This case study is located in the Department for Education Innovation (EI), a teaching and learning support unit at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The initial problem was the need to apply project management and quality management principles to the services offered by the department to faculty members. The authors describe the implementation of a formal, online, process-based Quality Management System (QMS) designed to self evaluate, document, and improve the Instructional Design (ID) process that guides the development of educational technology solutions in EI. The project was completed in 2005 and was included in a CEN (European Committee for Standardization) Good Practice Guide for outstanding implementations of quality approaches in e-learning. The QMS provides a mechanism to support a consistent project management approach, and the case illustrates successful integration between three cycles: Project Management (PM), Quality Management (QM), and the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) instructional design process.

The Total Quality Management System (TQM) is an integrated management approach that aims to continuously improve the performance of services and exceed the expectations of associates. The study aimed at determining the impact of the application of the Total Quality Management (TQM) system in improving performance in the Cooperative of State Employees (CSE) in Lebanon. The study also aimed at building a conceptual framework that can be used as a guide in formulating an effective approach that enables high management in the Cooperative of State Employees (CSE) to successfully implement a Total Quality Management (TQM) system. The study sample consisted of employees in the Cooperative of State Employees (CSE). To verify the study hypotheses, a five-point Likert style questionnaire was constructed and distributed among the sample to measure and reveal the impact of implementing the TQM system on improving the performance of the CSE. The results of the study showed that implementing the TQM system has a critical role in improving the financial performance of the CSE, while it has no impact of significance on improving managerial performance at the CSE.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar pada mata kuliah Dasar-Dasar Matematika di Program Studi Matematika, Universitas Negeri Surabaya.Model yang digunakan untuk pengembangan bahan ajar pada penelitian ini adalah model pengembangan ADDIE yang terdiri 5 tahap, yaitu tahap Analisis (Analysis), Perancangan (Design), Pengembangan (Development), Implementasi (Implementation), dan Evaluasi (Evaluation). Sementara, metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah metode ceklist pada setiap langkah pada Instructional Design Process Step/Action Checklist, jika tidak maka harus ada langkah alternatif yang dilakukan atau ada alasan yang relevan yang tidak mempengaruhi proses pengembangan. Perkuliahan Dasar-Dasar Matematika menggunakan bahan ajar blended learning telah disusun berdasarkan model pengembangan ADDIE. Setiap langkah pada Instructional Design Process Step/Action Checklist telah dilaksanakan dan telah menghasilkan bahan ajar berbasis blended learning. Penelitian ini diawali dengan pembuatan story line yang merupakan panduan dalam pengembangan bahan ajar. Dari hasil analisis angket respon mahasiswa, diperoleh lebih dari 75% mahasiswa memberikan respon positif tidak hanya pada bentuk perkuliahan yang menggabungkan antara perkuliahan online dan offline melalui blended learning tetapi juga tentang ketergunaan materi yang disampaikan secaran online melalui Vi-learn Unesa.Kata kunci: bahan ajar, blended learning, ADDIEThis study aims to develop teaching materials in the Basic Mathematics course in the Mathematics Study Program, Surabaya State University. The model used for the development of teaching materials in this study is the ADDIE development model consisting of 5 stages, namely the Analysis, Design (Design), Development (Development), Implementation (Implementation), and Evaluation (Evaluation). Meanwhile, the method used to analyze data is the checklist method at each step in the Instructional Design Process Step / Action Checklist, if not then there must be an alternative step taken or there is a relevant reason that does not affect the development process. Lectures on Basic Mathematics using blended learning teaching materials have been prepared based on the ADDIE development model. Every step in the Instructional Design Process Step / Action Checklist has beencarried out and has produced teaching materials based on blended learning. This research begins with the creation of a story line which is a guide in the development of teaching materials. From the analysis of student questionnaire responses, it was obtained that more than 75% of students gave positive responses not only to the form of lectures that combined online and offline lectures through blended learning but also about the use of material delivered online through Vi-learn Unesa.Keywords: ADDIE, blended learning, teaching materials

A great deal of instructional designers' time is spent designing the course content and managing projects. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of literature examining the project management knowledge, skills, and abilities performed by and expected of instructional designers from different sectors. To fully demonstrate the importance of management in the instructional design process, the author examines prior research and highlights the significance of reviewing the competencies and standards developed by professional organizations within the field. This chapter also discusses the importance of management to the instructional design process, how to successfully align and bridge the gap between instructional design models – ADDIE and SAM – and project management, as well as how the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) complements the instructional design process. The author examines project management, cost and budget management, people management, and timelines and deadline management. The author concludes by explaining how the chapter will benefit new instructional designers entering the field while also enhancing current instructional designers' knowledge about management trends and expectations.

The life cycle management of navy vessels quality is presented, and the quality of various phases in the navy vessels life cycle is academically described. On the management of phase quality, taking shipbuilding as an example, the definition of the phase quality is provided, requirements of comprehensive quality management are discussed, which include the total-staff participation, the whole process of management, comprehensive approach and concept of quality. On the integrated quality management of the navy vessels life cycle, the mode that staffs participating in the various stages of life cycle, and integrated requirements of ship design, modeling & simulation environment are proposed. Technical support and realization of the quality management of navy vessels life cycle are presented, which has laid the foundation for the realization of the quality management of navy vessel.

