Currently, police work is considered a stressful professional occupation that requires police officers to be able to cope with danger, uncertainty and unpredictability, which, together with other factors, determines the development of emotional burnout syndrome in police officers. The article presents a phenomenological analysis of the scientific positions of domestic and foreign authors, which allowed us to establish the characteristic manifestations of emotional burnout and establish the consistency of views on this phenomenon within the framework of three main directions: individual psychological, socio-psychological and organizational-psychological. The purpose of the study was to update and bring together views on a significant problem, the solution of which provides the subject of the law enforcement sphere with the preservation of working capacity, well-being, and psychological health. As a result of the conducted research, groups of factors of personal, organizational, role and motivational genesis that affect the development of emotional burnout are established. The features of emotional burnout of police officers are revealed, which are manifested in the reduction of the performance of official duties due to irrational or reduced emotional expression, a sense of dissatisfaction with oneself, personal alienation, depression, emotional lability, irritability, neuroticism with a tendency to spontaneous and reactive aggression. The protective and coping behavior of police officers is associated with the predominance of non-constructive coping of the antisocial, passive and manipulative type, as well as the priority use of the "regression"mechanism of psychological protection. On the basis of the conducted research, the directions of psychological prevention of emotional burnout of police officers are determined

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of mindfulness on organizational role stress (ORS) based on the Monitor Acceptance Theory (MAT) perspective.Design/methodology/approachThis study is based on a cross-sectional data analysis collected from 137 employees working at an Indian IT organization located in Bangalore (India). ORS and MAAS scales have been used for measuring ORS and mindfulness, respectively.FindingsOverall, the study findings have indicated a negative relationship (r = −0.588) between mindfulness (M) and ORS. First, both personal inadequacy (PI) and self-role distance (SRD) are found to be predominantly impacted by M, whereas both role erosion (RE) and role overload (RO) appear to be less affected by mindfulness. Second, SRD appears to be the highest ORS sub-dimension among IT employees. Third, building on the extant literature, it can be inferred that “no one size fits all”, ORS is both organization and context specific.Originality/valueThis study pioneers to establish empirical evidence between M and ORS. Training employees on M can help in effectively handling ORS.

AbstractThe organizational role for hormones in the regulation of sexual behavior is currently poorly explored. Previous work showed that seasonal variation in levels of the steroid hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) during pupal development regulates plasticity in male courtship behavior in Bicyclus anynana butterflies. Wet season (WS) males, reared at high temperature, have high levels of 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) during pupation and become active courters. Dry season (DS) males, reared at low temperatures, have lower levels of 20E and lower courtship rates. Rescue of WS courtship rates can be achieved via injection of 20E into DS male pupae, but it is still unknown whether 20E alters gene expression in the pupal brain, and if so, the identity of those targets. Using transcriptomics, qPCR, and behavioral assays with a transgenic knockout, we show that higher expression levels of the yellow gene in DS male pupal brains, relative to WS brains, represses courtship in DS males. Furthermore, injecting DS males with 20E downregulates yellow to WS levels 4 hours post-injection, revealing a hormone sensitive window that determines courtship behavior. These findings are in striking contrast to Drosophila, where yellow is required for active male courtship behavior. We conclude that 20E plays an organizational role during pupal brain development by regulating the expression of yellow, which is a repressor of the neural circuity for male courtship behavior in B. anynana. This work shows that similar to vertebrates, hormones can also play an organizational role in insect brains, leading to permanent changes in adult sexual behavior.Significance StatementBehavioral plasticity in adult insects is known to be regulated by hormones, which activate neural circuits in response to environmental cues. Here, we show that hormones can also regulate adult behavioral plasticity by altering gene expression during brain development, adjusting the insect’s behavior to predictable seasonal environmental variation. We show that seasonal changes in the hormone 20E alters expression of the yellow gene in the developing pupal brain of Bicyclus anynana butterflies, which leads to differences in male courtship behavior between the dry and wet seasonal forms. This work provides one of the first examples of the organizational role of hormones in altering gene expression and adult sexual behavior in the developing insect brain.

Background: The United States Veterans Health Administration National Center for Ethics in Health Care implemented the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decisions Initiative throughout the Veterans Health Administration health care system in 2017. This policy encourages goals of care conversations, referring to conversations about patient’s treatment and end-of-life wishes for life-sustaining treatments, among Veterans with serious illnesses. A key component of the initiative is expanding interdisciplinary provider roles in having goals of care conversations. Aim: Use organizational role theory to explore medical center experiences with expanding interdisciplinary roles in the implementation of a goals of care initiative. Design: A qualitative thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews. Setting/participants: Initial participants were recruited using purposive sampling of local medical center champions. Snowball sampling identified additional participants. Participants included thirty-one interdisciplinary providers from 12 geographically diverse initiative pilot and spread medical centers. Results: Five themes were identified. Expanding provider roles in goals of care conversations (1) involves organizational culture change; (2) is influenced by medical center leadership; (3) is supported by provider role readiness; (4) benefits from cross-disciplinary role agreement; and (5) can “overwhelm” providers. Conclusions: Organizational role theory is a helpful framework for exploring interdisciplinary roles in a goals of care initiative. Support and recognition of provider role expansion in goals of care conversations was important for the adoption of a goals of care initiative. Actionable strategies, including multi-level leadership support and the use of interdisciplinary champions, facilitate role change and have potential to strengthen uptake of a goals of care initiative.

Returned to power by an uprising at the end of 1829 in which he took a central organizational role, Alamán’s chief time (1830-1832) as the principal minister in the national government under President Anastasio Bustamante is detailed in this chapter. The minister’s efforts to centralize the national government and impose political stability as much as possible through the neutering of state governments, suppression of political dissent, and censorship of the press are examined. Among the problems he confronted in this high tide of his political influence were the suppression of endemic banditry, the American colonization of Texas, and the ambitions of the ever-unquiet Santa Anna. Alamán’s constant lament regarding the terrible state of the country is highlighted. Considerable attention is paid to his domestic life and the lives of his children, including a plan (never acted upon) for the family to emigrate to Britain.

This study utilizes the Strategic Action Field (SAF) framework as a lens to study implementation effectiveness of Ohio START, a multiactor and multilevel implementation process. We examine the extent to which perceptions of successes and challenges vary across organizational roles in county-level child welfare agencies during Ohio START implementation. Preliminary findings reveal that perceptions of implementation effectiveness differ based on organizational role.

AbstractThe present study is to know the role of organizations and make an assessment on their assistance regarding preparedness and emergency response of flood disaster affected people. This study has used a mixed-method approach. Flood-affected people were the respondents to evaluate the organizational role. The study reveals that before the flood in 2017 to minimize the loss and damages, the GOs play a very effective role concerning the arrangement of preparatory meetings and preparing shelter centers, and NGOs play a very useful role in making arrangements for awareness-building training. During the emergency period, the GOs played a comparatively better role in providing CI sheets, agricultural assistance and cash money as relief for establishing housing facilities and emergency support. The NGOs played relatively a better role in providing food, water, clothes, medicine, etc. This study put forward complications such as limited sanctions, disruption of communication, lack of awareness of sufferers, and overlapping. The findings of this study would be a significant for the disaster policymakers, and civil societies.
