Abstract We study how the contracting environment affects the quality of trade. A better contracting environment not only induces specialisations in industries intensively using customised inputs, but also causes quality upgrading of domestic varieties and tougher competition in these industries. We incorporate these effects into a Ricardian model with customised input and product quality. Our model predicts that better judicial quality raises a country’s import prices and quality more in contract-intensive products, but has no impacts on its export prices or quality. We empirically confirm these predictions, and find that rising judicial quality is associated with increasing specialisations in contract-intensive industries.

The progress of the Islamic bank cannot be separated from the role of its customers who give trust to the bank to deposit their financial assets. It is a fact many groups of customers decide to be the customers of the Islamic bank because of their religiosity. The other influences factor of a customer’s decision is the quality of the product. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of product quality and level of customers’ religiosity towards customers’ decision whether to keep their funds in Syariah Mandiri Bank, Branch of Purwokerto, or not. The analytical tool used was multiple linear regression analysis, with a sample of 100 customers. The results indicate Y = 5,046 + 0,101X1 + 0,218X2. Based on F, it can be seen that both variables of product quality and religiosity simultanously affect the customers’ decision to keep theirfunds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto. Based on t test, it can be seen that independently, either variable of product quality or variables of religiosityinfluences the customers’ decision to keep their funds in BSM Branch of Purwokerto.

While sustainable tourism and responsible tourism share commonalities of guiding principles, responsible tourism places more emphasis on the behaviors of individual actors. However, little is known about how responsible tourists' behaviors are reconciled by their attitude toward tourism products' economic, cultural, and environmental contribution to a destination. This study explores the role of the tourists' attitude toward mariculture and perception of its benefits within the context of their travel decision-making process. Framed with the theory of planned behavior, this research examines tourists' perception of shellfish mariculture in relationship to their subjective knowledge about mariculture, attitude toward product quality of mariculture, and intention to be involved in marine tourism. This study suggests that the perception of benefits of the product are important considerations when tourists decide their travel activities in coastal destinations.

AbstractThis article presents the results of research carried out based on consumer assessment of the quality of clothing using sensory analysis. The study aimed to determine the role of the brand and information about it in assessing product quality and identify the quality parameters that distinguish brands of a similar quality level. An attempt was also made to classify popular brands of clothing available on the Polish market based on the parameters that determine their quality. A significant impact of the brand name on the sensory assessment of clothes’ quality has been reported. The study has shown that assessors attribute higher rating values to quality features when they know the product brand; moreover, the brand and its information shortens the assessment time, which may suggest that it simplifies and facilitates consumers’ decision-making process. The result analysis has led to the identification of three groups of the factors determining the quality of clothing products: fabric composition, workmanship, and all other variables. It has also led to the separation of three clusters, characterized by different levels of product quality, for which sets of features distinguishing a given category were determined.