Numerous pilot- and demonstration projects for appropriate waste water management solutions for the urban poor in developing countries have been conducted and can be considered as good practices. In order to have a chance to achieve the MDGs it is urgently necessary to scale those pilot implementations up and reach a mass dissemination. However, the task to multiply those pilots and mainstream the “good practice” to become mass dissemination is a challenge where most approaches have failed so far. The paper reflects on the experiences gained in Indonesia during the up-scaling of DEWATS implementation by a community of practitioners. It shows the process of the development of “good practices” from a small number of applications to a “Quality Management System with internal certification” for large numbers of implementation packages. The main components of the system are:The Quality Management System for technical aspects of DEWATS planning and implementationThe Certification system for Human resources who occupy key positions in the implementation process of DEWATSThe Certification system for the implemented DEWATS service packagesThe organizational setup to maintain such a system. The paper describes each of those components as well as the challenges and lessons learned during its application.

An integrated management system encompasses all management and assessment activities. The organizational structure of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) quality management system is able to merge existing and future requirements. In this context the BfS management system encompasses quality management and radiation protection requirements as well as safety management, mining requirements and those of testing and calibration laboratories. Its structure allows the integration of function-specific management systems as well as specific requirements. The quality management system has taken into account the existing structure of documents to improve acceptability for the extended approach. Integrating management systems should enhance managerial and operational effectiveness. Whether or not this goal can or has been achieved is still a lingering question. A well-proven method to assess the effectiveness of any management system is auditing. Audits are designed to determine adequate compliance with applicable standards and guidelines. Moreover, they can and should be instrumental in identifying problem areas and potential improvements, along with corrective and preventive actions.

This research project was to investigate the motives for gaining an ISO 9001 certified quality management system in companies that serve the subsea sector of the oil and gas industries: is certification a strategic business tool or just a marketing badge? A literature review revealed that if implemented rigorously, ISO 9001 could deliver increased efficiency and improved business processes. Many authors stated that certification was gained principally to allow trading in the European and global markets, and, to gain entry to the Approved Vendors List of prospective customers. Primary research consisting of interviews with approximately 55 professionals across 12organisationsindicated that a majority agreed, stating that certification was gained for marketing purposes or to satisfy customer requirements. However many went on to say that their companies had subsequently realized the full benefits of ISO 9001. Therefore the motives for certification could be aligned. Secondary research also revealed that a number of firms operated an integrated management system. Findings of this project point to two conclusions. First, if ISO 9001 is implemented rigorously enough, companies can realize its benefits despite alternative reasons for gaining certification. Second, both motives for gaining certification can be aligned. This is a significant that is absent in the literature. All of the companies operating in this industry that were researched in this study had an ISO 9001 certified QMS. Because of the absence of publications on the use of ISO 9001 in the subsea sector of the oil and gas industries, further research into the possible alignment of the motives investigated in this project is warranted, and recommended. Additional areas for further research include integrated management systems rather than ISO 9001 quality management systems and limiting the scope of analysis to a current single subsea project, such as the Gorgon Project (Hatch 2013).

The scientific-practical basis of the quality of passenger and clientele service at the airport were studied. This was prompted by the need to determine the role of aviation safety (AS) and its impact on the quality and competitiveness of airport services. It was proved that within the framework of the system, quality monitoring is performed in the areas of the service of aviation safety (SAS). As a result of research, a quantitative assessment of the level of aviation safety of the airport, which is the basis for making a relevant management decision in the analysis subsystems, was determined. Management , in this case, implies the system of measures to improve the activities of the SAS. A procedure for assessing the quality of airport services, which reveals the essence of aviation safety in the system of airport quality management , was devised. The sequence of assessment of the system of aviation safety, reflecting the cost approach, the application of which involves determining the reserves for ensuring aviation safety in the continuous implementation of the quality management system, was proposed. The share of costs of aviation safety (AS) was determined on the example of three airports by economic elements (the model of criteria for choosing a subject) to determine the cost of ensuring an adequate level of aviation safety. It was proposed to introduce a comprehensive indicator of the quality of aviation safety for its functional components, which further makes up the integrated indicator of the quality of provided services. As a result of calculations, the amount of payment for aviation safety using adjustment coefficients to counteract the threat of a possible act of unlawful interference (AUI) will increase. This enables an aircraft company to form timely a reserve to prevent or eliminate the consequences of the AUI by including the aviation safety fee in the total cost of air transport services.

Although many cases of medical implants produced through additive manufacturing (AM) in Ti6Al4V have been reported in literature, most of these processes had not been qualified. To enable certification and commercialisation of medical implants and devices an ISO 13485:2016 quality management system was successfully implemented in the Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM) at the Central University of Technology, Free State in South Africa. This certification covers qualification of both design, development and production of patient specific custom made titanium implants, as well as preoperative models, jigs and cutting guides in nylon by means of AM and supports commercialisation. With this quality management system as framework for ensuring the reliability and repeatability of the AM performed at the CRPM, the generation of data to validate the individual processes in the AM process chain was pursued. Sufficient research data has been produced and published to prove that medical implants produced through AM can fully comply with the international standards for material, physical, chemical and mechanical properties. In this paper the research performed towards the qualification of AM of Ti6Al4V medical implants is discussed. Examples are given of internationally leading work on utilising these implants in maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgeries.
