In surface mining operations, the operating costs of truck-shovel system constitutes 50-60% ofthe total. Only a little save in the operation costs in this system will bring large profit for the mines. Dueto many investment periods, the capacity of both trucks and shovels in Cao Son surface coal mine isdifferent. This leads to the low efficiency and the difficulty in dispatching strategy for the mine. Thispaper presents the current situation and selection of advanced dispatching strategy for increasing theefficiency trucks and shovels at this surface coal mine. The results show the detailed match factor reflectsthe state of each team of loader and trucks and should be use as the indicator for dispatching decision forthe heterogeneous truck and shovel fleet at Cao Son surface coal mine.

The restoration of surface mining is a key to meet the global ecosystem restoration target. With increased data accessibility and computing tool capabilities, it becomes possible to expand mine restoration monitoring from single mine sites to multiple mine sites on a large scale. This study constructed a new index, Mine Landscape Restoration Index (MLRI), by coupling Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) to simultaneously monitor the restoration of regional multiple mine sites. We analyze historical and future trends of restoration using Mann-Kendall test, Sen’ slope, and Hurst exponent for MLRI time series. The restoration effects of 46 surface coal mine sites located in the northwestern ecologically fragile region of China from 2000 to 2019 were assessed, based on 3675 Landsat images on Google Earth Engine. The results showed that MLRI was effective in identifying restoration areas and processes in surface mine sites, which was validated by high-resolution images and field investigation of mine samples. The restoration area overall percentage was significantly higher in mines started mining before 2000 than after 2000. According to the restoration effects, we clustered the 46 sites into high, medium, and low restoration area percentage clusters with 13, 11, and 22 mine sites, respectively. Individual clusters have aggregation characteristics within each mine region, but are distributed irregularly across the different six mine regions. This study provides a new approach to monitoring the restoration of surface coal mine sites and inform government managers in developing mine restoration programs and sustainable mining development plans.

Abstract. Fault architecture and fracture network evolution (and resulting bulk hydraulic properties) are highly dependent on the mechanical properties of the rocks at the time the structures developed. This paper investigates the role of mechanical layering and pre-existing structures on the evolution of strike–slip faults and fracture networks. Detailed mapping of exceptionally well exposed fluvial–deltaic lithologies at Spireslack Surface Coal Mine, Scotland, reveals two phases of faulting with an initial sinistral and later dextral sense of shear with ongoing pre-faulting, syn-faulting, and post-faulting joint sets. We find fault zone internal structure depends on whether the fault is self-juxtaposing or cuts multiple lithologies, the presence of shale layers that promote bed-rotation and fault-core lens formation, and the orientation of joints and coal cleats at the time of faulting. During ongoing deformation, cementation of fractures is concentrated where the fracture network is most connected. This leads to the counter-intuitive result that the highest-fracture-density part of the network often has the lowest open fracture connectivity. To evaluate the final bulk hydraulic properties of a deformed rock mass, it is crucial to appreciate the relative timing of deformation events, concurrent or subsequent cementation, and the interlinked effects on overall network connectivity.
