Diplexer Overview

This chapter gives an overview of the microwave diplexer, starting with a background into the radio frequency and the microwave spectrums. The chapter also covers the aims and objectives of the book, the motivation, and the diplexer design method discussed in the book. A detailed literature review into the various diplexer design and implementation approaches is also detailed in this chapter. The chapter also looks at a number of transmission line technologies that have been utilised in the implementation of microwave diplexers including slotline, stripline, coplanar waveguide, microstrip, waveguide, and the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). The microstrip and the SIW implementations of the diplexer is reviewed in more detail, with numerous existing research examples. The chapter concludes by highlighting the emerging research and the opportunities in diplexer design introduced and established in the book.

Low-temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) was used for a novel band-pass filter design. The filter is based on metallic strips parallel to the E-plane and mounted in a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW). A new iterative technique based on the variation principle was used to obtain the inductive reactance of equivalent T-network of the metallic strip. The design method of the filter was derived by applying the equivalent network of the metallic strip to the usual method of the filter design. A set of curves relating the various filter parameters is introduced. This filter was designed such that it is electromagnetically isolated inside the SIW and excited using grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to SIW transitions; therefore, it can be easily integrated with MMICs. The design steps are explained and verified by examples and results. Three-dimensional electromagnetic field modeling and simulation was carried out using a high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). A comparison between different types of SIW is presented showing the resulting S-parameter curves for each case. By following the design steps, similar filters for various frequency bands using any dielectric material can be easily designed.

This paper presents the concept and the fundamental issues and the development on the environmental geotechnology in transmission lines foundation engineering. Namely, environmental geotechnology and theory is to study the restriction effects of environment on the transmission line routes, foundation selection and reliability, to predict the results of transmission line foundation construction on the environment, and to study on countermeasures of environmental protection in transmission foundation engineering. And then, from the above three aspects, the design method combined strength and displacement for tower foundation, the selection on foundation types and technical scheme for transmission line tower, and the countermeasures for soil and water conservation, the author introduces the development and practice of environmental geotechnology for transmission lines foundation engineering in China.
