Abstract Background Homeopathy has been experiencing a period of expansion in Brazil due to its practical relevance in the face of new global and national health demands, culminating in the launch in 2006 of the National Policy for Integrative and Complementary Practices (NPICP) by the Ministry of Health of Brazil, which standardized and regularized the position of homeopathy within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). Aims To understand the impact of the guidelines proposed by the NPICP on homeopathy services in the SUS, specifically in the south-east region of Brazil, according to the perceptions of their managers. Methods This is a descriptive, exploratory research study with a qualitative approach, conducted in homeopathy services in the south-east region of Brazil, through semi-structured interviews and with data processed using content analysis. Results The data show the importance of the NPICP in regulating and offering homeopathy in the services studied. However, the NPICP's objective of promoting and fully developing integrative and complementary practices has not been achieved because it has failed to translate strategies into actions. Conclusions Though important to the development of homeopathy services in any given location, policies stated in the NPICP were revealed to have limited impact on the implementation and development of new services. Without further legislation, training programs and appropriate budget allocation, new services will be unable to thrive and their users unable to benefit from a more comprehensive approach to healthcare.

Reaction coordinate diagrams (RCDs) are chemical representations widely employed to visualize the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters associated with reactions. Previous research has demonstrated a host of misconceptions students adopt when interpreting the perceived information encoded in RCDs. This qualitative research study explores how general chemistry students interpret points and trends on a RCD and how these interpretations impact their inferences regarding the rate of a chemical reaction. Sixteen students participated in semi-structured interviews in which participants were asked to interpret the points and trends along provided RCDs and to compare relative reaction rates between RCDs. Findings derived from this study demonstrate the diversity of graphical reasoning adopted by students, the impact of students’ interpretations of the x-axis of a RCD on the graphical reasoning employed, and the influence of these ideas on inferences made about reaction rate. Informed by analytical frameworks grounded in the resources framework and the actor-oriented model of transfer, implications for instruction are provided with suggestions for how RCDs may be presented to assist students in recognizing the critical information encoded in these diagrams.

The use of ‘soft barriers’ to deter students with special educational needs (SEN) from accessing some schools has been reported in the Irish media. This article investigates the influence of ethos and culture on access to and inclusive practice in mainstream schools in Ireland. Ethos and culture are nebulous concepts yet are integral to how schools operate, how they present themselves and how they are perceived by the public. Findings from a small-scale, qualitative research study are used to illustrate this. In the study, the understandings and attitudes of principals, special education teachers and guidance counsellors in mainstream schools in relation to students with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) are investigated through the use of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. In line with international experiences, an argument is presented suggesting that many sections of the education system in Ireland, while seemingly having been irrevocably transformed in response to national policy on inclusion, preserve very traditional structures, organisation and attitudes due to issues of ethos and culture remaining largely unchallenged in the inclusion debate. This phenomenon appears to have greater impact at post-primary level. Cosmetic, surface-level changes impede meaningful, systemic change in terms of access and inclusive practice.

The teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) model has been extensively used in a vast array of settings. However, few TPSR studies have focused on preschool settings. The purpose of this action research study was to analyze the experiences of a program leader, her preschool children, and their parents throughout a TPSR program focused on transference of responsibility model goals. The participants were 25 preschool children, six parents, and a program leader involved in a preschool setting located in the north of Portugal. Data were collected through reflexive journaling, participant observations, semi-structured interviews, and focus group interviews. Findings suggest the TPSR model could be a useful instructional model for preschool teachers focused on providing social and emotional learning opportunities to their students. In order to foster transference, parents played a pivotal role in this process and were included in the intervention, which appeared to enhance life skill transfer.

This qualitative study identifies key factors that contribute to negative psychosocial outcomes for Inuit patients using the Iqaluit, Nunavut, medevac (used for emergency transfers) and medical transfer (for non-emergency cases) programs. The study also reports on the existence and appropriateness of social and cultural supports in hospitals and communities for medically transferred patients and their families. I analyzed results from a literature review, document analysis, and 20 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with health care professionals and policy and decision makers in Iqaluit and Ottawa, Ontario. Respondents were either directly involved in medevac and medical transfer programs or were health professionals who work with those using the services. In addition, variables impacting patient speed of recovery and overall mental health were considered, including isolation, social support, and emotional stress. Findings revealed that Inuit patients do experience a lack of social supports such as escorts and translators on medical trips south. They also often encounter a lack of cultural sensitivity once in the south, and suffer from homesickness and isolation. This study demonstrates that the current medical transfer system in Nunavut does not fully meet the psychosocial needs of Inuit patients and their families, which has direct effects on patients’ mental health and on medical outcomes of treatment in the south.

