Effectiveness of Information booklet on knowledge regarding Hypertension and Supplementation of beetroot juice among hypertensive patients in a selected Hospital Mangaluru

Hypertension (HTN) is an enormous health problem and is one of the biggest health challenges in the 21st century. Effective management in hypertension requires a multi-sectorial approach. Dietary management plays a vital role in managing blood pressure especially beetroot juice which contains nitrates helps in vasodilation thus reducing hypertension. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding hypertension and supplementation of beetroot juice among hypertensive patients and To find the association between mean pre-test knowledge score about hypertension and supplementation of beet root juice with the selected demographic variables. A pre-experimental one group, pre-test post-test design was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 30 hypertensive patients. The investigator assessed the knowledge regarding HTN and supplementation of beetroot juice in managing hypertension using structured knowledge questionnaire and then the information booklet was administered to the subjects. The collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean post-test knowledge score (x2=23.87) was higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (x1=17.40). The mean difference between post-test and pre-test knowledge score was highly significant. The obtained ‘t’ value (11.75) is higher than the table value (t29=1.70 at p<0.05 level significance). There was no significant association between knowledge score and selected demographic variables like age, gender, religion, education, occupation, income, and duration of illness. (2=2.143, 2=0.536, 2=0.000, 2=0.536, 2=2.143, 2=0.133, 2=0.536). Hence it can be concluded that information booklet is an effective strategy for providing information and improving the knowledge of adult hypertensive patients.

Background: Puerperal sepsis is a postpartum complication, occurs when a recently delivered mother gets an infection while giving birth due to unhygienic practices and poor quality healthcare. If not treated properly in time may lead to death. Lack of awareness among healthcare providers can lead to higher rates of infection. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding puerperal sepsis and its prevention among nurses working in selected hospitals of Kamrup (M), Assam. Methods: The pre experimental one group pre-test post-test research designed was adopted in the study. 100 nurses were selected as sample by using convenience sampling technique in selected hospitals of Kamrup (M), Assam. To assess the nurses’ knowledge regarding puerperal sepsis and its prevention structured knowledge questionnaire was used. Results: In pre-test, the mean knowledge score was 11.76 with standard deviation 2.90. In post-test, the mean knowledge score was 19.81 with standard deviation 1.96. The calculated paired t test value of t = 33.352 was found to be statistically significant at p<0.001. Hence, information booklet on puerperal sepsis was found to be effective in improving the knowledge regarding puerperal sepsis and its prevention. There was significant association between pre-test knowledge regarding puerperal sepsis and its prevention and educational qualification. Conclusions: Majority of the nurses gained knowledge after referring the information booklet. Hence, awareness program in regular period will help in improving knowledge regarding puerperal sepsis among nurses to provide quality health care for a healthy society. A pre-experimental study to assess effectiveness of folk media on the knowledge and perception regarding Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY among selected population of U.P. was conducted with the objective to assess the effectiveness of folk media on the knowledge and perception regarding Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY among selected population of U.P. Pre experimental research design was adopted and non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample. A structured questionnaire of 25 questions and perception likert scale of 10 items was prepared to assess the knowledge and perception of population regarding Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY. A structured knowledge questionnaire and structured perception scale on Ayushman Bharat -PMJAY (pre-test) was administered to the group, followed by administration of folk media on the Day-1. Then on Day-7, post-test was conducted. Data obtained were analyzed and interpreted by using both descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequency, percentages, mean, and S.D. score. Findings showed that: majority of population i.e. 47 (78.33%) were having good knowledge whereas 12 of these samples (20%) were having excellent knowledge and 1 of these samples were having poor knowledge. It was evident from the results that the mean post-test knowledge and practice score were more than mean pre-test scores. Findings showed that folk media was effective to gain knowledge and favorable perception regarding Ayushman Bharat -PMJAY. majority of samples i.e. 48 (40%) were having favorable perception and only 12(60%) samples were having neutral perception. The calculated Z value (2.10) for knowledge and the calculated Z value (4.06) for perception is greater than the tabulated Z value (1.645) at 0.05 level of significance at (df =59) which concluded that the Folk Media was effective in improving the knowledge and perception towards Ayushman Bharat -PMJAY among selected population of U.P.Chi square test was done showed that there was significant association between the mean post-test knowledge score with selected demographic variables. It was also showed that there was a significant association between the mean post-test perception score with selected demographic variables. The Karl Pearson coefficient of correlation was computed (r = 0.19) which indicate no relationship between the knowledge post-test scores and perception post-test scores regarding Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY among selected population of U.P.

