The paper presents the improvement in the performance of eight element microstrip antenna array. The overall bandwidth of the proposed microstrip antenna array is equal to 85.74 % as compared to 4.98 % of the conventional antenna array. The proposed microstrip antenna array is producing good reduction in mutual coupling values at the resonant frequency of 5.53 GHz. Moreover, the radiation properties of conventional antenna array are improved with good reduction in power radiated in the undesired direction. The proposed microstrip antenna array is producing a healthy size reduction of 47.19 %. FR-4 glass epoxy substrate is used as dielectric substrate which has a dielectric constant of 4.2 and loss tangent of 0.0245. The microstrip antenna arrays are designed using Mentor Graphics IE3D software.

An efficient technique utilizing the defected ground structure (DGS) to suppress the mutual coupling effect of a dual-frequency microstrip antenna array is studied. The proposed dual-frequency DGS beneath two patches includes two circular split ring slots, each of which corresponds to one resonant frequency of the patches. The characteristic of the compact DGS is theoretically and experimentally investigated. The prototypes of the patches arrays with and without the proposed DGS are fabricated. Both the simulated and measured results show that the mutual coupling between array elements has been obviously reduced at the two operating frequency bands with the implementation of the proposed DGS structure.


In this paper two element microstrip antenna array with dumbbell shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is on reduction of mutual coupling is presented. The proposed of DGS antenna is simulated by an soft HFSS simulation software. this work is obtain a miniaturized microstrip patch antenna array using DGS for S Band is 2.2GHz.Initally the patch antenna array is designed at C band resonates at 5.2 GHz and the proposed of DGS is integrated in the ground plane of patch antenna for size reduction and this miniaturization is at cost of gain antenna and in order to improve the gain of miniaturized radiator. Patch radiator is further modified to radiation properties, so finally the resonance frequency of an initial microstrip antenna array shifts to 3.75 GHz to 7.15 GHz with the gain of 2.92 dB and its miniaturization performance is up to 63% and its conventional microstrip is successfully accomplished. The prototype antenna is fabricated with the FR-4 substrate and this technique is validate experimentally and measured results with good agreement as stimulated results.