ᐅᓇ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓂᐅᓯᒪᔪᖅ ᐃᓕᓴᖅᓯᕗᖅ ᐱᓗᖅᑯᑕᐅᔪᓂᒃ ᑐᓂᕐᕈᑎᖃᖅᑐᓂᒃ ᐃᓅᓯᕐᒧᑦ ᐃᓱᒪᒃᑯᓪᓗ ᐃᓄᓐᓄᑦ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᐸᑦᑐᓄᑦ ᐊᑲᐃᓪᓕᐅᕈᑎᓂᒃ ᐊᖅᑯᑎᒋᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᐃᖃᓗᐃᑦ, ᓄᓇᕗᑦ ᑐᐊᕕᕐᓇᑐᒃᑯ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᖏᕐᕋᓂᒃᑯᑦ (ᑐᐊᕕᕐᓇᖏᑦᑐᑯᓪᓗ ᐊᖅᑯᑕᐅᕙᑦᑐᒃᑯᑦ). ᖃᐅᔨᓴᐅᑎ ᐅᓂᒃᑲᐅᓯᖃᕆᕗᖅ ᐅᓪᓗᒥ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓐᓂ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂᓗ ᐊᑐᐃᓐᓇᐅᒪᔪᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᑲᕐᕆᔾᔪᑕᐅᔪᓂᒃ ᐃᓅᖃᑎᒌᓐᓂᒃᑯᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓕᖅᑯᓯᒃᑯᑦ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᓯᒪᔪᓄᑦ ᐃᓚᖏᓐᓄᓪᓗ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑐᐃᔾᔪᑕᐅᔪᓂᒃ. ᕿᒥᕐᕈᓚᐅᕆᕗᖓ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᐅᑎᒥᓂᕐᓂᒃ ᐅᖃᓕᒫᒐᓕᐊᖑᓯᒪᔪᓂᒃ, ᐅᓂᒃᑳᓪᓗ ᕿᒥᕐᕈᔭᐅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᐊᕙᑎᑦ ᓈᔭᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᑦᑎᐊᖅᑐᑎᒃ, ᐊᐱᖅᑯᑎᓪᓗ ᐃᓚᖓᒍᑦ ᑎᑎᕋᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᓪᓗᑎᒃ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᖅᑐᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔭᖅᑎᖏᓐᓄᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐊᑐᐊᒐᓕᐅᖅᑎᓄᑦ ᐃᓱᒪᓕᐅᖅᑎᓄᓪᓗ ᐃᖃᓗᓐᓂ ᐋᑐᕚᒥᓗ, ᐋᓐᑎᐅᕆᐅᒥ. ᐊᐱᖅᓱᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᑐᐊᕕᕐᓇᖅᑐᒃᑰᕐᓂᑰᔪᑦ ᐊᐅᓪᓚᖅᑐᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᓐᓂ ᐅᕝᕙᓗᑭᐊᖅ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᖅᑐᓕᕆᓂᕐᒥ ᐃᖅᑲᓇᐃᔮᖃᐅᖅᑐᑎᒃ. ᑕᐃᒪᓗ, ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᓯᒪᔪᓄᑦ ᐱᔾᔪᑕᐅᔪᑦ ᐃᑉᐱᓐᓂᕈᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᐊᑲᐅᓯᕙᓪᓕᐊᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓱᒪᔾᔪᓯᖏᓐᓂᒃ, ᐃᓚᓕᐅᑦᑐᒋᑦ ᐅᖓᓯᑦᑐᒥᐅᑕᐅᓂᖏᑦ, ᐃᓄᓕᕆᓂᒃᑯᑦ ᐃᑲᔫᑕᐅᔪᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓱᒫᓗᓐᓇᖅᑐᑎᒍᑦ. ᖃᐅᔨᔾᔪᑕᐅᔪᑦ ᑐᑭᓯᓇᖅᓯᓚᐅᖅᑯᑦ ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐃᓄᓕᕆᓂᒃᑯᑦ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᓱᖅᑕᐅᓂᑭᑉᐸᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᓲᕐᓗ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑎᒡᒋᐊᖃᕋᑎᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᑐᓵᔨᑭᔅᓴᐸᑦᑐᑎᒃ ᖃᓪᓗᓈᓕᐊᕋᐃᒐᒥᒃ. ᐊᒥᒐᖅᓯᔾᔪᑕᐅᕙᑦᑐᑦ ᑐᑭᓯᔾᔪᑕᐅᔪᒋᕗᖅ ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐱᖅᑯᓯᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᓂᑭᓐᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᖅᑐᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ, ᐊᖏᕐᕋᓯᖅᐸᑦᑐᓪᓗ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓄᑑᓕᐅᑎᕙᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ. ᐅᓇ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᐅᑎ ᑕᑯᖅᑯᔾᔨᓚᐅᖅᑯᖅ ᒫᓐᓇᒃᑯᑦ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᕐᓂᕆᕙᑦᑕᖏᑦ ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥᐅᑕᐃᑦ ᐃᓚᖏᑕᓗ ᐊᑲᕐᕆᔮᓐᖏᒋᐊᖏᑕ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐃᓱᒪᖏᑎᒍᑦ ᐃᓄᓕᕆᓂᒃᑯᑎᒍᓪᓗ. ᑕᒪᒃᑯᐊ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᕕᓕᐊᖅᐸᑦᑐᑦ ᐃᓱᒪᔾᔪᓯᖏᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐋᓐᓂᐊᖏᑕ ᖃᓄᐃᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᐊᑦᑐᐃᕙᑦᑐᑦ ᖃᓪᓗᓈᓃᑎᓪᓗᒋᒃ.

