Interventional doctors are exposed to radiation hazards during the operation and endure high work intensity. Remote vascular interventional surgery robotics is a hot research field that can not only protect the health of interventional doctors, but also improve accuracy and efficiency of surgeries. However, the current vascular interventional robots still have many shortcomings to be improved. This article introduces the mechanical structure characteristics of various fields of vascular interventional therapy surgical robots, discusses the current key features of vascular interventional surgical robotics in force sensing, haptic feedback, and control methods, summarizes current frontiers about autonomous surgery, long geographic distances remote surgery and MRI-compatible structures. Finally, combined with the current research status of vascular interventional surgery robots, this article analyzes the development directions and puts forward a vision for the future vascular interventional surgery robots.

Background: Radiation is a source of energy which travels through materials. The ionising radiation produce free radicals from an atom with the electron removal. X-ray is the most common ionizing radiation helping in diagnosis. There is an increase in the use of radiation in diagnosis, procedural along with surgical treatment where radiologists and the patients should be aware of the radiation hazards and its ill effects. The aim of our study is to analyse the radiation hazards awareness among females of various age groups. Materials and Methods: The study was done as an online setting; the responses were obtained from 103 female participants from the Chennai sub population. A self-structured questionnaire comprising about 18 yes or no types of questions were prepared in google forms and circulated as a link to the participants. The responses were exported to google sheets and data was retrieved and analysed in SPSS software version 26. The results were obtained from SPSS software. Results: From the results analysed, 74.76% have undergone X ray or any procedures but only few (25.24%) did not undergo any diagnostic procedures. 71.84% of them were aware that all radiation is hazardous whereas the rest (28.16%) were not aware. 88.35% of them accepted that bone marrow and child’s thyroid tissue are more sensitive to radiation but few (11.65%) did not accept it. 71.84% of the participants of females of age group 20-40 years were more aware than females of 40-60 years age group (16.50%) that bone marrow, the child's thyroid is the sensitive tissue affected by radiation. Chi square test was done and the association was found to be not statistically significant with P-value .236 (P = .05). Chi square test was done to check awareness of thyroid cancer caused mainly through radiations between the two age groups of females and the association was found to be not statistically significant with p-value is .703 (P = .05). Conclusion: Within the limits of the study, the females of age group 20-40 years have higher levels of awareness than females of age group 40-60 years.

Background: Due to increase in geriatric orthopaedic patients minimally invasive soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries are gaining. But such procedures have increased the surgeon’s dependence on fluoroscopy which has exposed them to ever increasing dosage of ionising radiations (both direct and scattered).

Methods: The study was carried out among medical professionals attending annual north zone conference of orthopaedics using a pre-designed questionnaire on a non-probability sample of 200 orthopedicians. Questionnaires contained 11 MCQs.

Results: 62% of the surgeons believed that hands receive maximum amount of C-arm radiations followed by thyroid (25%). 9% of surgeons have answered eyes and 4% say gonads. 31% of surgeons believe that 100 mSv is allowable annual effective whole-body dose of radiation. 15% believe it to be 500 msv. Majority (37%) of the surgeons had no idea on the allowable annual effective whole-body dose of radiation. 30% of surgeons believe that allowable annual effective dose of radiation for hands is 50 msv. Further 23% of the surgeons believe it to be 100 msv. 50% have no idea about this.

Conclusions: All orthopaedic residents and surgeons should have more information and knowledge about ionising radiation. Gamma spectroscopy was performed to determine the concentrations of 40K, 226Ra and 232Th in maize meal samples collected from shop outlets and open markets in Namibia. The activity concentrations and Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk were determined using a high purity germanium (HPGe) detector. The average activity concentrations of 40K, 226Ra and 232Th were found to be 29.98 ± 4.05, 0.99 ± 0.40 and 0.35 ± 0.08 Bq.kg – 1 in the maize meal samples. The result showed the activity concentrations of 40K significantly higher than the other radionuclides in all the maize meal samples. The average excess life cancer risk varies from 1.33 x 10 – 13 to 6.05 x 10 – 13 for 40K, 8.76 x 10 -13 to 1.19 x 10 – 12 for 232Th and 2.43 x 10 -11 to 2.83 x 10 – 11 for 226Ra. Hence, when compared with internationally acceptable limits, all values fall within the safety limits. Thus, the study concludes that the maize meals consumed in Namibia are radiologically safe for consumption.
