AbstractPatients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) report fatigue more frequently than healthy population, but the precise mechanisms underlying its presence are unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of fatigue in IBD and its relation with potential causative factors. A survey on fatigue, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and the presence of sarcopenia and malnutrition, was sent by email to 244 IBD outpatients of the Gastroenterology Unit of Academic Hospital of Padua. Demographics and clinical data, including the levels of fecal calprotectin (FC) and C-reactive protein (CRP), and current pharmacological treatments were obtained from patients’ medical records. Ninety-nine (40.5%) subjects answered the survey. Ninety-two (92.9%) patients reported fatigue, with sixty-six having mild to moderate fatigue and twenty-six severe fatigue. Multivariate analysis showed that abnormal values of CRP (OR 5.1), severe anxiety (OR 3.7) and sarcopenia (OR 4.4) were the factors independently associated with severe fatigue. Fatigue has a high prevalence in subject affected by IBD. Subjects with altered CRP, sarcopenia and severe anxiety appear more at risk of severe fatigue.

Assessment of the quality of translation is one of the important activities in translation. The translation assessment can be seen from three aspects: accuracy, clarity, and naturalness. This study aims to reveal the accuracy and fatigue of the translation results of students' Arabic-Indonesian official manuscripts, considering that researchers rarely touch the spiciness aspect than the translation's accuracy and reasonableness. This research uses the descriptive analysis method and content analysis model. The research sample is six graduate students in Arabic Language Education at the Indonesia University of Education. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. From the results of this study, the researchers obtained several findings, namely: first, the level of mastery was very high, spread as many as eight data (44.4%), the moderate level of intelligence was spread as many as six data (33.3%), and the level of intelligence lacked as many as four data. (22.2%). Second, the level of fatigue in the translation of the official text for high levels of friction is as many as ten data (55.5%), there are five data (27.7%) for moderate fatigue, and three data (16.6%) is less tired.  So, from the results of this study, it is concluded that fatigue dominates as much as ten data (55.5%) compared to the very high level of mastery where there are only eight data (44.4%).

Background: Fatigue is a vital concern among mothers of hospitalized children but it remains relatively unexplored. Parenting efficacy is parent’s competence in taking care of the children. The present study was aimed to assess the level of fatigue and parenting efficacy among mothers of hospitalized children and to identify the correlation between them. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 112 mothers of hospitalized children in paediatric medical ward of a tertiary care centre. Participants were recruited through convenient sampling. Socio-demographic proforma was used to collect the data concern with socio demographic details, Chalder’s fatigue scale was used to assess the level of fatigue and parenting sense of competence (PSOC) scale was used to assess the level of parenting efficacy of mothers. Distribution of demographic variables, level of fatigue and level of parenting efficacy were expressed in frequency and percentage. Correlation between the level of fatigue and level of parenting efficacy was assessed by Karl Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Among 112 mothers 83.9% of them had moderate fatigue and only 42% had good parenting efficacy, Karl Pearson correlation had shown a negative correlation (r=-0.002). Age and occupation had shown significant association with level of fatigue (p=0.004,  p=0.019 respectively). Conclusions: In order to provide family centered care to the children, strategies should be implemented in all paediatric care units to reduce fatigue and to improve parenting efficacy among mothers of hospitalized children.

Abstract Background: Fatigue is defined as an overwhelming sense of tiredness not responsive to rest or sleep, and it affects every day occupations, social functioning, and work. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) report fatigue more frequently than healthy population, but the precise mechanisms underlying its presence are unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of fatigue in IBD and its relation with potential causative factors. Methods: A survey consisting of different questionnaires that aimed to evaluate fatigue, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and the presence of sarcopenia and malnutrition, was sent by email to 244 IBD outpatients of the Gastroenterology Unit of Academic Hospital of Padua . Demographics and clinical data, including the levels of fecal calprotectin (FC) and C-reactive protein (CRP), and current pharmacological treatments were obtained from patients’ medical records. Results: Ninety-nine (40.5%) subjects answered the survey. Ninety-two (92.9%) patients reported fatigue, with sixty-six having mild to moderate fatigue and twenty-six severe fatigue. After univariate analysis, subjects reporting severe fatigue were more likely to have abnormal values of CRP (OR 3.6) and to demonstrate scores suggesting the presence of sarcopenia, malnutrition, anxiety, depression, compromised sleep quality, and lower quality of life scores. Multivariate analysis showed that abnormal values of CRP (OR 5.1), severe anxiety (OR 3.7) and sarcopenia (OR 4.4) were the factors independently associated with severe fatigue. Conclusion: Fatigue has a high prevalence in subject affected by IBD. Subjects with altered CRP, sarcopenia and severe anxiety appear more at risk of severe fatigue.

