are found to be slightly different from those of ferrite contents in polymer composites. The S11is found to be increased by increasing the ferrite content of the composites as well as with frequency while the S21is observed to decrease with increase in ferrite content.

A comparative study between micropowders and nanopowders of Y3Fe5O12(YIG) by means of ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) is reported. Significant changes in lineshape of the FMR spectra between both samples are observed, in particular, the absorption mode in nanopowders have an internal structure which can be associated with magnetostatic modes. Additionally, a method to measure the non-resonant microwave absorption, as function of an applied magnetic field around zero field, known as the low-field microwave absorption (LFMA) is also employed. LFMA technique is used to give a further knowledge on the YIG samples, showing their main characteristics highlighted. These techniques are powerful tools for the research of magnetic materials at microwave frequencies.

The frequency dependencies of the transmission coefficient of surface magnetostatic waves (SMSW) propagating in subwavelength magnonic structures obtained by depositing of 1D and 2D thin-film metastructures based on a permalloy film 40 nm thick onto the surface of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film were experimentally studied. Such structures in the frequency range 1–10 GHz (typical for the study of SMSW in YIG films) lead to modulation of attenuation and the effective internal magnetic field in the YIG film. The possibility of controlling the parameters of the bandwidth of the SMSW by the choice of the direction of magnetization in the plane of the structures relative to their axis of symmetry is shown.

The exsolution of magnetite from a substituted Yttrium Iron Garnet, containing an iron excess may lead to a transitional event. This event is characterized hy the formation of a transitional zone at the center of which the magnetite nucleates (Fig.1). Since there is a contrast between the matrix and these zones and since selected area diffraction does not show any difference between those zones and the matrix in the reciprocal lattice, it is of interest to analyze the structure of the transitional zones.By using simultaneously different techniques in electron microscopy, (oscillating crystal method microdiffraction and X-ray microanalysis)one may resolve the ionic process corresponding to the transitional event and image this event subsequently by high resolution technique.
