Using numerical simulation, a search is carried out for designs of asymmetric barrier layers (ABLs) for a laser diode having GaAs waveguide and emitting at the wavelength λ = 980 nm. A pair of ABLs, adjoining the active region on both sides, blocks undesired charge carrier flows and suppresses parasitic spontaneous recombination in the waveguide layers. Optimal designs of ABLs based on AlGaAsSb and GaInP for blocking electrons and holes, respectively, are proposed that make it possible to reduce the parasitic recombination current down to less than 1% of the initial value. To suppress electron transport, an alternative structure based on three identical AlInAs barriers is also proposed. The GaAsP spacers separating these barriers from each other have different thicknesses. Due to this, its own set of quasi-bound (resonant) states is formed in each spacer that is different from the neighbor spacer set of states. As a result of this, the resonant tunneling channels are blocked: the parasitic electron flow is reduced by several tens of times in comparison with the case of spacers of equal thickness.

Self-powered triboelectric tachometers have wide application prospects in mechanical and electrical industries. However, traditional disc-type tachometers typically require large contact force, which burdens rotary load and increases frictional wear. To reduce the friction force of triboelectric tachometers, we present an alternative structure defined by flapping between rigid and flexible triboelectric layers. In this work, we further characterize this type of tachometer, with particular focus on the oscillating relationship between output voltage and rotation speed due to the plucking mechanism. This oscillating relationship has been demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally. For future self-powered triboelectric tachometers, the proved oscillating relationship can be applied as calibration criteria for further enhancing sensitivity and linearity in rotation measurement.

The effects of contact barrier height on performances of Si/BaSi2 p–n heterojunction, BaSi2 p–n homojunction and Si/BaSi2/Si p–i–n heterojunction were numerical calculated. Band energy diagram, built-in electric field, carrier generation and carrier transportation distributed in the devices are comprehensively investigated. BaSi2 p–n homojunction solar cells are very sensitive to front contact barrier height due to the high light absorption coefficient of front p-BaSi2 layer. Si/BaSi2 p–n heterojunction and BaSi2 p–n homojunction solar cells with donor concentration [Formula: see text] less than [Formula: see text] are apparently affected by back contact barrier height. The ideal [Formula: see text]-Si/BaSi2/[Formula: see text]-Si p–n solar cell achieves a high [Formula: see text] of 1.131 V, suggesting a promising and alternative structure to gain excellent BaSi2-based solar cells once the Urbach tail states and defects can be effectively eliminated. The results help to fundamentally understand operation mechanism and provide intuitive guidance for achieving high-efficiency BaSi2 solar cells.

Abstract This paper investigates P-stranding under A′-extraction in spatial PPs in Molise Slavic (MSL). After showing that P-stranding bijectively correlates with dative case on the Ground argument of P, I argue that the cases of extraction at stake instantiate grammatical convergence in the form of “pattern replication” (Matras & Sakel 2007). A′-extraction is licensed by the presence of borrowed additional functional material valuing and interpreting K(ase). The richer structure allows for KP to move out of the PP Phase without violating Anti-Locality. Both Italian and MSL secondary Ps displaying P-stranding are characterized as instantiating one of two possible structural options for P-stranding. The alternative structure is argued to be instantiated in Germanic, consistently with existing proposals (Abels 2012). The choice between the two options, as well as the productivity of the selected option in a given grammatical system, is a matter of (micro-)variation in the availability of functional vocabulary.

Abstract The Buddhist no-self and no-person revisionary metaphysics aims to produce a better structure that is motivated by the normative goal of eliminating, or at least reducing, suffering. The revised structure, in turn, entails a major reconsideration of our ordinary everyday person-related concerns and practices and interpersonal attitudes, such as moral responsibility, praise and blame, compensation, and social treatment. This essay explores the extent to which we must alter and perhaps discard some of our practical commitments in light of the Buddhist revisionism. I do not argue here that we should change our ordinary practices, concerns, and attitudes, or that the Buddhist metaphysics does succeed in presenting a better structure. Rather, I offer it as an alternative structure that should be considered seriously.

AbstractThe fusion oncogene RUNX1/RUNX1T1 encodes an aberrant transcription factor, which plays a key role in the initiation and maintenance of acute myeloid leukemia. Here we show that the RUNX1/RUNX1T1 oncogene is a regulator of alternative RNA splicing in leukemic cells. The comprehensive analysis of RUNX1/RUNX1T1-associated splicing events identifies two principal mechanisms that underlie the differential production of RNA isoforms: (i) RUNX1/RUNX1T1-mediated regulation of alternative transcription start site selection, and (ii) direct or indirect control of the expression of genes encoding splicing factors. The first mechanism leads to the expression of RNA isoforms with alternative structure of the 5’-UTR regions. The second mechanism generates alternative transcripts with new junctions between internal cassettes and constitutive exons. We also show that RUNX1/RUNX1T1-mediated differential splicing affects several functional groups of genes and produces proteins with unique conserved domain structures. In summary, this study reveals alternative splicing as an important component of transcriptome re-organization in leukemia by an aberrant transcriptional regulator.

The coronavirus pandemic has adversely affected all sectors globally including the education sector. Education institutes across all levels (preprimary, primary, secondary, and higher education) have closed in 188 countries across the globe. Prolonged closure of colleges and schools has forced the educational sector to adopt the online mode of teaching. But one question that is bothering most of the academicians is: Can this online mode of teaching standalone in the long run? To answer this question, our article has proposed an alternative model of delivering education in the time of crisis. This article also helps to explore and compare different modes of course delivery. It also tries to compare and contrast different modes of education through Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. This article limits its analysis to management education only. An in-depth systematic review from various research papers, articles, cases was done for this article to suggest the model. We found that the management education in India needs a paradigm shift in design, delivery, and assessment and as has been the trend, the trend-setter has to be the faculty in association with the learner. The article recommends that the college administration and faculties should design curriculum in such a system which is more practice-oriented, has more interning hours and where theory gets tested and tried in the field.
