AbstractCombination of bioactive material such as hydroxyapatite (HAp) with antibacterial agents would have great potential to be used as bone implant materials to avert possible bacterial infection that can lead to implant-associated diseases. The present study aimed to develop an antibacterial silver nanoparticle-decorated hydroxyapatite (HAp/AgNPs) nanocomposite using chemical reduction and thermal calcination approaches. In this work, natural HAp that was extracted from chicken bone wastes is used as support matrix for the deposition of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to produce HAp/AgNPs nanocomposite. XRD, FESEM-EDX, HRTEM, and XPS analyses confirmed that spherical AgNPs were successfully synthesized and deposited on the surface of HAp particles, and the amount of AgNPs adhered on the HAp surface increased with increasing AgNO3 concentration used. The synthesized HAp/AgNPs nanocomposites demonstrated strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, where the antibacterial efficiency is relied on the amount and size of deposited AgNPs. In addition, the in vitro bioactivity examination in Hank’s balanced salt solution showed that more apatite were grown on the surface of HAp/AgNPs nanocomposite when AgNO3 concentration used >1 wt.%. Such nanocomposite with enhanced bioactivity and antibacterial properties emerged as a promising biomaterial to be applied for dentistry and orthopedic implantology.

The use of extended standard functional analysis of maintenance in the design phase of vehicle structure analysis is presented for the first time, where a matrix of the degree of importance of modules or parts, a matrix size between costs and benefits (costs–benefits), and a logistic support matrix (support index and repair time) are used. The use of these methods allows a designer to be able to determine, in the very early phase of the construction process, the important factors (structure, component price, reliability, repair costs, response time, logistic supportability) that have a major impact on vehicle maintenance. Extended functional analysis also allows us to define critical structures in the project specification of vehicles. A crucial issue in functional analysis is the very extensive implementation of research, drawing conclusions and findings with the basic goal of determining a set of indicators for the verification of assumptions and hypotheses.

Hierarchically porous (HP) zeotype materials (possessing both micropores and mesopores) offer improved diffusional access to intra-framework active sites, analogous to mesoporous materials, yet retain the high selectivity of the microporous (MP) bulk. We have recently designed crystalline hierarchically porous silicoaluminophosphates (SAPOs) with enhanced mass-transport characteristics, which can lead to significant improvement in catalytic activity and catalyst lifetime. In this study, we have prepared PdAu bimetallic nanostructures supported on HP-SAPO frameworks by an incipient impregnation of metal precursors followed by H2 reduction at 300 °C, for the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. PdAu NPs supported on HP framework displayed significantly enhanced catalytic activities, when compared with their MP analogues, clearly highlighting the benefits of introducing hierarchical porosity in the SAPO support matrix.
