In order to guarantee the normal operation of marine, an effective fault diagnosis model need to be established to determine the reason causing the fault of marine diesel engine. According to the problem of fault diagnosis of marine diesel engine, by using the methods of kernel fisher discriminant analysis, a method solving fault diagnosis of marine diesel engine is proposed. Firstly, kernel fisher discriminant analysis was done to the historical fault set and the parameters were determined by grid method. In this way, the fault diagnosis model of marine diesel engine was built. Then, this model was used to diagnosis the actual fault of marine diesel engine. The effect of fault diagnosis in fuel injection system of MAN B&W 10L90MC marine diesel engine verified the effectiveness of this method. Therefore, the method proposed by this paper has certain practical significance towards the fault diagnosis of marine diesel engine.

In these years, a problem of air pollution in a global scale becomes a matter of great concern. In such social situation, diesel engines are strongly required to reduce the NOx and particulate emission in the exhaust gas. In this paper, measurements of particulate emissions from a low speed two-stroke marine diesel engine were conducted with several kinds of diesel oil and a heavy fuel oil, to know the characteristics of particulate emissions at the present situation. The effects of engine load and sulfur content of the fuel on the particulate emission have been examined. The particulate emission from the test engine was measured by partial-flow dilution tunnel system, and particulate matter collected on the filter was divided into four components, SOF (soluble organic fraction), sulfate, bound water and dry soot, by Soxlet extraction and ion chromatograph. Results show that the particulate emission from the test engine operated with heavy fuel oil is three times as much as the value with diesel oil and that not only sulfate but SOF and dry soot concentration increase with the increase in fuel sulfur content. It is also found that the conversion rate from sulfur in fuel into sulfate in particulate matter is nearly independent of the sulfur content in the fuel and increases with the increase in the engine load.

In this paper, in order to handle the nonlinear system and the sophisticated disturbance in the marine engine, a finite-time convergence control method is proposed for the diesel engine rotating speed control. First, the mean value model is established for the diesel engine, which can represent response of engine fuel injection to engine speed. Then, in order to deal with parameter perturbation and load disturbance of the marine diesel engine, a finite-time convergence active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is proposed. At the last, simulation experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed controller under the different load disturbances for the 7RT-Flex60C marine diesel engine. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control scheme has better control effect and stronger anti-interference ability than the linear ADRC.
