Large modern shopping malls are replacing smaller, traditional groceries in the Republic of Korea. The present paper analyzes this phenomenon and recommends a laissez-faire public policy response. Alterations in selling format to consumers are only the tip of the iceberg in terms of changes in the economy. They are always occurring, at least in healthy economies, and, always, roadblocks are placed in their way. For example, Wal-Mart is prohibited from opening stores in a few communities. Uber and Lyft have been met with great hostility from established taxicab services. Economists even offer a generic term for this phenomenon: restrictions on entry. The present paper is a case study of this occurrence. It focuses on the Republic of Korea, and mainly considers grocery stores. But this small story is emblematic of what takes place in numerous countries all around the world, and many industries. We recommend a laissez-faire public policy approach to this phenomenon. If the new ways of doing things do not violate anyone’s rights, now laws should be passed interfering with the new ways of engaging in commerce. But is this not unfair to the people engaged in the old industries that are withering away? Not a bit of it. The horse and buggy industry, for example, was populated by entrepreneurs who earned a good living before the advent of the horseless carriage. Why should they be guaranteed profits when their offerings are no longer accepted by the public? And the same applies to automobile manufacturers, should their products ever be supplanted by even better means of transportation.

Big Data is a generic term that involves the storing and processing of a large amount of data. This large amount of data has been promoted by technologies such as mobile applications, Internet of Things (IoT), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). An example of GIS is a Spatio-Temporal Database (STDB). A complex problem to address in terms of processing time is pattern searching on STDB. Nowadays, high information processing capacity is available everywhere. Nevertheless, the pattern searching problem on STDB using traditional Data Mining techniques is complex because the data incorporate the temporal aspect. Traditional techniques of pattern searching, such as time series, do not incorporate the spatial aspect. For this reason, traditional algorithms based on association rules must be adapted to find these patterns. Most of the algorithms take exponential processing times. In this paper, a new efficient algorithm (named Minus-F1) to look for periodic patterns on STDB is presented. Our algorithm is compared with Apriori, Max-Subpattern, and PPA algorithms on synthetic and real STDB. Additionally, the computational complexities for each algorithm in the worst cases are presented. Empirical results show that Minus-F1 is not only more efficient than Apriori, Max-Subpattern, and PAA, but also it presents a polynomial behavior.

Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) belongs to the genus Circovirus of the family Circoviridae, and it has been associated with porcine circovirus (associated) disease (PCVD or PCVAD) in pigs. PCVAD is the generic term for a series of disease syndromes that have caused economic losses to the pig industry worldwide. Since the discovery of PCV2 in the late 1990s, the virus has continued to evolve, and novel genotypes have continued to appear. Moreover, there has been recombination between different genotypes of PCV2. This review attempts to illustrate some progress concerning PCV2 in genome rearrangement and genomic recombination with non-PCV2-related nucleic acids, particularly focusing on the porcine circovirus-like virus P1 formed by the recombination of PCV2. The presence of rearranged PCV2 genomes can be demonstrated both in vivo and in vitro, and these subviral molecules ranged from 358 to 1,136 bp. Depending on whether it has the ability to encode a protein, the agents formed by PCV2 recombination can be divided into two categories: porcine circovirus-like viruses and porcine circovirus-like mini agents. We mainly discuss the porcine circovirus-like virus P1 regarding genomic characterization, etiology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis. Further research needs to be conducted on the pathogenicity of other porcine circovirus-like viruses and porcine circovirus-like mini agents and the effects of their interactions with PCV2, especially for the porcine circovirus-like mini agents that do not have protein-coding functions in the genome.