AbstractThe study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of an information booklet on knowledge regarding the importance of birth spacing among primi para mothers from 01.08.2011 to 31.10.2011. An evaluative approach with one group pre test post test design was used for the study. 60 samples were selected using purposive sampling method. The present study was conducted in Justice K.S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangalore. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Distribution of primipara mothers according to their level of knowledge showed that 49 (81.7%) had poor knowledge score [score range 0-12], 11(18.3%) had average knowledge [score range 13-25] and none of them had good knowledge [score range 26-37]. The Mean knowledge score in the pre-test was 7.96 which had increased after administration of the information booklet, with mean knowledge score in the post-test by 31.15. A significant difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge was found (t=28.945, P < 0.05) among the primi para mothers by providing an information booklet. There was significant association between the level of knowledge and demographic variables such as educational status, income and previous knowledge.

Aim: to assess the effectiveness of a comprehensive educational package on knowledge regarding promotion of health and prevention of complications among hypertensive patients. Objectives: (i) To assess the pre and post test level of knowledge regarding promotion of health and prevention of complications among hypertensive patients. (ii) To evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive educational package on knowledge regarding promotion of health and prevention of complications among hypertensive patients. (iii) To find out the association between the post test level of knowledge on the promotion of health and prevention of complications with selected socio-demographic variables of patients with hypertension. Methodology: A Pre experimental research design was carried out in this study. 60 samples were selected by using non-probability purposive sampling technique. The pre and post test level of knowledge was assessed by using structured knowledge questionnaires. Results: The pre test mean was 11.5 with a standard deviation of 3.24 and the post test mean was 24.37 with a standard deviation of 2.98. The mean difference of pre and post test is 12.87; standard error is 0.29. The ‘T’ value is 44.37 is Highly Significant at p<0.05 it indicates that the knowledge level of hypertensive patients regarding promotion of health and prevention of complications was increased after the comprehensive educational package. Conclusion: The study concluded that the level of knowledge among hypertensive patients is increased after giving a comprehensive educational package and it proved that a comprehensive educational package increases the level of knowledge. A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding text neck syndrome among young adults in a selected college at Alappuzha District. The objectives of the study were to assess the mean knowledge score regarding text neck syndrome among young adults, to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding text neck syndrome among young adults and to find out the association between pretest knowledge score and selected socio demographic variables. The Conceptual framework was based on Nola J Pender’s Health Promotion model (1982). The study was conducted at Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara. among 60 young adults, who were selected by disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. The pretest level of knowledge was assessed using structured knowledge questionnaire and structured teaching programme was given. Posttest was conducted after 7days.The result showed that the mean posttest knowledge score 20.26 with SD 3.15 was significantly higher than the pretest mean score 8.43 with SD 2.48 with a mean difference of 11.83. Since the calculated ‛t’ value 35.45 which was greater than the table value (2.00) with degree of freedom 59 at p<0.05 level of significance. Hence the study revealed that structured teaching programme on text neck syndrome was effective in improving the knowledge of young adults. The association between pretest and selected socio demographic variables showed that the pretest knowledge scores was influenced by year of study (p<0.05), family monthly income (p<0.05) and source of information (p<0.05).

Introduction: Self-medication is an old practice and may be defined as drug acquisition and consumption without physician’s advice either for diagnosis, prescription, or treatment monitoring. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge and side-effects regarding self-medication among adolescents. Materials and Methods: The present study with pre and post-test design was conducted on 70 adolescents selected from Wardha, Maharashtra, India. The adolescents were selected based on non probability convenient sampling technique. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data. Paired t-test was used to compute the mean, Standard Deviation (SD) and mean percentages. The unpaired t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to associate the demographic variables with level of knowledge. Results: Majority of the subjects were in the age group of 17 years and were females. Pre-test mean score was 10.91 and post-test mean score was 9.03. The effectiveness of the self-instructional modules on the knowledge regarding side-effects of self-medication was statistically significant (p=0.034). Conclusion: The current study revealed that a self-instructional module as a teaching on side-effects of self-medication effectively improved the knowledge level of adolescents.