Chronic kidney disease is an irreversible and slow-progressing disorder of kidney function so that the kidneys are unable to maintain the body's metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance and cause uremia which requires dialysis or kidney transplantation. Hemodialysis is management to treat chronic kidney disease that is carried out for life so that the complications that often arise are fatigue, cramps, anxiety, pain. The phenomenon found in the Hemodialysis Room of the Tugurejo Hospital Semarang, there were 34% of the 84 patients who experienced fatigue which was characterized by lethargy, weakness, drowsiness, dizziness. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design. The sample size is 4 respondents in the intervention group without a control group. Measurement of the level of fatigue (pre and post-test) using the PFS (Piper Fatigue Scale) which contains 22 subjective statements. Predialytic Exercise intervention is given for 5 sessions with a duration of 10-15 minutes. The results of this study indicate that the fatigue level of hemodialysis patients has decreased after the intervention of predialytic exercise for 5 sessions. The fatigue score of respondents 1 has decreased from a score of 4.8 (moderate fatigue) to 3.2 (mild fatigue), respondent 2 from a score of 6.3 (moderate fatigue) to 4.3 (moderate fatigue), respondent 3 from score 9 (severe fatigue) to 7 (severe fatigue), and respondent 1 from a score of 4.9 (moderate fatigue) to 2.4 (mild fatigue). The results of this study indicate that there is a decrease in each dimension of fatigue levels so that predialytic exercise intervention is effective to reduce fatigue in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract Objective To examine associations of combined pain and fatigue severity with physical performance and quality of life in people with chronic knee pain. Design Cross-sectional. Setting General community. Participants Adults (N = 193) aged ≥ 50 years with chronic knee pain. Methods Physical performance measures included Six-Minute Walk test, Timed Up and Go test, and 20-feet timed walk test. Quality of life (QOL) was measured by the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-12 Health Survey. Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) were used to evaluate pain and fatigue. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to examine associations of coexisting pain and fatigue severity with physical performance and quality of life. Results Based on BPI and BFI scores, participants were categorized into four severity groups: mild pain/fatigue; moderate pain/mild fatigue; mild pain/moderate fatigue; and moderate pain/fatigue (which included severe pain/fatigue). The moderate pain/fatigue group had significantly worse physical performance on Six Minute Walk (standardized beta (β) = − 0.22, 95% confidence interval (CI) [-.38, -.06], P < 0.05), poorer physical (β = − 0.41, 95% CI [-.61, -.20], P < 0.001) and mental QOL (β = − 0.26, 95% CI [-.46, -.07], P < 0.05) compared to the mild pain/fatigue group. Moreover, the mild pain/moderate fatigue group had significantly lower levels of mental QOL (β = − 0.27, 95% CI [-.44, -.10], P < 0.05) when compared to the mild pain/fatigue group. The moderate pain/mild fatigue group did not differ statistically compared to the mild pain/fatigue group. Conclusions Coexisting moderate pain and moderate fatigue were related to worse physical performance and QOL. Fatigue contributed to lower levels of mental QOL. Clinical assessment of fatigue in addition to pain should be included as a standard examination for chronic knee pain.