Construction of the affective-representational circuit of adolescentes living with HIVAbstract: Describe how the affective-representational circuit of adolescents living with HIV is constructed and analyze the challenges that emerge from this construction for nursing knowledge and care. Exploratory research, developed at a referral hospital for treatment of HIV / AIDS in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with 42 HIV-positive adolescents. Data were collected through subject contextualization instrument and semi-structured interviews and analyzed based on the methodological propositions of the Ego-ecological theory and thematic content analysis. The construction of adolescents affective-representational circuit is mediated by a contextual psychological process, that takes place in the midst of experiences marked by the need to cover up the diagnosis in their daily relationships. The evaluation of this circuit is necessary for nursing practices since it configures possibilities to establish pathways that can give greater resolution to the health demands of adolescents living with HIV.Descriptors: Adolescent, Nursing Care, Seropositivity HIV. There is limited research that explores the experiences of how behavioural specialists actively involve people with a learning disability and challenging behaviour in the development of their positive behavioural support (PBS) plan. Accordingly, this exploratory research study aimed to explore this little understood area of practice. Methods: The study included semi-structured interviews comprised of nine Behavioural Specialists in three focus groups across two health boards. A descriptive thematic analysis study. Findings: Three major themes and 11 minor themes were identified illustrating how people with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge were involved in developing their PBS plan. Significantly, the themes illustrated the complexity of truly involving service users in the process. Conclusion: Inclusion of people with a learning disability and behaviours that challenge in their PBS plan poses significant challenges. Person-centred care struggles to be truly embedded in the PBS model.

In Romania, territorial/spatial development is understood as the process of transforming the geography of inhabited territories, taking into consideration: territorial planning, urban planning and development, public works, habitat and housing, construction. It is governed by the regulatory framework in force, aligning its policies and strategies with the main reference documents at the European level. The construction sector is a key sector for investment and economic development, playing an important role in achieving the sustainable development objectives through the impact that the quality of construction has on the quality of life and by ensuring the necessary environment for most human activities. The building permit is the final authority act of the local public administration on the basis of which the execution of construction works is allowed in accordance with the measures provided by law regarding the placement, design, construction, operation and post-use of buildings. Starting from comparative structural analyses on the number of building permits issued by the local public administrations in the South-East Region, the objective of this research has been to obtain a dynamic image, through a quantitative assessment, of the number of building permits issued for residential buildings, highlighting the way in which they directly influence the sustainable development of urban and rural localities in the South-East Region of Romania.
