Due to shrinking budgets for conservation and an increase in the number of government and privately owned parks, it has become very important for parks to determine who the tourists are who visit one of South Africa’s top tourist attractions. The reason for this is that park management and marketers need to focus their efforts to optimise their limited resources. This can only be done once there is a clear understanding of who the market is, where they come from and what they expect. The literature study clearly showed that market segmentation is essential for the effective marketing of a tourism product or destination. Two surveys were conducted, one in 2001 and a follow-up study in 2002, profiling tourists to the Kruger National Park. Different months were chosen to conduct the two surveys in order to get a more comprehensive profile of tourists visiting the park in different seasons.

AbstractThis research was conducted based on the state of tourism in Karampuang Island and the developments that have been carried out. The issue of nature preservation encourages the author to study the development of Karampuang tourism products based on the principles of marine ecotourism. The purpose of this study is to identify the extent to which the principles of marine ecotourism are applied in the business and development program of Karampuang tourism products which include accessibility, tourist attractions and tourist facilities. Furthermore, it is hoped that development aspects that have not applied the principles of marine ecotourism can become the focus of attention for their development programs. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that seeks to describe the state of tourism in Karampuang as it is. Data were collected by participatory observation, interviews, literature study, and related document studies. Data were analyzed directly with the stages a) reduction, b) serving, and c) verification. After going through these stages, the data is then interpreted to get a final conclusion. The results of this study indicate that broadly speaking, the Karampuang tourism product development program and business have used the principle of marine ecotourism as a reference in order to preserve nature which will ultimately create sustainable tourism. However, there are several aspects that can be improved in terms of the application of the principles of marine ecotourism in the development or management of tourism in Karampuang Island. Meanwhile, this research has practical implications for Karampuang tourism managers as a basis for developing tourism products based on the principles of marine ecotourism for the realization of sustainable tourism in the future.

Motivation is an impulse that arises in someone to do something based on the needs of itself to achieve a certain goal. One of the tourist attractions that can be done and favored by tourists, especially foreign tourists, is trekking. However, the attraction of trekking in Bukit Lawang still cannot attract foreign tourist visits to visit Bukit Lawang, which is marked by a decrease in tourist visit data to Bukit Lawang. The study was conducted at Bukit Lawang Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The method used in this research is descriptive method. Data collection techniques carried out in this study was observation, literature study, and questionnaire. Based on observations and data management showed that the manager of Bukit Lawang in packing a trekking tour package was still less than the variation / diversity of trekking activities starting from adding trekking routes and variations in duration of trekking packages, so that the motivational factors of tourists in carrying out trekking activities both pull and push factor owned by tourists are not too high. Six major rivers flow through the Kruger National Park (KNP). All these rivers originate outside and to the west of the KNP and are highly utilized. They are crucially important for the conservation of the unique natural environments of the KNP. The human population growth in the Lowveld during the past two decades brought with it the rapid expansion of irrigation farming, exotic afforestation and land grazed by domestic stock, as well as the establishment of large towns, mines, dams and industries. Along with these developments came overgrazing, erosion, over-utilization and pollution of rivers, as well as clearing of indigenous forests from large areas outside the borders of the KNP. Over-utilization of the rivers which ultimately flow through the KNP poses one of the most serious challenges to the KNP's management. This paper gives the background to the development in the catchments and highlights the problems which these have caused for the KNP. Management actions which have been taken as well as their results are discussed and solutions to certain problems proposed. Three rivers, namely the Letaba, Olifants and Sabie are respectively described as examples of an over-utilized river, a polluted river and a river which is still in a fairly good condition.

Abstract As agricultural areas expand, interactions between wild animals and farmland are increasing. Understanding the nature of such interactions is vital to inform the management of human–wildlife coexistence. We investigated patterns of space use of two Critically Endangered Galapagos tortoise species, Chelonoidis porteri and Chelonoidis donfaustoi, on privately owned and agricultural land (hereafter farms) on Santa Cruz Island, where a human–wildlife conflict is emerging. We used GPS data from 45 tortoises tracked for up to 9 years, and data on farm characteristics, to identify factors that influence tortoise movement and habitat use in the agricultural zone. Sixty-nine per cent of tagged tortoises used the agricultural zone, where they remained for a mean of 150 days before returning to the national park. Large male tortoises were more likely to use farms for longer periods than female and smaller individuals. Tortoises were philopatric (mean overlap of farmland visits = 88.7 ± SE 2.9%), on average visiting four farms and occupying a mean seasonal range of 2.9 ± SE 0.3 ha. We discuss the characteristics of farm use by tortoises, and its implications for tortoise conservation and coexistence with people.
