An ultrathin and simple frequency-selective rasorber (FSR) with a passband located within a wide absorption band is proposed. The ultrawide absorption band is obtained by employing commercial magnetic materials in the absorption channel and the passband is realized using epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) tunneling waveguides. The attractively ultrathin and simple feature is achieved by utilizing tunneling effect at the cutoff frequency of metallic waveguides with arbitrary length, permitting the overall thickness shrink into to the same as that of the absorber.

The mesoporous CdS/TiO2 composites were synthesized by a sol–gel method combined with solvothermal method. The material showed the gel block-like structures which were composed of heterogeneous spherical gel particles, the average size of the particles was about 14[Formula: see text]nm, with specific surface area as 300.254[Formula: see text]m2[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text]. The mesoporous CdS/TiO2 composites exhibited a wide absorption band to simulated sunlight whose adsorb wavelength reached to 550[Formula: see text]nm, its absorption intensity and catalytic performance of photocatalytic water-producing hydrogenation were also increased with the increase of CdS contents. When the molar ratio of TiO2:CdS was 1:1, the photocatalytic activity reached the highest, and the average hydrogen production rate reached 2167.32[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mol[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]h[Formula: see text].

Polymeric solar cells (PSCs) are a promising alternative for harnessing solar energy and producing clean and renewable energy. In the present work, a new photovoltaic polymer was synthesized to be applied as an electron donor in PSCs. The conjugated polymer showed high solubility. The optical and electronic properties were investigated in which it was possible to observe wide absorption band and bandgap indicating that it is a promising material for application in solar cells.

Diffuse reflection UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy was used to study changes in the color of facing bricks from the content of the additive of manganese tetraoxide (Mn3O4) into the ceramic mass. This investigation was shown that with an increase of the additive content, both the intensity of the absorption bands of colored bricks corresponding to hematite decreases, and the absorption intensity increases with a shift in the maximum of the wide absorption band from the visible to the near-infrared range of the spectrum. By changing the values of the color coordinates in the CIE L*a*b* and Mansell systems: lightness and color, and the values of the indicator-relative color ability, it is fixed that the color of a brick depends on the ratio of two pigments: yellowish-red of hematite and black, probably jacobsite in its composition.
