Mobility and Walkability is an important concept in urban planning. The term is built around the concept of providing healthy communities, reducing dependency on automobiles and improving health consciousness to people. Based on factors including connectivity, densities, amenities, and socio-economics, this research focused on the analysis of urban design elements in relation to mobility and walkability of pedestrians around Divisoria District, Cagayan de Oro City through the influence of street networks around the area. Using data and actual survey helped locate high rates for walkability within the district. Additional qualities such as distance, safety, socio-economic and public spaces also play a role in the rates of mobility and walkability around the district. The urban design elements as facilitators take place within all types of developments around the area, but the number of barriers hinders mobility and walkability. Analysis of barriers and facilitators produced design guidelines that will promote mobility and walkability for new districts and urban development in the future. The findings suggested that urban design elements are important in achieving mobility and walkability.

In this regard, and in line with Ashworth (2009), three urban planning instruments are widely used throughout the world as a means of boosting a city’s image: (i) personality association - where places associate themselves with a named individual from history, literature, the arts, politics, entertainment, sport or even mythology; (ii) the visual qualities of buildings and urban design, which include flagship building, signature urban design and even signature districts and (iii) event hallmarking - where places organize events, usually cultural (e.g., European Capital of Culture, henceforth referred to as ECoC) or sporting (e.g., the Olympic Games), in order to obtain worldwide recognition.

In recent years, central and local governments have carried out studies to establish a legal administrative infrastructure for urban design and to develop urban design guidance to preserve the identity of historic cities under the pressure of rapid urbanization in Turkey. The main aim of this article is to explain how we implemented a participatory urban design guidance (PUrDeG) model for cultural heritage sites, which was developed as part of a research project. We explain how we used various techniques to engage various actors in preparing urban design guidelines for a cultural heritage site. In addition, the article discusses the importance of community engagement techniques and processes in developing urban design guidance, and the context of guidelines for sustainable conservation of cultural heritage sites with examples from the United Kingdom and Turkey. It then presents a case study conducted in the Hanlar District, a Unesco world heritage site in Bursa, Turkey. The case study includes research on planning decisions, site analysis, a survey of urban residents, in depth interviews with local artisans, and an urban design workshop with various actors. The main outcomes of this study include a presentation of how to use various community engagement techniques to prepare urban design guidelines for cultural heritage sites in Turkey, an urban design guidance system for Bursa, and a list of recommendations related to urban design guidelines for the Hanlar District and Bursa in the light of UK experience.

Virtual reality technology is a hot research topic in computer science and the introduction of virtual roaming to the field of urban planning provides a new means for urban design. This paper first analyzes the development, features and technology of virtual reality technology and the virtual city roaming and its applications and advantages in urban planning with focus on how to implement a virtual city roaming system by means of the scene development software Vega and finally concludes the importance of virtual city roaming in urban planning.
