The creation of complex structural elements of aircraft using is promising and is widely used since such elements have several structural and technological advantages over the manufacture of parts using classical technologies. However, it requires the solution of several scientific and technical problems to obtain products of high accuracy and roughness, the development of a technological process, the development of processing modes, and sometimes the development of a new design of products. For the development of technologies in modern rocketry, improving the quality and accuracy of the production of turbines of turbopump units, an important task is to search for new and improve existing technological solutions for the manufacture of such parts with high surface quality. The work aimed to analyze the existing processing methods for parts of turbopump units with complex geometry and select the most technologically advanced one for further use in technological processes. The objective of this article is an analytical review of existing methods of surface treatment of critical parts and the selection of the most technologically advanced method for finishing the blades of a closed-type turbine (with a shroud) to reduce the roughness and improve the quality of the working surface. The object of the research is the process of machining a segment of a turbine impeller made of Inconel 718 nickel alloy (domestic analog – alloy HN45MVTJuBR), which is a key element of a turbopump unit. The blank part of the turbine monowheel type was made using 3D printing technology. As a result of the work, the optimal processing method was chosen, namely, the DryLyte dry electrochemical polishing technology, which has quite significant advantages in comparison with illogical methods. This method has been tested experimentally and is being actively implemented abroad. To introduce this DryLyte technology, it is necessary to carry out additional experiments on finishing the inner channels of small size (24 mm) using the example of interscapular channels of turbines, which will make it possible to fully assess the capabilities of the technology.

This article discusses the relationship between the kinematic system used in drilling and the quality of through-holes. The drilling was done on a CTX Alpha 500 universal turning center using a TiAlN-coated 6.0 mm drill bit with internal cooling, mounted in a driven tool holder. The holes were cut in cylindrical 42CrMo4 + QT steel samples measuring 30 mm in diameter and 30 mm in length. Three types of hole-drilling kinematic systems were considered. The first consisted of a fixed workpiece and a tool performing rotary (primary) and linear motions. In the second system, the workpiece rotated (primary motion) while the tool moved linearly. In the third system, the workpiece and the tool rotated in opposite directions; the tool also moved linearly. The analysis was carried out for four output parameters characterizing the hole quality (i.e., cylindricity, straightness, roundness, and diameter errors). The experiment was designed using the Taguchi approach (orthogonal array). ANOVA multi-factor statistical analysis was used to determine the influence of the input parameters (cutting speed, feed per revolution and type of kinematic system) on the geometrical and dimensional errors of the hole. From the analysis, it is evident that the kinematic system had a significant effect on the hole roundness error.

Current reverse engineering systems can generate boundary representation (B-rep) models from 3D range data. Such models suffer from inaccuracies caused by noise in the input data and algorithms. The quality of reverse engineered geometric models can be improved by finding candidate shape regularities in such a model, and constraining the model to meet a suitable subset of them, in a post-processing step called beautification. This paper discusses algorithms to detect such approximate regularities in terms of similarities between feature objects describing properties of faces, edges and vertices, and small groups of these elements in a B-rep model with only planar, spherical, cylindrical, conical and toroidal faces. For each group of similar feature objects they also seek special feature objects which may represent the group, e.g. an integer value which approximates the radius of similar cylinders. Experiments show that the regularities found by the algorithms include the desired regularities as well as spurious regularities, which can be limited by an appropriate choice of tolerances.

ObjectiveTo assess the reliability and usefulness of an EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) for patients with advanced amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who used it independently at home for up to 18 months.MethodsOf 42 patients consented, 39 (93%) met the study criteria, and 37 (88%) were assessed for use of the Wadsworth BCI. Nine (21%) could not use the BCI. Of the other 28, 27 (men, age 28–79 years) (64%) had the BCI placed in their homes, and they and their caregivers were trained to use it. Use data were collected by Internet. Periodic visits evaluated BCI benefit and burden and quality of life.ResultsOver subsequent months, 12 (29% of the original 42) left the study because of death or rapid disease progression and 6 (14%) left because of decreased interest. Fourteen (33%) completed training and used the BCI independently, mainly for communication. Technical problems were rare. Patient and caregiver ratings indicated that BCI benefit exceeded burden. Quality of life remained stable. Of those not lost to the disease, half completed the study; all but 1 patient kept the BCI for further use.ConclusionThe Wadsworth BCI home system can function reliably and usefully when operated by patients in their homes. BCIs that support communication are at present most suitable for people who are severely disabled but are otherwise in stable health. Improvements in BCI convenience and performance, including some now underway, should increase the number of people who find them useful and the extent to which they are used.

PurposeFrom the cataloging librarians' point of view, this paper aims to present how technical services, especially the cataloging department, can play important roles in the improvement of user services.Design/methodology/approachThe paper examines the practices of the University of Oklahoma Libraries.FindingsThe paper identifies several aspects in which technical services can enhance the quality of user services, especially in the cataloging department. A library's online catalog becomes the first point of access to the library's information resources. Its quality can be improved and enriched in many ways to raise users’ satisfaction. Aside from the improvement in technical aspects, efforts should also be made to promote collaboration between technical and public services so as to ensure efficient processing of materials and to meet the needs of library users.Originality/valueThe value of the paper is in showing that the quality of an online catalog and the cooperation between public and technical services are two of the key factors in achieving high quality of user services.

In this article, it mainly describes the use of extrusion production process as an example of the special shaft. It gives us a full analysis from the structure of the product, the material problems, the key technical problems needed to be solved, blank preparation processing and the process of extrusion forming. It also introduces the blank dimensions and the calculation method of the extrusion pressure. The method of blank lubrication processing and the process of designing extrusion mould. We are not unfamiliar with the center shaft of the bike. It is one of the important parts in bicycle bottom bracket. It is also a key part to determine the quality of the bicycle. Generally speaking, materials are used is 20 steel. The roughness of the surface is moderate. But the requirement of the product precision is high. We can get it by using mechanical processing method. But it is processing and the efficiency is low. While the utilization rate of mental material is low. So the production costs high. Because the parts production patch is large and the annual production is hundreds of thousands of pieces. In my opinion, it is more reasonable for us to adopt the technology of producing the parts with the cold extrusion precision molding process. Then we can save the materials, improve the efficiency of producing parts, lower the production parts and then meet the requirement of mass production.

The measuring of rendered services in any industry, especially in libraries, remains a critical tool to assess the satisfaction level of clients as well as the quality of the services. This article reports on a study that was undertaken to measure the quality of internet access service to South African public libraries by using the service quality model. The paper was guided by these objectives to identify the service quality models applicable to public libraries’ internet access; to determine how the quality of internet access service fits within the South African broadband policy; and to apply service quality dimensions to public libraries’ internet access. The study employed a quantitative approach and survey design in which a questionnaire was used to collect data from 322 heads of public libraries in South Africa. The stratified sampling method was used to obtain a proportional representation of public libraries. It emerged that most respondents regarded their internet service providers (ISPs) as incapable of solving their technical problems. It was further found that in most cases ISPs applied the internet access policies inconsistently to public libraries they served. The study recommended, among others, that internet connectivity to public libraries be centralised and that a competent provider be appointed to manage this service.
