AbstractThe quasifree $$\overrightarrow{\gamma } d\rightarrow \pi ^0n(p)$$ γ → d → π 0 n ( p ) photon beam asymmetry, $$\varSigma $$ Σ , has been measured at photon energies, $$E_\gamma $$ E γ , from 390 to 610 MeV, corresponding to center of mass energy from 1.271 to 1.424 GeV, for the first time. The data were collected in the A2 hall of the MAMI electron beam facility with the Crystal Ball and TAPS calorimeters covering pion center-of-mass angles from 49$$^\circ $$ ∘ to 148$$^\circ $$ ∘ . In this kinematic region, polarization observables are sensitive to contributions from the $$\varDelta (1232)$$ Δ ( 1232 ) and N(1440) resonances. The extracted values of $$\varSigma $$ Σ have been compared to predictions based on partial-wave analyses (PWAs) of the existing pion photoproduction database. Our comparison includes the SAID, MAID and Bonn–Gatchina analyses; while a revised SAID fit, including the new $$\varSigma $$ Σ measurements, has also been performed. In addition, isospin symmetry is examined as a way to predict $$\pi ^0n$$ π 0 n photoproduction observables, based on fits to published data in the channels $$\pi ^0p$$ π 0 p , $$\pi ^+n$$ π + n and $$\pi ^-p$$ π - p .

AbstractThe process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ is studied in the center-of-mass energy range 1.05–2.00 GeV using data with an integrated luminosity of 94.5 $$\hbox {pb}^{-1}$$ pb - 1 collected by the SND detector at the VEPP-2000 $$e^{+}e^{-}$$ e + e - collider. The $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ cross section is measured for the first time. It is shown that the dominant mechanism of this reaction is the transition through the $$\omega \eta $$ ω η intermediate state. The measured cross section of the subprocess $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \omega \eta \rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → ω η → η π 0 γ is consistent with previous measurements in the $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \pi ^+\pi ^-\pi ^0\eta $$ e + e - → π + π - π 0 η mode. It is found, with a significance of $$5.6\sigma $$ 5.6 σ , that the process $$e^+e^-\rightarrow \eta \pi ^0\gamma $$ e + e - → η π 0 γ is not completely described by hadronic vector-pseudoscalar intermediate states. The cross section of this missing contribution, which can originate from radiation processes, e. g. $$e^+e^-\rightarrow a_{0}(1450)\gamma $$ e + e - → a 0 ( 1450 ) γ , is measured. It is found to be 15–20 pb in the wide energy range from 1.3 to 1.9 GeV.

Abstract Using 10.1 × 109J/ψ events produced by the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII) at a center-of-mass energy $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 3.097 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector, we present a search for the rare semi-leptonic decay J/ψ → D−e+νe + c.c. No excess of signal above background is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction ℬ(J/ψ → D−e+νe + c. c.) < 7.1 × 10−8 is obtained at 90% confidence level. This is an improvement of more than two orders of magnitude over the previous best limit.

Abstract Measuring the shape of the Higgs boson potential is of paramount importance, and will be a challenging task at current as well as future colliders. While the expectations for the measurement of the trilinear Higgs self-coupling are rather promising, an accurate measurement of the quartic self-coupling interaction is presently considered extremely challenging even at a future 100 TeV proton-proton collider. In this work we explore the sensitivity that a muon collider with a center of mass energy in the multi-TeV range and luminosities of the order of 1035cm−2s−1, as presently under discussion, might provide, thanks to a rather large three Higgs-boson production and to a limited background. By performing a first and simple analysis, we find a clear indication that a muon collider could provide a determination of the quartic Higgs self-coupling that is significantly better than what is currently considered attainable at other future colliders.

A study of intermittency in hadron-nucleus and the comparison with nucleus-nucleus interactions is presented. The power law behavior of the factorial moments and the variation of intermittency index with the center-of-mass energy are shown. Results favor the formation of quark-gluon plasma in preference to a cascade mechanism.
