The Need of End-of-Life Vehicles Management System in Malaysia

This paper presents rationality behind the establishment of an ELVs management system in Malaysia, in relation with the development of automotive industry in this country. Upon reviews on latest publications, there are currently three conditions of ELVs treated in Malaysia which are used on road, left abandoned and dumped at landfill. These improper treatment and management of ELVs certainly will give negative effects to the country, which are explained in environment, economic and social aspects. Subsequently, a survey will be conducted to obtain estimated percentage of each ELV condition, and the survey results will be the basis towards establishing an ELVs management system in Malaysia.

There are few activities so susceptible to the impacts of the macro environment as tourism. In conditions of growing uncertainty, the importance of strategic management is steadily increasing. By studying the environment, by anticipating the future development and implication of trends on enterprises, and by developing appropriate strategies at a number of levels, strategic management seeks to actively influence the increase o f competitive advantages o f both the tourist destinations and tourist enterprises. The term “strategic management” implies a set of management decisions and actions that determine the long-term operations o f enterprises within the management system of tourism: guiding the enterprise by anticipating crucial environmental impacts and internal factors. This management concept is based on the assumption that making properly oriented strategic decisions minimizes the negative effects of the environment and creates strategic advantages for enterprises that can be capitalised only in the medium and long term (Čizmar S. (2001) Strateško upravljanje u funkciji učinkovitog razvoja turističkog ugostiteljstva u Hrvatskoj, doctoral dissertation, University o f Zagreb, Faculty of Economics, Zagreb, p. 3). It represents an integrated approach to strategic management that is the most acceptable for the development of Croatian tourism, as long-term positive results, in both market and financial terms, can be achieved by enterprises within the tourism management system of Croatia only by applying an integrated approach to strategic management, by horizontally and vertically linking the elements of all subsystems of the entire management system and by creating partnering relationships. The Croatian model of strategic management should involve the economic optimisation of all subsystems and systems by establishing efficiency not only across all subsystem elements, but through the system as a whole as well. The level of growth in entrepreneurship and innovations will determine the intensity and speed of positive development changes. These changes will also depend on establishing management responsibilities throughout all segments and managements levels of all subsystems, as well as tourism as an integral system. This paper deals with the issues of strategic management at a micro level with special emphasis on the development of responsibility for managing performance and capital investments.

Dieser Fachartikel geht auf die negativen Auswirkungen technischer Nebenzeiten für die Effizienz von Produktionsprozessen in der automobilen Großserienproduktion ein. Er zeigt in der Übersicht, welche Methoden sich zur Erfassung technischer Nebenzeiten eignen und welche Vor- und Nachteile sie besitzen. Nur mit diesen Erfassungsmethoden lässt sich eine effektive Minimierung von technischen Nebenzeiten erreichen. Anschließend wird ein dreistufiges Analyseverfahren präsentiert.   This article discusses the negative effects of non-productive times on the efficiency of production processes in automotive mass production. An overview shows which methods are suitable for the recording of non-productive times and their advantages and disadvantages. These recording methods are essential for the effective minimization of non-productive times. Subsequently, an analysis method, which is composed of three steps, is presented.

Abstract This paper builds on previous research to address the question of whether there is practical value for a made-in-Ontario municipal management system standard (MSS) for wastewater and stormwater related activities, in addition to the Drinking Water Quality Management System Standard (DWQMS) that is already statutorily required. This research specifically addressed the questions: is there value in a mandatory or voluntary MSS; are there neutral, positive, or negative effects of having an MSS; and what standard is more adequate? Through a focus group method, this research finds evidence in support of and wide recognition of the practical value an MSS in assisting municipalities in meeting their environmental objectives, addressing property damage risks, providing an additional mechanism of public accountability, and improving alignment with the legal structure. It was also apparent that there is no political appetite in the provincial government to embark on a mandated MSS, so the preferred option at this time appears to be a provincially endorsed, voluntary, sector-specific standard for wastewater and for stormwater, which could constitute a catalyst to boost voluntary uptake of MSS by small to medium municipalities (as is already occurring with large municipalities). This standard could be based on a customized variation of the ISO 14001 and DWQMS.

This is an exploratory study to document the demographic characteristics, backgrounds, and services provided by trained and certified INELDA end-of-life doulas. Like birth doulas, end-of-life doulas represent a divergent, yet complementary form of care for dying persons. The purpose of end-of-life care is to facilitate comfort of the dying person and their closest family members. Surveys were completed by 618 end-of-life doulas regarding their demographic characteristics, employment backgrounds, services, and their experiences providing end of life care to dying persons and their closest family members. Follow-up qualitative interviews were also conducted with a subset of 39 respondents who completed the original survey. Results show that trained doulas are largely white (91.4%), female (90.4%), hold a Bachelor’s (32.3%) or Masters (32.4%) degree, and are employed outside of their EOLD work (70.1%). Qualitative data details services provided to dying persons and family members in addition to the benefits and challenges of working with traditional healthcare settings.

Abstract Medicine often views hospice care as “giving up,” which results in a reduced quality of end-of-life care for many patients. By integrating a theology of the Sabbath with modern medicine, hospice becomes a sacred and valuable way to honor the dying patient in a comprehensive and holistic way. A theology of Sabbath as “Sacredness in Time” can provide the foundation for a shift in understanding hospice as a legitimate care plan, which shifts the focus from controlling and manipulating space for the body, to rest and enjoyment of time for the whole person. First, I explore vitalism and its negative effects on the institution of hospice. Second, I address the main misconceptions and biases surrounding hospice in order to establish hospice as an appropriate option for the terminally ill. Finally, I argue for a shift away from sacredness in space (as seen in vitalism) to sacredness in time.

As the enhancement of the economic level in our country, the quantity of motor vehicles and the end-of-life vehicles grows fast. The recycling of the end-of-life vehicle is the basic element for the sustainable development in automobile industry. At the same time, the disassembling of the end-of-life vehicle is an important link in the development of the automobile recycle economy and also an important mean to the resource recycling. So, a scientific and rational management system in vehicle disassembling can have a positive effect in building a resource conservation and environment friendly society. At present, many problems in motor vehicle recycling and disassembling have already restricted the development of the industry. Through the investigation of the present status of the end-of-life vehicle recycling and disassembling enterprise in Jiangsu province, the reason of those problems is analyzed, the method to solve those problems is discussed and put forward, and a new management system in motor vehicle recycling and disassembling is built. The research can provide instruction meaning and reference value to all the end-of-life vehicle recycling and disassembling enterprises.
