This writing is the author’s reflection on one of social phenomena. When a Khatib (preacher), in his preach, quotes al-Nisâ’ [4]: 34, he says that “A wife can be hit if she disobeys or shows ill-conducts (nushûz) to husband’s command”. This statement is attention-grabbing because it is not just him, even the latest scholar still defines ḍaraba as a hitting, so does in the 2020 edition of the Quran translation published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion. This surely confronts with Quran basic principles itself that address fairness, equality, and mercy for the entire universe. Hence, the basic problem in this writing is that how to precisely understand or interpret the word ḍaraba in that verse, thus, the author proposes a mubâdalah (reciprocal) approach. The main argument in this writing is the word ḍaraba in al-Nisâ’ [4]: 34 does not mean a hitting but "going" to ask other people’s help to solve their household problems. In addition, ḍaraba is not just for nushûz wife, but also applied to husband.

AbstractThe turn to the philosophy of scientific realism as a meta-theory for the study of International Relations manifests a reluctance to confront the basic problem of the relationship between philosophy and social scientific inquiry. Despite the realists' rejection of traditional empiricism, and particularly the instrumentalist account of scientific theory, the enthusiasm for realism neglects many of the same problems that, more than a generation earlier, were involved in the social scientific embrace of positivism. One of these problems was a lack of understanding regarding the character and history of the philosophy of natural science and its relationship and applicability to the study of social phenomena. Proponents of realism have also neither adequately articulated and defended realism as a philosophical position, and distinguished it from other perspectives, nor confronted the fundamental challenge to realism and other foundationalist philosophies which has been mounted by the contemporary critique of traditional representational philosophy.

Application of basic principles revolving around the constitutionalism into third wave democracies, produced such phenomenon as constitutions “without constitutionalism”. This paper will revisit and discuss this issue in the context of the Kyrgyz Republic. Main argument and thesis of the paper is following: Where a viable balance of power exists, a constitutional court acquires importance as a key element of that order, thus promoting the constitutionalism. If no such balance exists, the constitutional court will soon become a tool of the more dominant powers and thus lose its relevance for a genuine constitutional order. The abovementioned thesis will be demonstrated by the example of the work of Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic. Mainly it first aims at providing a proper foundation and basic understanding of constitutionalism, further revisiting this concept in the context of Former Soviet Union and finally will discuss the development of constitutionalism in Kyrgyzstan along with challenges faced by the court.

In this paper the medieval period is used as a prism to analyze and contextualize the intersection of mutual surveillance, corporate capitalism and information control. It is claimed that the interplay between big tech companies, nation states’ battle for control and citizens’ participatory surveillance, for instance exercised through social media, resembles medieval principles of feudalism and tight social control. As such, this is basically a paper discussing power related to the Internet, as it turns 50 years. The main argument is that apparently distinct social phenomena related to the dominance of Internet technologies share the same logics of control, surveillance and power as the feudalism that dominated medieval society. The states and big corporations both compete and cooperate, just like the states and the church in Middle Ages.

Abstract I think I am in the same line with the majority of finance and especially tax specialists in arguing that taxation is an economic and social phenomenon, i.e. a chain of actions and deeds which take place in time and space. The main argument in considering taxation in a broader sense, as an economic and social phenomenon, is that taxation should ensure the achievement of the economic and social objectives of the state. This phenomenon is caused by a complex of factors that are general and perpetual and whose actions breed measurable consequences. Like any economic and social phenomenon, taxation is characterized by generating causes, specific to the time and space framework of the event, vectors of influence of the intensity of the action (accelerators or reducers) and noticeable results (effects) on the surface of the economic reality. The economic and social causes of the phenomenon of taxation are not usually measurable given the continuous interaction of the vectors of influence, but the effects are real, reliable and quantifiable. Therefore, it is necessary to undertake in-depth studies in order to understand the lesser known side of the elements that trigger the emergence and development of the economic and social phenomena.

The paper analyses the prospects for sociological metatheorising with regard to social mechanisms and mechanism-based explanations of social reality. The author has done a critical review of the most important works concerning a mechanism-based approach to social phenomena. The following points have been brought into focus: the basic principles of social mechanisms, examples of their use in sociological theories and prospects for their integration into analytical sociology. As analytical constructs, social mechanisms help to draw hypothetical connections between observable events. However, due to multiple definitions of social mechanisms it seems problematic to combine different interpretations of the mechanism-based approach in order to develop a common metatheory. Particular attention is given to J. Coleman’s mechanistic scheme of changes at the macro-level and to the mechanisms of democratisation in Ch. Tilly’s interpretation.

This article presents some streamlined and intentionally oversimplified ideas about educating future communication disorders professionals to use some of the most basic principles of evidence-based practice. Working from a popular five-step approach, modifications are suggested that may make the ideas more accessible, and therefore more useful, for university faculty, other supervisors, and future professionals in speech-language pathology, audiology, and related fields.
