In order to research the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of stainless/carbon steel bimetal plate, the annealing process at 700°C with different times was carried out for stainless/carbon steel bimetal plate. Because the carbon content of carbon steel was higher than that of stainless steel, the carbon would diffuse from carbon steel to stainless steel in the bimetal plate during the annealing process. The carbon diffusion would cause the thickness of the decarburized layer in carbon steel and the carbon content of stainless steel to increase. The carbon diffusion would be ongoing with the annealing process until the carbon content of stainless steel reached 0.08%. The higher carbon content could help in the formation of more chromium-depleted regions in the stainless steel surface, causing the stainless steel in the bimetal plate to have a poorer surface corrosion resistance than that of stainless steel under the same annealing conditions.

Experiments were carried out with different process parameters to investigate the effects of used parameters on corrosion resistance of TiN coatings obtained. In experiments, TiN imitation gold decoration coatings were prepared on 1Cr13 pen-point and brass chromium plating pen-coil by multi-arc ion plating method. The phase composition of TiN coatings was measured by x-ray diffraction. The corrosion resistance of TiN coatings was tested by salt-mist and artificial-sweat experiments. The relationship between corrosion resistance of coatings and process parameters were analyzed. Therefore, the optimum process parameters were achieved suitable for plating coatings on substrates of 1Cr13 pen-point and brass chromium plating pen-coil with good imitation gold. Imitation gold plating layers obtained have good gloss, corrosion resistance, high hardness, wear resistance, and easy to maintain. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of coatings is more easily influenced by changes of PN2 and Vbom than that of matrix-bias voltage. The TiN coatings are of resistant to corrosion no matter they are in single or multi phase structure. The optimum parameters of achieving good corrosion resistance of TiN coatings are PN2=0.48Pa, Vbom=400V,bias=-20V. Under the optimum conditions, the obtained surface corrosion resistance state of the coatings can reach at least eight grades, even above ten grades.

Ni–B4C composite coatings on carbon steel substrates with various contents of B4C nano-particulates were prepared by electrodeposition in Ni plating bath containing B4C nano-particulates. Microhardness, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Tafel polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were used to compare pure nickel coatings and Ni–B4C composite coatings. Pure Ni coating microhardness is lower than that of Ni–B4C coatings and the microhardness of the composite coatings increases with the increase of the content of B4C nano-particulates. The effects of various contents of B4C nano-particulates on the corrosion resistance were investigated and it was found that the best anti–corrosion property of Ni–B4C composite coatings is at 6 g/L B4C in the bath formulation.

Results of the developed industrial technology of restoration of a surface corrosion-resistant staly are presented by method of laser building up. The comparative analysis of a microstructure of the built-up wearproof layer, an alloyage zone with material of a basis and diffusive zone at the different technological modes of building up is given. Influence of morphology of particles of additive powder on parametrical characteristics of the roller received by laser gas powder building up is investigated. The optimum modes of building up on a substrate from steel 12Cr18Ni10Ti are set. Tests for firmness against intercrystalline corrosion of the built-up powder compositions are executed by the AM method. Metalgraphic assessment of corrosion resistance is presented.

Electroless Ni-Cu-P alloy coatings were deposited on the ordinary steel substrate in an acidic hypophosphite-type plating bath. These coatings were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an X-ray diffraction. The micrograph shows that coating presents a nodular aspect and is relatively homogeneous and very smooth. The EDX analysis shows that the coating contains 12 wt.% of phosphorus element with a predominance of nickel element. In addition, the anticorrosion properties of the Ni-Cu-P coatings in 1 M HCl, 1 M H2SO4, and 3% NaCl solutions were investigated using Tafel polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and SEM/EDX analysis. The result showed a marginal improvement in corrosion resistance in 3% NaCl solution compared to acidic medium. It also showed that the corrosion mechanism depends on the nature of the solution.
