This chapter is an update that examines the effect of using “deliberation” as a tool for teaching at the college level. The students in this study considered the economic benefits and expenses of a box store. Deliberation provides a unique insight into what might be a better understanding of what students are thinking. The literature review contains various forms of deliberation including the process of deliberation in education; the outcomes of deliberative polling events; deliberation with technology; and whether working has an impact on students who deliberate. The use of pre- and posttest surveys shows that students who engaged in a deliberative dialogue were more likely to increase their civic learning and to change their opinions about the issues discussed. The findings demonstrate that deliberation pedagogy influences students' beliefs at both the individual and aggregate level.

This case study presents a model of integrated pedagogy in a two-semester college-level General Chemistry course. The model was designed to engage students safely during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors use the term “Integrated Pedagogy” to emphasize that several modes of active learning pedagogy. The technology incorporated into the course was not as an add-on enhancement but as an essential and central element. The laboratory component was integrated into the course as an independent, self-directed experience. Informal student surveys suggest that the model may transform the traditional approaches to chemistry education to meet the changing needs of diverse student populations.

This chapter discusses a College Bridge Writing Program piloted by the Petey Greene Program inside the Washington D.C. Department of Corrections (DOC) Jail. The program is designed to foster racial and social justice by addressing some of the barriers that prevent incarcerated students from accessing higher education, from succeeding in college-level courses, and more generally, from finding meaningful employment. After providing an overview of the structure and the objectives of the course, the author focuses on the challenges posed by the pandemic and on two of the main features that contributed to the success of the program – the use of learning technology and the role of volunteer tutors, who provided one-on-one support to incarcerated students.

Purpose: Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a fundamental issue for knowledge management in teaching. Teachers get more benefits from it because of the opportunities for participation in training, workshops, seminars, symposiums, mentoring programs, research work, coaching, and others.  This study explores college teachers’ perceptions about CPD at the college level for knowledge management and lifelong learning and identifies the factors that contribute to designing CPD. Methodology: An organizational case study with mixed methods and a multistage cluster sampling technique were applied to carry out this research. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, college teachers’ face-to-face appointments were converted to e-mail communication to capture data. Findings: Of the 63 scheduled appointments, 37 (58.73%) respondents sent their responses via e-mail. For proper empirical evaluation, we used the non-parametric Mann–Whitney and Shapiro–Wilk tests. Tested and confirmed result of the study suggested that age, subject, length of service, gender, in-house training, necessary skills, administrative support, networking capacity, and online facility are the important contributors to CPD and knowledge management. Implications of the study: The facts and findings of our study are very important for policymakers and stakeholders to formulate appropriate policies.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought major changes in every sector including education. From school to college level, traditional classroom learning was forced to change to online learning. There were many challenges from inexperience to mental and physical health issues. This study aimed to find the perception of medical students about current medical online learning system in south Kerala. Methods: An online survey was conducted in November 2020 using a self-designed pretested questionnaire consisting of three sections: socio demographic profile, a 4-point Likert scale having 29 items to assess the perception of online learning, questions to assess certain parameters like health problems, duration of electronic usage etc. Frequencies, percentages, and descriptive statistics were calculated, and Chi-square test was used for statistical significance. Results: Study showed nearly three-fourth (74%) of students have a negative perception towards online learning. Of the different formats of e-learning used by students during the study period, most preferred were live lectures. Among the participants, more than half (57%) suggested a need for improvement in the quality of classes. Majority (75%) of students agreed that long hours of online classes had caused health problems. Conclusions: Though online learning is the need of the hour; majority of the students have a negative perception towards it which demands an enhancement in its standards and change to a preferred format
