The article provides a description of socio-cultural markers that make it possible to speak with confidence about the criteria for identifying multicultural regions typical for Russia. The authors of the article draw attention to the need for universities to more actively participate in the formation of regional identities in order to ensure the cultural security of the country's residents. In conclusion, the article concludes that universities have a high potential to act as a resource for cultural stabilization and socialization in a multicultural region, that is, together with the state and civil society institutions, to implement programs aimed at harmonizing interethnic relations.

The aim of this thesis was to survey educational trends as reported in five daily newspapers from 1901 to 1905 and from 1978 to 1982. As a basis for evaluating those trends, writings from historians in the earlier period were used, while academic writings from Delta journals were used in the latter period. The role of the newspaper in reporting issues differs in two inter-related ways from academic and historic writings. First, newspapers must "serve" the public so as to achieve their second function, viability. This is achieved by a process of "gate keeping" whereby articles are selected for publishing suitability. A significant mismatch was found in the earlier period between issues identified by historians and those reported in the newspapers. In that period, the public and newspapers alike were too pre-occupied with "balancing the traditional principle against the geographical principle", which was further reinforced by local jealousies, to notice the important changes that were taking place. In the latter period, the issues were generally found to be shared by academic writings and newspaper articles alike. However, as with the earlier period, good investigative reporting on serious philosophical and ethical issues was omitted. In neither period of time did the public appear to be seriously interested in educational trends.

Distance learning and self-education have been an actual trend for many years but during the pandemic, it became critically relevant and important. The closure of schools and higher education institutions around the world had a negative impact on the educational sector in many countries in general and has affected almost every student and educator. This paper examines Ukrainian educators’ level of knowledge and skills in using modern distance learning tools and trends and the way of improving the teaching-learning process during the conditions of the 2020 pandemic. The authors present their review of educational trends under the conditions of distance, online and blended learning. They also examine the Ukrainian educators’ level of knowledge and skills in using modern distance learning tools and trends. For this purpose, the authors have elaborated and implemented a local survey for a Ukrainian university teaching staff (target group) who need to use distance learning tools in their research and professional activity during the quarantine. The authors also present the ways of improving the learning process via distance learning tools.

Running a children’s bookstore for nearly thirty years, Deb Pettid and Pete Cowdin witnessed not only the vital impact of books and story, but also how educational trends were increasingly focused more on proficiency levels than cultivating a love of reading. As both booksellers and artists, the pair began to envision a place where children and families could reconnect with story, celebrate the culture around children’s literature, and literally step into some of the greatest children’s books ever published. So, five years ago they closed their beloved children’s bookstore, The Reading Reptile, to embark on an outlandishly ambitious adventure—The Rabbit hOle.