The purpose of the article is to generalize the theoretical foundations of the formation of brewing quality in grain and practical experience of barley farms and formulate recommendations on ways to improve the quality of grain products as a key indicator of efficiency of production of malting barley. Research methods. The following methods were used in the research: monographic, scientific generalization (in clarifying the essence of the concept of "quality"), dialectical (in determining the role of quality), expert evaluation (to determine the requirements of statistically unaccounted for barley), system analysis and abstract logical, (to determine the dynamics of the market, price conditions, justification of conclusions and proposals). Research results. The essence of the concept of product quality is revealed and the requirements of national standards for the quality of barley in the direction of use in comparison with European and modern contractual specifications of the malt producer directly in Ukraine are comprehensively covered. The factors influencing the quality of barley are clarified and recommendations how to improve it are adapted to the resource constraints of agricultural enterprises and changes in the external environment. A special role in improving the quality of malting barley is given to the integrated quality management system. The definition of brewing quality of grain as an economic category, which forms its additional value at all stages of the chain of physiological and biochemical transformations from barley to malt and beer is substantiated. We believe that the generalizing measure of economically optimal product quality is the price, which represents the ratio of production costs and sales of products with a set of properties. Scientific novelty. Studies of the role of quality, factors of its formation and impact on economic efficiency of production are based on multi-vector analysis of theoretical foundations on quality issues and practical experience in growing barley for brewing in farms cooperating with malting corporations in Ukraine. Practical significance. Conclusions on the need for unambiguous adequate perception of the role and quality problems of market-forming institutions and recommendations for improving the efficiency of malting barley by improving its quality will help to achieve a balance of industrial and commercial relations between related agricultural enterprises and malt corporations and sustainable development. Abstract Introduction. The question of manufacturing quality products is relevant to any enterprise. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to meet international standards and established requirements. In today's market conditions, the efforts of commodity producers are aimed at meeting the demand of consumers, which, in turn, are guided by the quality characteristics of the product. The purpose of the article is coverage of the main issues of product quality, as one of the factors of increasing and ensuring the competitiveness of modern production. Results. The stages of information support of the decision-making process for the reasonable choice of strategy for managing the quality parameters and image of the enterprise are offered. It is established that the concept of quality should be considered as a balance between the components: formal quality, functional quality and ethical quality. The role of logistical thinking in ensuring the innovative processes implementation in the enterprise activity is presented. The regularity of production and cash flow management is considered based on the information of the monitoring assessment of the market state and development a strategy. The principles of marketing research are being developed taking into account the logistics chain. This leads to an increase in the role of interaction between the units of the enterprise to ensure the stability of the flow processes from the purchase of raw materials to the sale of finished products. The necessity to take into account the fundamental relation between the expectations and the real properties of the object is proved when substitutes are available at the market. The content of risk is defined. An understanding of the specific risk of the company is presented that implements the strategy of improving the quality and competitiveness. A risk group for businesses focused on the production of goods that provide quality of life is considered. Methodical approaches that provide economic stability and rational positioning of the enterprise are considered: the first focused on the production potential formation, the second – on using the diversification principle as a factor of reducing the investment risk of implementing a quality improvement program in the marketing area. Conclusions. The main problem in the quality management system is the establishment of indicators and the sensitivity degree of demand for products and its characteristics. The crucial importance of investment in ensuring an adequate level of product quality necessitates the need to manage projects on the basis of assessing models the capital assets performance by the criteria of minimizing investment risk and maximizing profitability. Key words: product quality, competitiveness, competitive production, enterprise, competitiveness factors.

AbstractInformal contracting institutions constitute an essential part of a country’s overall contracting institution, however, the nascent literature examining the effect of contracting institutions on the quality of products a country produces and exports, have paid a limited attention on the role of informal contracting institutions. We fill this gap in the literature by examining whether higher trust levels, as an informal contracting institution, leads to product-quality upgrading by reducing contractual frictions and opportunistic behaviors. Using industry-level data spanning 1995–2014, we examined this relationship using the generalized difference-in-difference method. We find that contract-intensive industries in trust-intensive societies experience a disproportionally higher increase in the production and export of higher-quality products compared to those industries in low-trusting societies. This result holds after controlling for conventional sources of comparative advantage and formal contracting institution. Hence, the result underscores the importance of informal contracting institutions for improved economic performance and stress the crucial fact that countries with strong and efficient informal institutions can still benefit in market-related activities even in the presence of weak formal institutions.

This article introduces Cognitive Health Counseling 40+ (CH.CO40+), an individualized intervention that is conceptually based on the orchestration model of quality-of-life management ( Martin & Kliegel, 2010 ) and aims at improving satisfaction with cognitive health in adults aged 40 years and older. We describe the theoretically deduced characteristics of CH.CO40+, its target group, its multifactorial nature, its individualization, the application of subjective and objective measures, the role of participants as agents of change, and the rationale for choosing participants’ satisfaction with their cognitive health as main outcome variable. A pilot phase with 15 middle-aged and six older adults suggests that CH.CO40+ attracts, and may be particularly suitable for, subjective memory complainers. Implications of the pilot data for the further development of the intervention are discussed.
