Modern Witches: a study of feminine identity among wicca practitioners Abstract A group of witches practitioners of wicca has been studied between 1999 and 2000. This group is composed mostly by women who designate themselves as witches. They operate with a notion of modern witchcraft that appropriates some characteristics of traditional witchcraft, but not the idea of accusation or misdeed. The wicca also uses traditional gender conceptions, inverting the valuation of both genders usually found, giving the feminine a higher value, which is translated in the preeminence of women in its theology and ritual practices. Field research allowed the establishment of the profile of wicca practitioners in the Rio de Janeiro area.

Abstract This article seeks to understand how femininity is understood by organizations from the perspective of masculine homosexuals, with a special focus on the concept of Ableism. In this qualitative research, data was collected through in-depth interviews with 13 masculine homosexuals living in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the corpus was analysed using Content Analysis (Bardin, 2009). Our field research showed that effeminate gays and women are considered to be inferior to those people with heteromasculine behavior. In this context, femininity within the organizational environment is considered as a deficiency, and those who have this deficiency are excluded from this environment or encouraged to overcome this deficiency.

The paper aims to research the search for self-identity and feminism in Manju Kapur's Home. Home is a masterful novel of the acts of kindness, compromise, and secrecy that lies at the center of each family. The novel, narrate of Indian family life spans three generations whose destiny and dreams are pasted to the Banwarilal cloth shop.  Nisha the protagonist has got to struggle for establishing her identity and to survive during this male-dominated world.  In Indian society, women have never been acknowledged as a person outside their              pre-destined roles of a woman, daughter, and mother.  The female hero of Home tries to free herself of ‘dependence syndrome' thrust upon her by the agents of social organization. The paper focuses on the journey of the feminine protagonist, Nisha towards individuality and self-identity and don't wish to be seen as a self-sacrificing rubber-doll. She had to struggle for her existence as, like different heroines of Manju Kapur, she is within the transformation to innovate the search of autonomy and feminine identity.

Abstract The result of field research conducted in a Rio de Janeiro favela, the article discusses transformations in the organization of community associations. In particular, it describes the weakening of local associations that are traditionally regarded as representative of the community and the rise of new forms of association, indicating their distinctive characteristics in terms of relations with external agents (from the state and other spheres) and forms of organization and action. We place these processes in a long timeframe, prior to the installation of the Police Pacification Units in 2009 and to the following entrance of new state and private agents. We review critical events in the history of the local political organization, to discuss the multiple assemblages that affect the organization of the favela residents.

ABSTRACTAlthough it is conceived as an eminently practical subject, frequently the music specialist in Primary Education supports his teaching on a book of text which holds a great part of the musical contents that the teacher offers to the group. Inside them, it can be observed a great amount of rhythmic and melodic exercises, listenings, theoretical explanations and activities for instruments or movement which the teacher articulates his own methodology on. Among them it is necessary to emphasize the use that the musical textbooks do of the infantile songs from a historical, "folkloric" or didactic origin, used to work with diverse procedures. However, what is the paper of the feminine identity inside those songs? According to his textual content, what role does woman occupy? Is it suitable to present in a society where the gender equality should be a top priority? The present proposal analyzes the female stereotypes contained in the infantile songs on the books of music of three of the main Spanish publishing houses: SM, Santillana and Anaya.

Considering a global scenario in which refugees are struggling to find asylum and after that integrate themselves, it is necessary to analyze the efficiency of different immigration policies and, more specifically, their practical implications in the lives of refugees. This present paper analyzed the general scenario of refugee integration through the lenses of a study case of the Syrian Refugees in Rio de Janeiro. The question this research aims to answer is if the considered progressive Brazilian integration laws are actually causing a process of invisibilization. The title takes an ontological stand and supports the sociological concept of the word “invisibilization”, since the object of interest is in fact the gradual process of turning invisible. The analysis of this project consists in literature review, interview with a specialist on the topic of Syrian Refugees in Rio de Janeiro, interpretation of open interviews with three refugees living in Rio and participative observation in a field research at a Refugee Festival. Analyzing all the data and personal depositions, the analysis points to two main categories of challenges for Syrian Refugees trying to integrate: a cultural isolation and local social barriers. Both types correspond to detachments from forms of their identity: isolated from their identity in Syria and not integrated enough to have an identity in Brazil. Accordingly to Brazilian legal reports, the social barrier should be facilitated if the all the policies foreseen in the Constitution and Refugee Act were actually implemented.

The Mammal Collection of UENF was created in 2013 to document the biodiversity of northern Rio de Janeiro, and house voucher specimens collected during field research held by professors from the university and collaborating institutions. The collection currently holds 440 physical vouchers, mostly bats, and includes noteworthy records, such as the first Promops nasutus reported for the state of Rio de Janeiro. To these physical vouchers, we recently added a digital bioacoustics collection (343 files of bat distress calls) and a camera-trap multimedia collection (2683 videos or photographs of small to large-sized mammals). In this paper, we provide an overview of these holdings, and highlight and discuss the importance of regional scientific collections, along with the fundamental role of publishing their records in online databases in order to increase their visibility and scientific use. Finally, we discuss the importance of natural history collections to society, emphasizing that improving the awareness of the general public on the role of these collections to scientific development will be crucial for their conservation over the next centuries.
