In the last several years’ material handling has become a new, complex, and rapidly evolving science. Material handling system (MHS) design has a direct influence on the logistics cost. This work is to locates and identifies the wasteful activities regarding the material handling, and to streamline the activities to reach a minimum of material handling. Most of industries are using EOT cranes for handling of material. In today’s modern era, crane is very important material handling equipment in industry because of safety reliability, fast speed, economy etc. In this paper, discussed about design Consideration of material handling equipment for ganga iron and steel limited Nagpur. In the current material handling equipment, the life of the overhead crane as well as the cost of the material handling equipment is too important to stay in the competitive market of the industries. The cost of the material handling equipment is depending on the weight of the material. The performance of the material handling equipment will be done by the working on the optimization of the overhead crane used in the industries. Crane is a reliable component for lifting load in industries. Crane fails due to high friction in between wire rope and pulley. It leads to failure in gear box or it may increase power requirement of crane to lift loads. It is necessary for the crane to lift the load with minimum effort and minimum friction between the mating surfaces Based on the design calculations and analysis, a prototype crane was simulation, ncs, analysis.

Bucket elevators are mostly used as transporting method for many industries. Selecting this method commonly depends upon material to be transported, its weight, height, matter. Usefulness of this system totally depends upon type of material to be transporting. This system comes under material handling equipment. In this paper practical application of bucket elevator is considered, where belt drive operated elevator is analysed.

Choosing the best Material Handling Equipment (MHE) is an aspect that needs to be considered in the industrial sector because the amount of capital involved in the procurement process is very large. Many substantial factors influence the MHE selection process. One popular approach was chosen to resolve the MHE selection issue. The concept of Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is popularly used because it can solve and handle conflicting components in the MHE selection process. This study proposes the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Multi-Objective Optimization on the Basis of Ratio Analysis (MOORA) procedures in MHE selection. AHP is proposed to weigh the MHE selection criteria. MOORA is proposed to compute the rankings of the MHE alternatives. Case studies are applied to this problem. The results show that the cost criterion gives the greatest weight in selecting MHE. Other than that, Of the five selected MHE alternatives, Hand Pallet Truck is the MHE that has the best rating.

In this chapter, the relationships between logistics operations and e-commerce are investigated. The logistics operations are discussed under the distribution and warehousing subjects. The effects of e-commerce on these activities are analyzed by considering the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainability in a broad perspective. For evaluating distribution of e-commerce products, current last-mile operations, trends, and future expectations are investigated in the sustainability concept. Furthermore, the effects of e-commerce on warehouse types and operations are presented. Besides that, location and layout of warehouses, materials used in warehouse buildings, and material handling equipment are discussed with a sustainability perspective.

Material handling refers to the processes of loading materials onto a material handling equipment, moving from one location to another location with the help of material handling equipment, and unloading the material from the transportation equipment to the relevant location. Non-ergonomic material handling equipment for the employee causes the increment of cycle time that does not add value to the product during transportation within the enterprise. The increase in cycle time causes an increase in fatigue and inefficiency in the employee. This study evaluates five material handling equipment based on eight ergonomic criteria by using interval type-2 fuzzy TOPSIS method. Interval type-2 fuzzy number provides to examine the fuzziness and the uncertainty more accurately than type-1 fuzzy number, which handles only one crisp membership degree. The opinions of experts are aggregated by employing interval type-2 fuzzy number operators.
