Introduction: Inflammation is said to be the response of the body to an injury. It is a body defence reaction to reduce or eliminate the spread of injurious agents. It is essential that steps should be taken to introduce new medicinal plants and to develop cheaper, effective and safe analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs. The main aim of this study is to assess the potential anti-inflammatory activity of Tecoma stans, Acalypha indica and Abutilon indicum plant is being studied. Materials and Methods: Protease inhibition assay was done by Bovine serum albumin was added to plant samples with increase in concentrations as per the standard methods. In this study, Aspirin was used as a standard anti-inflammatory drug.The data were analyzed statistically by a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test to see the statistical significance among the groups. The results with p<0.05 level were considered to be statistically significant. Results: In this study, it was observed that the plant leaf extract of Tecoma stans, Acalypha indica and Abutilon indicus contain anti-inflammatory activity. The protein denaturation inhibitory activity of leaf extract of Tecoma stans, Acalypha indica and Abutilon indicum, plant extract was represented graphically. Tecoma stans, was observed to contain the anti inflammatory activity. Conclusion: This study revealed that Tecoma stans, Acalypha indica and Abutilon indicum are important medicinal plants with diverse pharmacological spectrum and contain anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, this research has been taken to collect and compile the pharmacological uses of these plant extracts which will be useful to the society to venture into a field of alternative systems of medicine.

Tecoma stans is a flowering plant belonging to the family Bignoniaceae. It is the floral emblem of the Bahamas. Abutilon indicum belongs to the family Malvaceae. It is also called Indian Mallow. Tecoma stans and Abutilon indicumhave antimicrobial activity and can be used in producing antibiotics. There is an urgent need to produce new antibiotics as there is an increase in the development of pathogen resistant drugs. The aim of this study was to compare the antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extract of Tecoma stansand Abutilonindicum leaves. E.faecalis bacteria were maintained in nutrient agar slopes. The powder of the two herbs, were subjected to extraction by Soxhlet extractor and was concentrated to dry residue by Agar well diffusion method. The nutrient broth was inoculated with bacterial strains. The culture was adjusted to 0.5McFarland turbidity standard. Lawn culture was done in Muller-Hinton agar plate and then the plates were dried. A 6 mm diameter well is bored for different concentrations. The extracts were introduced into the well and allowed to stand for 24 hrs. The antibacterial activity was determined by measuring the zone of inhibition. The present finding on the antimicrobial potential of Abutilon indicum and Tecoma stands showed that the two plants have growth inhibitory activity against oral pathogen E. faecalis. Abutilon indicum has a zone of inhibition greater than Tecoma stans. Abutilon indicum exhibited better activity compared to Tecoma stans.

In this present study, callus induction from the leaves of Abutilon indicum was performed and evaluated antioxidant potential after TLC, PTLC. For induction of callus, Murashige, and Skoog (MS) medium with 2.5 mg/L concentration of 2, 4 Dichloro phenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and for assay, Folin Ciocalteau method practiced for evaluation of total phenol, modified spectrophotometer method used for DPPH assay. Based on total phenolic content, total antioxidant capacity, DPPH, assay, and reducing power assay performed after separation and partial purification of total phenols by Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and Preparative thin-layer chromatography (PTLC), respectively. For total phenol estimation, hot water extract shows the highest total phenol content (10.56 μg/ml) by comparing another extract; similarly, PTLC fraction of callus extract from Abutilon indicum shows 61% of inhibition in DPPH at 10 μg/ml. From this study, compared to leaf, callus shows a higher concentration of total phenol and shows promising antioxidant activity. So, it gives scope for further exploration and purification and application of total phenol from callus of Abutilon indicum.

The study was designed to investigate the antithyroid activity of the crude methanolic (70%) extract of aerial parts of Abutilon indicum in male albino rats. The extract was prepared and analyzed for the presence of phytochemical constituents through preliminary chemical analysis, antioxidant assay and GC-MS. The in vivo antithyroid activities in thyroxine-induced hyperthyroidism were studied. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids and phenols, also verified by the data obtained from GC-MS. Thyroxine increased the levels of triiodothyronine (4.9 ± 0.1 ng/mL) and total thyroxine (9.4 ± 0.2 μg/dL); while, A. indicum at the doses of 300 and 500 mg/kg, showed significant decrease in the elevated levels of triiodothyronine (3.0 ± 0.1 and 2.6 ± 0.2 ng/mL) and thyroxine (7.7 ± 0.2 and 7.1 ± 0.2 μg/dL), respectively. Histopathological studies showed the restoration of filled follicular colloids in extract-treated animals. The results show that A. indicum exhibits dose-dependent antithyroid effects.

The study was done to investigate the in vitro anti-diabetic activity of Ethanol-water extract of Abutilon indicum plant leaves. The phytochemicals present in the extract was analyzed by using standard methods. In vitro antioxidant study was done using DPPH radical scavenging activity. The In vitro anti-diabetic studies were done by alpha amylase enzyme, alpha glucosidases enzyme inhibition studies and Glucose uptake in Yeast cells studies. The phytochemical analysis showed that the extract rich with proteins, polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, polysaccharides. The in vitro antiglycation potential of extract was confirmed through alpha amylase enzyme, alpha glucosidases enzyme inhibition studies and Glucose uptake in Yeast cells studies. The results of the present study showed the significant antioxidant and antidiabetic activity. The potential pharmacological activity of Abutilon indicum might be the presence of phytochemicals.