Background: Traditional rehabilitation with uniformed intensity would ignore individual tolerance and introduce the second injury to stroke survivors due to overloaded training. However, effective control of the training intensity of different stroke survivors is still lacking. The purpose of the study was to investigate the rehabilitative effects of electromyography (EMG)-based fatigue-controlled treadmill training on rat stroke model. Methods: Sprague–Dawley rats after intracerebral hemorrhage and EMG electrode implantation surgeries were randomly distributed into three groups: the control group (CTRL, n = 11), forced training group (FOR-T, n = 11), and fatigue-controlled training group (FAT-C, n = 11). The rehabilitation interventions were delivered every day from day 2 to day 14 post-stroke. No training was delivered to the CTRL group. The rats in the FOR-T group were forced to run on the treadmill without rest. The fatigue level was monitored in the FAT-C group through the drop rate of EMG mean power frequency, and rest was applied to the rats when the fatigue level exceeded the moderate fatigue threshold. The speed and accumulated running duration were comparable in the FAT-C and the FOR-T groups. Daily evaluation of the motor functions was performed using the modified Neurological Severity Score. Running symmetry was investigated by the symmetry index of EMG bursts collected from both hind limbs during training. The expression level of neurofilament-light in the striatum was measured to evaluate the neuroplasticity. Results: The FAT-C group showed significantly lower modified Neurological Severity Score compared with the FOR-T (P ≤ 0.003) and CTRL (P ≤ 0.003) groups. The FAT-C group showed a significant increase in the symmetry of hind limbs since day 7 (P = 0.000), whereas the FOR-T group did not (P = 0.349). The FAT-C group showed a higher concentration of neurofilament-light compared to the CTRL group (P = 0.005) in the unaffected striatum and the FOR-T group (P = 0.021) in the affected striatum. Conclusion: The treadmill training with moderate fatigue level controlled was more effective in motor restoration than forced training. The fatigue-controlled physical training also demonstrated positive effects in the striatum neuroplasticity. This study indicated that protocol with individual fatigue-controlled training should be considered in both animal and clinical studies for better stroke rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND Fatigue has been defined as a feeling of weakness subjectively, also expressed as extreme tiredness and energy loss due to illness or physical or mental exertion. Differences of quality of fatigue between healthy controls and cancer patients have been suggested. Moreover, these are due to heightened degree of expression of fatigue in cancer patients. We wanted to determine the prevalence of fatigue in patients suffering from head & neck cancer and receiving chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy and evaluate the fatigue related impact on quality of life. METHODS This is a cross sectional study done among patients of head & neck cancer, receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, in the Department of Oncology, Surgery and Pathology, K.D. Medical College Hospital & Research Center, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Department of Radiation Oncology, Grecian Superspeciality Hospital, Mohali. PG Department of Radiotherapy, Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre, S.C.B. Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack. Duration of study is 2013 December 2014 November and 2019 March - 2020 July. Forty-one patients were studied. RESULTS Out of twenty-four patients who were treated with radiotherapy, nine patients had mild fatigue; fifteen patients had moderate fatigue; and no patient had severe fatigue. Among seventeen patients who received chemotherapy, fourteen patients reported mild fatigue, two reported moderate fatigue, and one patient reported severe fatigue. CONCLUSIONS Different anticancer therapies cause Cancer Related Fatigue (CRF); those could be chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Severity of fatigue was more in radiotherapy as compared to chemotherapy group. KEYWORDS Cancer, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Fatigue, Quality of Life (QOL)

Introduction: Lecturers are workers who are actively involved in educational, research and community service activities at a college. Many duties and responsibilities of lecturers in their work can cause fatigue which is the body's response as a defense mechanism when the work exceeds its capacity. Different capacities can be assessed based on gender which also allows differences in response to the problem. The inability to cope with a problem or job produces a feeling of depression which can also be called as stress. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between gender and work stress with fatigue at a faculty lecturers at a university in Surabaya. Method: This research was an analytical descriptive study in a faculty lecturers at a university in Surabaya. The study design was cross-sectional. Data were obtained through the results of a questionnaire distributed to lecturers who have met the criteria, as many as 43 respondents. Results: The study showed that 16 female respondents (57.2%) experienced moderate fatigue. About 19 respondents (63.3%) had mild stress and experienced mild fatigue. The correlation value between gender and fatigue was 0.816 and the strong correlation between work stress and fatigue was 0.000. This value indicated that there was no correlation between gender and fatigue, but there was a strong and direct correlation between work stress and fatigue. Conclusion: The occurrence of fatigue is not influenced by gender and high fatigue can be influenced by the high work stress felt by them. Keywords:fatigue, gender, lecturer, work stress
