AC/TiO2 composite particles were prepared by sol-gel method in normal temperature. Three kinds of particles were obtained by adding Phytic Acid (ab. PA), Benzoyltrifluoroacetone (ab. BTA) and SnCl4 during the preparation. The photo catalytic activity and adsorptive capability of different particles were compared. Raman analysis showed TiO2 grain on the surface of the AC carrier was anatase. FE-SEM photos showed particles with PA were homogeneously coated by TiO2, but more fine TiO2 particles were formed with BTA. The results showed that the adding of PA and BTA helped to get fine grains. The degradation ratio of the TNT solution showed that the photo catalyses activity and adsorptive capability of all composite particles were higher than that of single AC, and the accumulated degradation ratio of TNT solution reached 99.3 % (repeated by 20 times). The degradation of single AC to TNT solution is thought mainly by physical adsorption, but for other composite particles the degradation is by both of the adsorption and photo catalysis. The interface between AC carrier and TiO2 crystal may be affected by PA or BTA, and helping to form synergic effect of AC and TiO2.

The advantage of doping of TiO2 with copper has been utilized for enhanced degradation of pesticide under visible light irradiation. The sol–gel method has been undertaken for the synthesis of copper-doped TiO2 by varying the dopant loadings from 0.25 wt.% to 1.0 wt.% of Cu2+ . The doped samples were characterized by UV-Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS), N2 adsorption–desorption (BET), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS). The photocatalytic activity of the catalyst was tested by degradation of dichlorvos under visible light illumination. The results found that 0.75 wt.% of Cu2+ doped nanocatalysts have better photo catalytic activity than the rest of percentages doped, undoped TiO2 and Degussa P25. The reduction of band gap was estimated and the influence of the process parameters on photo catalytic activity of the catalyst has been explained.

The Mg-doped TiO2 was prepared by Sol-gel method at low temperature. The crystallization of TiO2 was studied by DTA, it was shown that the phase transition temperature of the Mg (NO3)2-doped TiO2 from amorphous to anatase and then to rutile significantly reduce. The XRD results show that the Mg-doped TiO2 has anatase and rutile annealed at 600 °C. Studies of photo-catalytic degradation show that the photo-catalytic activity of Mg-doped TiO2 thin film is higher than that of non-doped TiO2.

Photocatalytically active TiO2 and silica doped TiO2(Si-TiO2) synthesised using an aqueous sol-gel method and is characterised by particle size analysis, XRD, diffuse reflectance spectra and BET measurements. The photocatalytic analysis using methylene blue proved that the Si-TiO2possesses higher activity than pure TiO2. This Si-TiO2having higher photo-catalytic activity was incorporated into white portland cement and this modified cement exhibited photo-catalytic activity as evaluated by using methylene blue degradation experiments. This novel work is considered to be useful for further development of self-cleaning cements. Moreover silica doped to TiO2improved surface area and thermal stability of anatase TiO2significantly. At 800оC, 100 percentage anatase phase was obtained for Si-TiO2whereas pure TiO2showed 100 percentage rutile phase at the same temperature and surface aera of the Si-TiO2was 93 m2/g while pure TiO2showed only 2 m2/g.

In this paper the Li+, Sb3+-doped SiO2-TiO2 thin films, which were heat-treated with an applied electric field, were prepared by sol-gel dip coating. The crystallization of the thin films in the electric field heating-treatment was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The photo-catalytic activity of SiO2-TiO2 films was studied under the condition of an electric field heating-treatment and mixing with some additive such as Li+ and Sb3+. Finally, studies on photo-catalytic degradation showed that the Li+, Sb3+-doped SiO2-TiO2 films on the quartz glass, of high photo-catalytic activity, were successfully obtained in the electric field heating-treatment.
