INTERDEPENDENCE OF PERSONALITY HARDINESS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPITAL

The purpose of the study was to identify the interdependence of the process of hardiness and psychological capital of the individual. The hardiness of the individual is considered as the main resource for turning life events into new opportunities and experience, despite the external pressure. The concept of psychological capital has relatively recently come into use. It expresses the general resource state of a person and is formulated as a property that makes it possible to evaluate one's achievements in life, and one’s potential. The article analyzes the theories of the personality hardiness and psychological capital in foreign and domestic psychological science and the relationship of a number of similar concepts and phenomena in it; the main components, characteristic features and the main signs of their interdependence. The conclusion drawn is based on the data of theoretical analysis and experimental research of the properties of personality and psychological capital. The experimental study covered individuals aged 19 to 25 (N=35). In the course of the study, two methods were used: "Hardiness test" (S. Maddi) and the test "Psychological capital" (F. Luthans). It was found that the basis of the interdependence between the components of hardiness and psychological capital are the following distinctive features – the relationship between "commitment" and "self-efficacy", the relationship between "commitment" and "optimism", the relationship between" control "and "self-esteem", the relationship between "challenge" and "self-esteem".

Self-esteem is central to personal education. The social environment directly affects the formation of self-esteem. While functioning, it affects human behavior, self-regulation and is influenced by the values of the individual. Self-esteem is a complex education that includes both intellectual and emotional components. Many experts believe that self-esteem is not only a person's assessment of himself, but also his place among the people around him. Accordingly, it affects the relationship of a person with others, the effectiveness of his activities and the further development of the personality.

The relationship of the individual and the general in the actualization of cognitive activity of students is considered. Single, special and universal are not knowledge isolated from each other, but represent various aspects of the general, the whole. Moreover, the general - the whole should not be perceived without the unit, as the unit is inconceivable without connection with the general. Given all this, a methodology has been developed for updating the cognitive activity of students to an active perception of the material studied, which boils down to the implementation of analytical and synthetic cognitive operations. The methodological implementation of it in each individual case depends on many other components: the difficulty of the posing problem, its relationship with other provisions, its characteristic features, the preparedness of the class to solve complex issues in this way, the teacher’s ability to carry out this cognitive process in each individual case. Examples of the developed methodology in the classroom, confronts students with problematic issues, for the solution of which they are trying to apply actions that contribute to the disclosure of the content of the problem, are looking for ways to implement it, which in turn actualizes their cognitive activity

The specifics of the diary as a genre of literature is considered. An attempt is made to understand the genre nature of the diary and identify the characteristic features of its narrative structure. Turning to the diary entries of Bakhyt Kairbekov, we analyze the subspecies of the diary as a genre and pose the question of the intertextual specifics of the poet’s diaries. We reveal such characteristic features of the narrative structure of diaries as chronology, dating, aphorism, dialogics, evaluation. It is proved that the specific form of the diary is one of the individual style of a artistic person who realizes his abilities in various fields of artistic work. We establish that the diary form of writing is characterized by a number of features that can be implemented to a greater or lesser extent in each diary: 1) the frequency, regularity of recordings; 2) the relationship of records with current, and not with long-past events; 3) the spontaneous nature of the records; 4) literary rawness of records; 5) addresslessness or uncertainty of the addressee; 6) the intimate and therefore sincere, private nature of the notes.

The purpose of this study that focused on African American high school girls was threefold. First, the relationship of sports participation and victimization was explored. Second, the impact of sports participation on self-esteem was assessed. Third, the role of self-esteem and its disaggregated components (social acceptance, competence, and self-confidence) as mediators of the relationship between sports participation and victimization was examined. In accordance with the sport protection hypothesis, it was hypothesized that sports participation would be related to enhanced self-esteem and reduce victimization. Results suggest that sports participation appears to have some relationship to lower rates of victimization. There was also support for our assertion that sports participation was related to enhanced self-esteem. Finally, overall self-esteem and, specifically, the individual component competence mediated the relationship between sports participation and victimization.

Abstract. Background: Self-esteem is a major contributor to risk for repeated suicide attempts. Prior research has shown that awareness of stigma is associated with reduced self-esteem among people with mental illness. No prior studies have examined the association between self-esteem and stereotype awareness among individuals with past suicide attempts. Aims: To understand the relationship between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among young adults who have and have not attempted suicide. Method: Computerized surveys were administered to college students (N = 637). Linear regression analyses were used to test associations between self-esteem and stereotype awareness, attempt history, and their interaction. Results: There was a significant stereotype awareness by attempt interaction (β = –.74, p = .006) in the regression analysis. The interaction was explained by a stronger negative association between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among individuals with past suicide attempts (β = –.50, p = .013) compared with those without attempts (β = –.09, p = .037). Conclusion: Stigma is associated with lower self-esteem within this high-functioning sample of young adults with histories of suicide attempts. Alleviating the impact of stigma at the individual (clinical) or community (public health) levels may improve self-esteem among this high-risk population, which could potentially influence subsequent suicide risk.

Summary: The Gudjonsson Compliance Scale (GCS), the COPE Scale, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were administered to 212 men and 212 women. Multiple regression of the test scores showed that low self-esteem and denial coping were the best predictors of compliance in both men and women. Significant sex differences emerged on all three scales, with women having lower self-esteem than men, being more compliant, and using different coping strategies when confronted with a stressful situation. The sex difference in compliance was mediated by differences in self-esteem between men and women.

The book’s epilogue explores the place of musical portraiture in the context of posthumous depictions of the deceased, and in relation to the so-called posthuman condition, which describes contemporary changes in the relationship of the individual with such aspects of life as technology and the body. It first examines Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo to view how Bernard Herrmann’s score relates to issues of portraiture and the depiction of the identity of the deceased. It then considers the work of cyborg composer-artist Neil Harbisson, who has aimed, through the use of new capabilities of hybridity between the body and technology, to convey something akin to visual likeness in his series of Sound Portraits. The epilogue shows how an examination of contemporary views of posthumous and posthuman identities helps to illuminate the ways music represents the self throughout the genre of musical portraiture.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether problematic social networking site (SNS) use (i.e., degree of dependent relationship with SNSs), total SNS time/day, total SNS friends, and specific SNS activities were related to body image (BI), self-esteem (SE), and eating disorder (ED) symptoms/concerns. A sample of young adults ( N = 147) completed an online survey which measured SNS usage, problematic SNS use, BI, SE, and ED symptom/concerns. The findings revealed that females and males spent 4.1 ± 3.9 and 2.9 ± 2.8 hr on SNS, respectively, with the majority of time spent lurking (i.e., looking at another users’ profile but not actually communicating with them). Furthermore, problematic SNS use was found to be related to BI, SE, and ED symptoms/concerns. Moreover, SNS activities, such as lurking and posting comments on others’ profiles, were found to be related to BI, whereas SNS total time was found to be related to ED symptoms/concerns. Overall, this study demonstrates the possible correlational influence of SNSs on BI, SE, and ED symptoms/concerns.
