Lack of awareness and knowledge of environmental protection, many people discard cooking oil waste. According to several studies, cooking oil waste can be processed into more valuable products through certain processes that require energy and material. Biodiesel is an example. Beside biodiesel, the production process also produces non-product output. Thus, efforts to utilize cooking oil waste into more valuable products also have a negative impact on the environment. This study aims to measure the environmental impact of biodiesel production from waste cooking oil and compare it if it is discharged to landfill without the recycling process. Measurement of environmental impacts is carried out using a Life Cycle Assessment. Measurement of the environmental impact of biodiesel processing from cooking oil waste is based on a process carried out at a research institute. The measurement results state that the disposal of cooking oil waste has an adverse effect on the ecotoxicity category. Whereas the processing of cooking oil waste into biodiesel has advantages in the categories of climate change, the formation of photochemical oxidants, fine dust, oil and gas depletion, and water pressure indicators. the level of eco efficiency from processing waste cooking oil to biodiesel produces a value close to one which means that the production process is affordable but not yet sustainable.

Economic growth can be assessed through industrial development. However, problems arise regarding the discharge of waste into lakes or rivers, leading to biodiversity loss and endangering human health. A study conducted in the UK stated that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were the largest contributor to waste and pollution. This was because they ignored the regulations governing environmental management. As happened in the Bekonang alcohol industry center, the waste from the alcohol production process polluted the Bengawan Solo tributary as the Water Supply Corporation (WSC). In order to overcome these problems, we need a measurement that can increase production efficiency. Eco-efficiency is a concept that combines efficiency and economy based on efficiency principles. The different models are proposed to measure the eco-efficiency of production, namely with a weighting system that aggregates environmental results. The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) enables aggregation without the need for subjective or normative judgments about weights. Although DEA does not require subjective or normative judgments, weight restrictions can be incorporated into the framework. The purpose of this study was to determine the eco-efficiency of the Bekonang alcohol production process using the economic results of the production process and the environmental impact assessed through a life cycle assessment (LCA). There were three products, namely 30% alcohol for consumption, 90% alcohol for medical purposes, and hand sanitizer. The environmental impact was assessed from a life cycle assessment, while the economic assessment was determined by calculating the net profit for each product at a capacity of 100 liters/day. Economic assessment can be divided into two perspectives, namely the Social Perspective (SP) and Company Perspective (CP). From the modeling results, the most eco-efficient production process was hand sanitizer with an eco-efficiency value of 1.ABSTRAKPertumbuhan ekonomi dapat dinilai melalui perkembangan industri, tetapi masalah muncul terkait pembuangan limbah ke danau atau sungai yang menyebabkan hilangnya keanekaragaman hayati yang membahayakan kesehatan manusia. Penelitian yang dilakukan di Inggris menyatakan, jika penyumbang limbah dan polusi terbesar adalah dari usaha kecil menengah (UKM), karena mereka mengabaikan peraturan yang mengatur tentang pengelolaan lingkungan. Seperti yang terjadi di sentra industri alkohol Bekonang, limbah hasil proses produksi alkohol mencemari anak sungai Bengawan Solo sebagai suplai air PDAM. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut diperlukan suatu pengukuran yang dapat meningkatkan efisiensi produksi. Eko-efisiensi merupakan konsep yang menggabungkan efisiensi dan ekonomi berdasarkan prinsip efisiensi. Model yang berbeda diusulkan untuk mengukur eko-efisiensi pada suatu produksi, yaitu dengan sistem pembobotan yang mengagregasi hasil lingkungan. Analisis data envelopment analysis (DEA) memungkinkan agregasi tanpa membutuhkan penilaian subjektif atau normatif pada bobot. Meskipun DEA tidak memerlukan penilaian subjektif atau normatif, pembatasan bobot dapat dimasukkan ke dalam kerangka kerja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui nilai eko-efisiensi proses produksi alkohol Bekonang, menggunakan hasil ekonomi dari proses produksi dan dampak lingkungan, yang dinilai melalui life cycle assessment (LCA).Terdapat tiga produk yang dianalisi, alkohol 30% untuk konsumsi; alkohol 90% untuk keperluan medis; dan hand sanitizer. Dari hasil pemodelan yang telah dilakukan, proses produksi yang paling eko-efisien adalah hand sanitizer dengan nilai eko-efisiensi adalah 1.

