The present research proposes the hierarchical linear modeling model (HLM) that describe how green social responsibility (GSR) predict the environmental strategy (ES) of agricultural technology manufacturing companies by the intermediary effects of the supervisor’s green promise (GP) based on symbolic context theory. This study collected data with 150 supervisors from 50 different agricultural technology companies in Taiwan to analyze the HLM. The results suggest that vendors of agricultural technology companies should establish GSR to increase GP, which consequently can increase the companies’ adoption of the ES. It is now the first to establish a milestone, propose a novel adoption model—GP and its antecedents through the HLM to predict the adoption of ES. These findings can upgrade the related literature of agriculture and can provide the procedure in implementing ES in agricultural technology companies.

This paper uses context theory to study the question in natural language. In syntax, questions can be classified into polar questions, alternative questions, concealed questions, and inquisitive questions. In semantics, it can be divided into polar questions and inquisitive questions. Only inquisitive questions with characteristics of inquisitiveness, informativeness, compliance, and transparency need to be studied by context theory. There are three levels for question context: question-answer facts, background knowledge, and question presupposition. The question context composes the possible world where the question is. Question understanding is a function of the mapping of the question through the possible worlds, and the set of propositions consisting of different possible worlds of the question context and the set of propositions consisting of different possible answers to the question are mapped to each other, resulting in different answers in different possible worlds of the same question.

This paper seeks to address the issues on creole among the Nigerian context with salient issues: its stigma among the elites and benefits among the basilects users; it delved into the benefits of the pidgin/creole existence, its origin, and historical evolution. The data collected were analysed with the concept of descriptive method analysis with minor modification and additional translations to understand the actual meaning of those words. Various theoretical frameworks were explored and the common socio-context theory was used as the main bedrock of this work which is concerned with the language situation in the society and appropriate variables especially in the Nigerian context. The work also served and focused on prospects of decreolising the creole in various sectors in Nigeria, their various usages, such as in these areas: entertainment, religion, regions and others areas where creole has dominated.

This research aims at identifying and examining the translation strategies applied in Tempo English magazine, the English edition of Tempo magazine. The data were gathered from 10 selected articles of the source magazine, Tempo, and its translated magazine, Tempo English, both of which belonged to the edition of April 30 – May 6, 2018. The analysis and categorization were based on the news translation theory proposed by Bielsa and Bassnett and supported by Joan Cutting’s context theory as well. The result of this research shows that the translators of Tempo English magazine used all of the news translation strategies in translating the Indonesian news articles to English. There were 199 data found in the research with 77 data of the Addition strategy, 68 data of the Elimination, 25 data of the strategy of Summarizing Information, 15 data of the Change in the Order of Paragraphs, and the other 14 data using the Change of Title and Lead. The research analysis concludes that in the strategy of the Change in the Order of Paragraphs, Tempo English magazine tended to apply the change of order at the phrase and sentence level rather than at the paragraph level.

AbstractThe International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) attempts constantly to motivate its audience through social media to adopt humanitarian attitudes and behaviors. Owing to its multicultural audience, the results of this communicative attempt varies from region to region. In this context, in order to optimize the humanitarian communication outcome, it is of high importance to investigate the mediating role of culture. Drawing on Hall’s context theory, this comparative survey-based study tries to analyze the influence of personal context culture on humanitarian behavior intention in a low-context-culture country (Switzerland) and a high-context-culture country (Colombia). The results indicated that once exposed to implicit social media posts of the ICRC, the Colombian showed slightly higher behavior intention compared to the Swiss and participants’ personal context-culture score fully accounted for this difference. This study is also an empirical examination of Hall’s context theory in a humanitarian communication context.