Aims: Temporomandibular dysfunction is a generic term that covers a large number of clinical problems affecting not only TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint), but also the masticatory musculature and related structures. Arthrocentesis is the most commonly used technique in patients with pain or limitation of the oral opening due to joint causes in which conservative treatment has failed. It is generally performed under local anesthesia and sedation, although depending on the type of patient and the preferences of the surgeon it can also be performed under general anesthesia. Material and method: A prospective, observational, analytical cohort study has been carried out to evaluate if the type of anesthesia, the drugs used for sedation and whether or not anesthetic induction is performed during arthrocentesis influence the results of 111 arthrocentesis performed in patients with TMJ pathology. Results: In patients who arthrocentesis was performed with propofol without midazolam the improvement in pain at one week and one month postarthrocentesis was greater than propofol with midazolam was used. Conclusion: The type of anesthesia could influence the results of arthrocentesis.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a generic term identifying a condition characterized by variable changes in peripheral airways and lung parenchyma. Standard spirometry cannot discriminate the relative role of conductive airways inflammatory changes from destructive parenchymal emphysema changes. The aim of this study was to quantify the emphysema component in COPD by a simple parameter (the Emphysema Severity Index - ESI), previously proved to reflect CT-assessed emphysema. Methods: ESI was obtained by fitting the descending limb of MEFV curves by a fully automated procedure providing a 0 to 10 score of emphysema severity. ESI was computed in COPD patients enrolled in the CLIMA Study. Results: the vast majority of ESI values ranged from 0 to 4, compatible with no-to-mild/moderate emphysema component. A limited proportion of patients showed ESI values >4, compatible with severe-to-very severe emphysema. ESI values were greatly dispersed within each GOLD class indicating that GOLD classification cannot discriminate emphysema and conductive airways changes in patients with similar airflow limitation. ESI and diffusing capacity (DLCO) were significantly correlated (p<0.001). However, the great dispersion in their correlation suggests that ESI and DLCO reflect partially different anatomo-functional determinants in COPD.Conclusions: airflow limitation has heterogenous determinants in COPD. Inflammatory and destructive changes may combine in CT densitometric alterations that cannot be detected by standard spirometry. ESI computation from spirometric data helps to define the prevailing pathogenetic mechanism underlying the measured airflow limitation. ESI could be a reliable advancement to select large samples of patients in clinical or epidemiological trials, and to compare different pharmacological treatments.

Abstract The article deals with the Protestant genre ‘Lügende’ (word combined from ‘Legende’ [legend] and ‘Lüge’ [lie]) as a disparagement of Roman Catholic legends in the 16th century. The investigation concentrates on paratextualisation as elementary invective mode of ‘Lügenden’. The analytical focus on titles, marginalia and so called ‘reminders’ (‘Erinnerungen’) shows the correlation between the generic term ‘Legende’ resp. ‘Lügende’ and the invective pattern of language use ‘Lügende’. According to this, the article discusses ‘Lügende’ as a communicative genre. Furthermore, by understanding ‘Lügende’ as a meta genre, whose paratexts are its basic elements of metaization, paratexts refer to text transgressions. Therefore, they are specified as secondary forms of religious communication during the denominational conflicts and negotiation processes in the 16th century.

Almost fifty years ago Chinese composer Chou Wen-chung proposed a musical “re-merger” of East and West. For many Chinese composers of today a sense of historical continuity and an awareness of inherited musical traditions are important contributor to cultural identity, and a basis on which to build the future. The generation that emerged after the Cultural Revolution found new freedoms, and has become, at the beginning of the twentyfirst century, a significant presence on the international musical stage, as the paradigm shifts away from being European-centered, to a culture belonging to the “global village”. As with many other Chinese composers of my generation, the creation of new compositions is both a personal expression and a manifestation of cultural roots. Techniques of “integration” and “translation” of musical elements derived from traditional Chinese music and music-theatre are a part of my musical practice. The use of traditional Chinese instruments, often in combination with Western instruments, is a no longer a novelty. The written exegesis examines some of the characteristic elements of xìqǜ (the generic term for all provincial Chinese operas), including dǎ (percussion - an enlarged interpretation of dǎ, as found in chuānjù gāoqiāng Sichuan gāoqiān opera), bǎnqiāng (The musical style that characterizes Chinese xìqǚ), and niànbái (recitation and dialogue), as well as the kuàibǎnshū (storytelling with percussion) of qǚyì (a term to use to include all folk genres), and shāngē (mountain song). The techniques employed in integrating and translating these elements into original compositions are then analyzed. In the second volume of the thesis the scores of five compositions are presented, four of the five works are set in Chinese, exploring the dramatic aspects of language, and may be considered music-theatre, one being an opera scene intended for stage production.

Situated cognition examines how the human mind is affected by being in a physical body and a natural and sociomaterial environment, influencing how a person perceives, learns, knows, reasons, decides, and acts. Within the generic term “situated cognition” are various distinctions in which cognition is embodied, embedded, extended, distributed, dynamical, or enactive. In this entry, these views of cognition are explored through influential works in anthropology, philosophy, and cognitive science.

SUMMARY Neutropenia is a generic term that indicates a reduction of neutrophils below the threshold for age and race. This condition encompasses a number of diseases with a wide range of duration and severity. In the present paper, the approach to diagnosis and treatment of neutropenia has been reviewed and implemented with the knowledge acquired during the last decade, by a group of experts, 10 years after the first publication. The diagnostic itinerary highlights the most important tools available to define the type of neutropenia and updates the list of genes causative of the disease. In addition, the present paper underlines the progresses towards a better definition of “primary autoimmune neutropenia” without remission which often hides different diseases. Moreover, indications on how to speed up neutropenia diagnosis and the indications to perform the bone marrow examination in the genetic forms, are given. The management and treatment of the “well-known” diseases and “special situations” are also reviewed giving literature derived and expert opinion-based suggestions tailored on the single patient/diagnosis.