The Impact

Every year, the total of plastic industry in Indonesia grows rapidly. Not only giving positive effects on economic, but industrial development also causing a negative impact on the environment. Those negative impacts are caused by inefficiently using of resources and industrial waste which could pollute the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the impact itself by using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The LCA could help us to take better decision to improve the production process and products which could minimize the energy consumption and resources. PT XYZ is a plastic injection company. This company hasn't collected, calculated and analysed their products and production process which may contribute to environmental damage. Therefore, this study will collect the data about the potential environmental impact which caused by the product of PT XYZ. LCA was performed at plastic car battery container type "X" and type "Y" using IMPACT 2002+ method in SimaPro8 software. The result of data calculation showing that the potential environmental impact is more dominant in these categories: respiratory inorganics, non-renewable energy, and global warming. The component which caused the greatest potential for respiratory inorganics and global warming is coming from electrical energy consumption (lignite).

Tofu is a typical Indonesian food. The tofu production process has its own impact on the environment because the rest of the production results in solid and liquid waste. If the processing or utilization of the waste products is not carried out, it will pollute the surrounding environment. The aim of this research is to identify the environmental impact of the tofu production process. The method used in this research is the method of mixed method simapro program assisted 7. From the results showed that the production process knows it can cause environmental pollution, it is seen from the damage category. Score a single score of 4076,345 Pt, with an environmental impact of Human Health of 1701.54 (41.7%), Ecosystem Quality of 1409.057 (34.6%), and Resources of 965.7484 (23.7%). Based on research results of several categories of the study, obtained on alternative improvements to reduce environmental impact by replacing firewood with biogas as fuel.     Keywords : Biogas, Life Cycle Assessment , Environmental Pollution, Production Know, SimaPro

Furniture industry is the industry that processes raw or semifinished material from wood, rattan, or other natural material, into products with higher value added and benefit. Because of a rise in consumer demand each year, the furniture industries should have much attention. High consumer demand may cause production process-related problems that damage the environment. Such environmental damage may be caused by waste, raw materials, or production process. High consumer demand in furniture industry brings negative impacts not only to the environment but also to the society. Social impact assessment is needed to evaluate how a product or a process influences workers, consumers, citizen, and value chain. This study uses life cycle assessment method with the help of SimaPro software to determine the environmental impact, and social-life cycle assessment to determine the social impact. The largest contributor to environmental impact is the use of acrylic varnish. Substitution acrylic varnish with woodstain-water based aims to lead to a circular economy by reducing adverse impacts on the environment. The replacement of acrylic varnish with woodstain water based reduces the environmental impact score by 24.8%. Social impacts score on the workers and local community stakeholder are categorized as poor.

In order to solve problems modular type camshafts have, that is, reducing weight, increasing oil filling time and designing multi-valve system, research was initiated about feasibility for DfE (Desing for Environmrnt) about ultralight camshaft . Through LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and properties and process evaluation, an attempt has been made to develop cost-effectvie process for ultiralight aluminum camshaft without the problems modular type camshaft have. The results clearly show 50% weight reduction achieved and better environmental impact of the ultralight aluminum camshaft compared with that of modular camshafts.

Olive oil is one of the most globally recognized high-value products, with 4 million hectares cultivated in the Mediterranean area. The production process involves many stages: farming, extraction, packing, and waste treatment. Each one of these stages should present critical points for the environmental impacts, and for this reason, the entire sector is adopting mitigation strategies to begin to be more sustainable. The mitigation actions’ efficiency should be evaluated through environmental indicators or environmental impact assessment by Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This review aimed to carry out an overview of recent papers (2011–2021) involving an LCA study in the olive oil supply chain by giving a framework of what is included in LCA studies and highlighting the main contributors to environmental impacts. The main scholarly literature databases have been exploited, highlighting a great increase in publications, especially from the producer countries. The review results reflect the heterogeneity of the production process. However, the use of pesticides, fertilizers, water, and fuel for machinery heavily weigh on the farming stage’s environmental impact. Finally, special focus was given to key elements of LCA studies in the olive oil supply chain, such as functional unit, system boundaries, impact categories, calculation method, and software widely used.

The ABC metal SME produces some wastes, such as liquid waste, solid waste, and smoke. The problem is hazardous waste dumped directly into the environment without any waste treatments which had bad impact on the environment around its SME. Therefore, this research is proposed to improve the production process of metal that can reduce the environmental impacts. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method is developed to identify all the processes that have an impact on the environment and also to calculate the energy used. The values of environmental impact are calculated using Simapro 9.0 Software. In addition, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is employed to determine the best alternative fuel according to four criteria, such as temperature, price, emission, and fuel consumption. The results show the process that has the greatest environmental impact is the metal smelting process. It is caused by the source fuel in this process was used oil. The usage of used oil can be the sources of air pollution that causing health problems in the respiratory tract such as bronchitis and asthma. Some alternative fuel was proposed, however, fuel gas is the best alternative among others according to the expert opinions. For the managerial insight, this research can be suggestion for SME to choose the best fuel in the production process that considering economic and environmental aspects.
