Analyses of the steady-state handling behaviour of an automobile and the stability of its steady-turning motion, based on a three degree of freedom mathematical model, are used to show that the steady behaviour and the stability are related similarly in the nonlinear region as in the well documented linear one. It is concluded that analysis and measurement of the steady behaviour will yield information on the stability of automobiles.

Experimental investigations of the effect of destabilizing heating on the vortex instability in a laminar boundary-layer flow of air along a concave surface are reported. The ranges of the parameters studied herein are Gr (Grashof number) from 0 to 70 and G (Go¨rtler number) from 0.46 to 9.0. The wavelength of the vortices remains unchanged with heating but the strength of the vortices is enhanced by heating. The amplitude of the vortices increases almost exponentially with the combined parameter (G2 + f Gr)1/2, where f is found to be between 0.3 and 0.4, until the nonlinear effects become important. In the nonlinear region the original sinusoidal wave form of the vortices becomes distorted and they meander in the lateral direction.

One of the most important members of steel structure’s connection region is beam-to-column connection. Rigid connection in steel moment frame has special role in the behavior of these structures and the fire resistance of these connections can be important. In this paper the behaviors of three common types of rigid connections in Iran under the effect of heat were studied by the use of numerical finite element methods through ABAQUS software. The models were verified by the use of an experimental model through elastic and plastic amplitudes up to collapse and during numerical results, and the effect of large deformation in the nonlinear region has also been considered. The results show that the connection with the end plate had a better performance against heat than other connections. Also reduced stiffness and lateral buckling in this connection were less than other connections.