Background: Breast engorgement is a major issue in the early postpartum period under the influence of hormonal shift and increase milk production. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevention, recognition and management of breast engorgement.Methods: Quasi Experimental, quantitative study conducted in AIMS, Kochi among sixty mothers by Convenience sampling technique. The design used was pre-test post-test control group design. A semi structured knowledge questionnaire, Bristol Breastfeeding Assessment Tool and an Observational checklist were used to collect the data. Prenatal teaching provided to the Experimental group.Results: The mean pre-test knowledge level of control group was 9.83 and the post-test knowledge was 10.03. In the Experimental group, the mean pre-test level was 10.20 and the post-test level is 20.76. The ‘t’ value of control group was 0.71 and that of Experimental group was 12.83 which was highly significant at 0.001 level. There was a significant increase in knowledge score in Experimental group. Comparing the breastfeeding practices regarding positioning and attachment in both groups, showed a significant difference at the level of 0.001 but other two aspects, sucking and swallowing were not significant. Comparing the incidence, 13.3% mothers reported in experimental group whereas 63.3% in the control group, which showed a remarkable decrease in the incidence of breast engorgement in the former group.Conclusions: The prenatal teaching was effective in improving the health of mothers as well as practices of breastfeeding and it helped in reduction of the incidence of breast engorgement.

Background: Child abuse is a significant global problem with a serious impact on the victims throughout their lives. According to WHO (2013) which estimates that the international level of prevalence in child abuse and neglect was approximately 50500 children were at the risk of abuse right now. Objectives of the study was to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program regarding child abuse.Methods: Research design was quasi experimental one group pre-test-post-test design used & setting was selected rural areas of Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, UP. Samples 73 mothers were selected by purposive sampling technique. Tools were used as self-structured knowledge questionnaire.Results: Revealed that the mean score of the pre-test knowledge was 10.42 with SD of 1.95 whereas the mean score of the post-test knowledge score was 17.61 and SD was 1.7. Based on the findings researcher compared the calculated t value i.e. 21.05 and the tabulated value i.e.1.99 on 72 degrees of freedom at 0.05 level of significance. Since the calculated value was higher than the tabulated value the researcher rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis. Which revealed that there was a significant increase in the level of knowledge.Conclusions: Thus the structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding child abuse was effective.

Adolescents are tomorrow’s adult population, and their health and well being are crucial. Over the past few decades, adolescents are increasingly experiencing mental health challenges. As in schools, adolescent’s happiness and psychological well being has become a more important topic among their parents and teachers. The objective of the study was to assess the effect of psycho-social nursing intervention on happiness and psychological well being among adolescents at selected schools of Amritsar. A Pre experimental study (one group pretest and post test) was conducted on 60 adolescents studying in public schools of Amritsar selected by purposive sampling technique. The adolescents were allocated into three groups of 20 each. 12 sessions (5 sessions / week) of psycho-social nursing intervention were given to each group for 1 hour duration. Data was collected by administering standardized happiness and psychological well being questionnaire. The result of the study revealed that the mean post-test happiness score was higher (84.83±12.12) than pre test mean score of happiness (50.70±8.67) and was found to be statistically significant (t=20.30, df=59, p=0.000**). The mean post-test psychological well being score was higher (174.63±28.01) than pre-test mean score of psychological well being (97.18±22.71) and was found to be statistically significant (t=20.61, df=59, p=0.001*) but there was no significant association was found between pretest and post-test score of level of happiness and psychological well being with selected demographic variables. The study concluded that psycho-social nursing intervention was effective to improve the level of happiness and psychological well being among adolescents studying at selected public schools of Amritsar. Background: Coronary heart disease contributes much to the burden morbidity and mortality from chronic diseases globally and more than 80% of CVD-related deaths worldwide now occur in low and middle income countries. In India about 30 million adults suffer from cardiovascular disease. Objectives: To assess the knowledge of 3rd year G.N.M. students regarding coronary angiography and evaluate the effectiveness of informational booklet on knowledge regarding coronary angiography. Method: Pre-experimental research design was used for the study. Information booklet is dependent variable and knowledge of student nurses regarding coronary angiography is dependent variable. The setting of the study is at selected Schools of nursing at Vijayapur, Karnataka. Simple random sampling technique is used to select the subjects. The sample size is of 60 students. Result: In pre-test majority of subjects 30 (50%) had an average knowledge; 18 (30%) had poor knowledge and 12 (20%) had good knowledge, where as in post-test 51 (85%) of them had good knowledge and 09 (15%) had poor knowledge. Study also reveals that there is no association between pre-test knowledge and selected Socio demographic variables. Study also reveals that calculated paired‘t’ value (t= 26.48) is greater than tabulated value (t= 1.960). Hence H1 is accepted. This indicates that the gain in knowledge score is statistically significant at P< 0.05 levels. Conclusion: The findings of the study conclude that there is a need for educating the student nurses regarding coronary angiography. It implies that a nursing administrator should take part in developing protocols, standing orders related to design of the educational programmes and strategies for GNM Students regarding Coronary angiography.
