Digitalization of payments related to education has played a significant role in driving the fourth agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aimed at providing free, equitable, and quality primary and secondary education to children by 2030. Since the launch of mobile money transfer (MMT) technologies by Safaricom in Kenya in 2007, many providers have developed a range of services to ensure efficient, transparent, and sustainable means of paying for school and college fees. This has led to enhanced teacher-student interaction times, reduced absenteeism, improved security in handling money, and made it easier for families to save, plan, and educate their children. This chapter reviews key success cases of countries and institutions that have digitalized payments and other education services to empower disadvantaged communities.

This paper analyses the main determinants of the use of mobile money transfer services by Malian Internet users in a mobile situation. Data collected from 1739 individual mobile Internet users of the study by the solidarity and industrial economy research group (GRESI) were used. After having implemented the Logit model which is a binomial regression model, our results show that having an education level below secondary level, having an age between 15-35 years old and the high cost of connection have a negative impact on the probability of using mobile money via mobile Internet in Mali. While income, urban area of residence, computer skills and occupations: worker, entrepreneur, trader and farmer positively influence the use of mobile money transfer services through the mobile internet.

Nowadays, the E-payment systems have been considered to be the safe way of money transfer in most of modern institutes and companies. Moreover, the security is important side of these systems to ensure that the money transfer is done safely. Software engineering techniques are used for guaranteeing the applying of security and privacy of such systems. In this paper, a secure E-payment system is proposed based on software engineering model and neural network technology. This system uses different proposed algorithms for applying authentication to the devices of users as mobile application. They are used to control the key management in the system. It uses the neural network back-propagation method for ensuring the security of generated keys that have sufficient random levels. The proposed system is tested over numerous cases and the obtained results show an efficient performance in terms of security and money transfer. Moreover, the generated keys are tested according to NIST standards.

Purpose Digital service innovations have enabled service market access, transforming Africa. This paper aims to investigate individual and contextual drivers of experience value of mobile money transfer (MMT) service during post-adoption given impacts of individual/cultural characteristics in Senegal. Design/methodology/approach Mixed methods. Study 1 qualitatively investigates the effects of individual-contextual drivers on the experience value of MMT and behavioral intentions. Study 2 quantitatively tests the main causal effects between drivers and MMT. Findings Conceptual models of experience value including ethical and social dimensions proposed in MMT are positively related to behavioral intentions. Need for social interaction (NSI), self-efficacy (SEFF) and social pressure (SP) – sources of experience value creation/destruction – must be integrated into business practices. Results show the indirect positive influence of NSI on behavioral intentions through MMTs experience value. Moreover, traditional cultural orientation (TCO) is a source of value creation/destruction. Managers should build ethical relations with users, integrate social functions in MMT and understand users’ cultural and individual characteristics for better customer relationship management policy. Originality/value Few studies examine how MMT experience creates/destroys value in a Sub-Saharan African context, specifically in Senegal. The authors show that SP might destroy value and reveal how individual variables such as SEFF, NSI and TCO affect experience value creation/destruction. Surprisingly, NSI creates value, revealing MMT as hybrid self-service technology.

Abstract With the rise of the Islamic State and the corresponding war in Syria, which has caused an international refugee crisis, the combat of terrorism has, again, become a major goal for European authorities. One popular approach to the combat of terrorism is to interrupt the funding of terrorist organisations. Whereas other studies have focused mainly on the implementation of prevention measures, this study investigates terrorist financing methods from the offender’s perspective with a focus on so-called money transfer systems to reveal weaknesses in the regulation of terrorist financing in general and money transfer systems in particular. For this purpose, qualitative interviews with 15 presumed providers of illegal financial services and 15 European compliance experts were conducted. This paper has implications for law enforcement, regulatory authorities, investigators and financial service providers. Innovative measures such as the use of electronic surveillance and expanding the jurisdiction of undercover agents are suggested.

Abstract Technological developments have always led to changes in all aspects of our lives. Crypto currency is one of those changes. As a result of those changes, thousands of currencies such as bitcoin, ripple, litecoin and ethereum have evolved and have found a use in business. The present study focuses upon Ripple and tries to explain its effects on banks and business theoretically. It has been stated that the money transfer performed through Ripple is faster and more economical when compared to present systems. Additionally, it has been realised that the present SWIFT system has been influenced by that speed and economy, and therefore taken considerable technologic steps with an effort to improve its system.

The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), according to its mandate under the Act of 1999 and its authority, in line with Section 55 and 39, on November 15, 2016, issue a regulation (No. CBL/RSD/004/2016) on payment of Inbound money transfers, which was ordered by former President of the Republic of Liberia, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The objective of this regulation was to support the effective management of the foreign exchange market. The regulation applies to all licensed financial institutions involved in money transfer services, such as Western Union and MoneyGram. The regulation did not apply to inbound money transfers that are made using recipient accounts at commercial banks. Conclusion: The theoretical framework presented in this research suggests that commercial banks, be precise, the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI), are more likely to suffer a decrease in commission on inbound money transfers throughout the three years (3) of restrictions.
