This chapter examines practical applications of an educational program designed to teach Turkish gifted second, third, and fourth grade students programming using Scratch, an online programming website (https://scratch.mit.edu). This qualitative research study was conducted with gifted identified students in an elementary school in Ankara's Altındağ district. Qualitative data collection methods were used. The study found program strengths included practical orientation, student independence, student free expression, computer literacy, and interdisciplinary connections. Additionally, providing a variety of tools and equipment, using Scratch, having a course web site, and on-line resource sharing were also seen as strengths by the participants. Perceived weaknesses were technical difficulties, the limited number of course hours, some of Scratch's negative features, inadequate help at particular points, and negative situations caused by gender and grade level differences. Results indicate preliminary knowledge of participant computer literacy as important to programming success.

This study determined the management practices of school heads, organizational behavior, and performance of teachers in the distance learning environment. Fifty-five (55) public school principals and one thousand five hundred seven (1507) teachers were the respondents of the study. The researcher utilized the descriptive-correlational examination plan, which utilized the adopted and modified questionnaires to assess and measure the variables under study. The statistical tools used to analyze the data gathered were: Frequency and Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. Findings revealed that the management practices, organizational behavior, and performance of teachers were relevant to the distance learning environment. The findings were used to determine the strategic plan model to be proposed by the DepEd and school officials. Since the school heads' management practices are assessed to a high extent, it may be sustained by introducing innovations in their respective stations, which will focus on how the instructional programs may be carried out to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of the DepEd.  This may be done by involving the teachers in the instructional decisions to be made as well as in crafting the different plans to be implemented in the school context. The teachers may be exposed to seminars and capability building to further enhance their teaching pedagogy as well as their skills in the different aspects of the instructional program in the context of the new normal in the educational system.

This study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of using a phonological awareness-based instructional program in developing the phonetic sequential-memorization skill among students with learning disabilities in the Aseer region. The study sample consisted of forty students from the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grades, selected from schools in the Directorate of Education in the Aseer region. The sample was diagnosed by the special education teacher as having learning disabilities. The study used the quasi-experimental methodology and divided the sample into an experimental group and a control group. After applying the instructional program, the results showed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in acquiring the phonetic sequential-memorization skill. The results showed no statistically significant differences in the phonetic sequential-memorization skill due to the difference of grade. It is concluded that the instructional program has a continuing effect in developing the phonetic sequential-memorization skill among students with learning disabilities in the Aseer region.

Castañeda v. Pickard mandated that educational programs for emergent bilinguals be tested for program efficacy. As English language development (ELD) curricular materials are one part of an instructional program, we assess this mandate by examining the effectiveness of ELD materials in Texas, a large, diverse U.S. state with large numbers of emergent bilingual (EB) students. Using local linear matching, we find robust evidence that schools that do not purchase any ELD curricula have significantly lower English language proficiency scores relative to schools that purchase state-adopted ELD materials. In contrast, there is no significant difference between schools that adopt the two most popular ELD curricula in the state. This study suggests that curriculum materials matter for EBs’ English proficiency and implies that states should take a more active role in ensuring students have access to these materials.
